Riders are also losing some important talent. Over spending on players won't help replace that talent lost. Look at what happened with the Lions in 2019 -2021.

Don't think the riders will run short of money. as mentioned on previous thread with this being a grey cup in Sask. they will likely spend over the cap to get her done. I expect them to take a run at Harris and Richardson.

Well, $260k for the Duke kinda blew that idea...

When has any team over spent the SMS in order to win a Grey Cup and how did that work out for them? Answer: IIRC it's never happened. Funny how some posters think we've got little money left against our SMS but the Riders can spend $260K on a player with no problem.

We'll see how many of their remaining free agents they can bring back. It's a big list of talent that will be expensive: Gainey, Purefoy to name a couple of expensive players.

They have lots of cash.

Do they?  With the Regina Tax and having to over pay for guys like Fajardo and Duke they need to cut back somewhere.  Although that o-line is probably pretty cheap seeing how crappy they are.  They are likely going cheap and inexperienced in the d backfield as well.  Maybe they take a run at Harris , he will get stuffed like a twice baked potato all season long behind that o-line though.

Was reported earlier that it's likely Gainey won't be resigned

Gainey was not offered a contract and is most likely going back to the Elks.

Or that Hangry guy who was likely their best player on the back end.  They will get lit up like a 99 year old?s birthday cake.  Would not surprise me to see the Riders in 4th or lower this season in the West.

2013 Riders went over the cap iirc.

Edmonton Elks have signed receiver Derel Walker to a one-year contract extension for the 2022 season.

Assuming Lawler is gone, finding a top receiver to replace him is starting to look daunting.  Derel Walker, Duke, Begelton, Lucky, Burnham, Dunbar, Weineke, Acklin, Shaq Evans all look to be off the table.

Assuming we don?t want a fading star like Banks, it is starting to look like Ambles, Ricky Collins, Josh Huff and Ellington are the remaining pool.

Yes but not by much which was suggested by some media to spend lots and lots and lots to win the Grey Cup.

I think you over estimate the amount of years that teams have paid any attention to the cap at all. It?s a relatively new concept.

Since the SMS has been in the CFL only a couple of teams have gone over. Nobody has lost a draft choice for going over by $100K. I don't think anybody has gone over by more than $15K? Managing a $5.2M SMS is difficult.

When a key player has an early signing bonus and than injured in TC that is against the SMS and could be $100K or more. It's happened a few times to QB's for example.

Or deciding to take a player like A. Harris off the 6 game early and end up with salary against the SMS.

Bombers won the Grey Cup twice. Did they go over in either year?
