Looks like both #Stampeders LB Darnell Sankey & #AlsMtl QB Matthew Shiltz will not sign extensions with their current teams ahead of the start of free agency on Feb 9. Both players getting plenty of early interest. Sankey led @cfl
in tackles last season with 98. @CFLonTSN

Money is clearly important to a player and should be.  It will be interesting to see if Kenny Lawler takes BC's offer considering he seemed to be very offended that he was initially cut by BC and felt disrespected.  It's a dynamic that is interesting to say the least.  Would he take a lesser offer from the Bombers if it was reasonably close?  Would the Bombers be prepared to make an offer "reasonably close"?

That has to be nearly 100k more than the Bombers' offer.

B.C. Lions have submitted a big offer for CFL all-star receiver Kenny Lawler.

Per sources, the Leos have tabled a contract proposal that would pay the three-down league's reigning receiving yards leader in the $250,000 range for the 2022 season.

If accepted, it would make Lawler the CFL's highest-paid non-quarterback.

Different management and situation when Lawler was released by BC.

Most players will follow the money due to short careers.

That has to be completely wrong... I have no doubt that the Bombers are in the $200k range to re-sign their best WR.  Suggesting they'd lowball him that much is insulting to both Lawler AND Walters...

Alos make him the highest paid BC Lion... their QB won't even be in the top 10...

Their rookie Canadian QB is making 80K which gives BC plenty of cap space to maneuver.   Burnham makes 165K and Whitehead is at 200K.    It's highly unlikely he will resign with us when that kind of money is being offered.    He was originally cut loose by the Lions....however under a different coach and GM at the time.
It's ironic that we now have the best QB in the league who likely will have new receivers to get acquainted with whereas BC is betting their wad on Rourke surrounded with 3 top receivers....however his NFL aspirations are still unresolved as we speak.    It's putting us in a bind really....

Not even 24 hours into the tampering period and we are seeing some big names potentially moving ahead of free agency Feb 8. #CFLFA

We've asked other players to sign team friendly deals - so it honestly depends what their salary cap allotment is for their receiving core. It's not insulting; it's an expression of their stated team-building strategy to build from the lines out.

Walters has expressed that that's an area where we're going to have to save some cap space and it seems like we've delayed signing any of our receivers (I have no doubt that both Bailey and Adams would be back if we offered them fair deals, so what's the hold up?).

I expected us to offer Lawler a 165-185 contract, prepared to let him walk if he wanted to chase a high value deal.

The Lions blew high value out of the water.

We probably won't be at $250,000 but I would guess we'd be in the low $200,000s with the sales pitch of playoff money, great culture and the league's best QB. Both will be competitive offers for sure.

I sure hope not, in the grand scheme of things Lawler as a singular receiver is not that important, the Bomber receivers as a group are strong enough to carry on with an adequate and affordable replacement. Caveat, it's critical that they re-sign Adams and Bailey now.

Kenny be gone.
