Blue Bombers add Draft selections to roster

WINNIPEG, MB., April 26, 2021 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed 2020 CFL Draft selection Brendan O'Leary-Orange (receiver), and 2021 Global Draft selection Les Maruo (linebacker).

O'Leary-Orange (6-4, 210, Nevada, in Toronto, ON) was taken in the fourth round, 37th overall, in the 2020 CFL Draft. He saw playing time in only six games at Nevada in 2019 due to injury, making five receptions for 85 yards. He played in 11 games in 2018, making seven starts and recorded 14 receptions for 214 yards and tied his career-high four scores. He was a member of Nevada's 2018 Arizona Bowl victory team. O'Leary-Orange played in 11 of Nevada's 12 games in his sophomore year, making nine starts and producing single-season career highs in all categories, making a name for himself by ranking third on the team with 39 receptions and 618 receiving yards.

Maruo (6-0, 230, Feb. 14, 1996 in Yokkaichi, Japan) grew up in Wichita, KS after his family moved to the United States when he was nine years old. He played his college ball at the University of Texas-San Antonio, graduating in 2018 with a degree in exercise science. He started all 12 games for the Roadrunners in his senior season, posting 86 tackles (including 49 solos), 4.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, one interception and one pass knockdown. After finishing at UTSA, Maruo spent two years playing in Japan?s X League with the Asahi Challengers. He tested well at the CFL's Global Combine, finishing with 28 reps in the bench press and running a 4.77 40.

Totally agree. Considering our roster I'd expect both to make the AR in 2021. Canadian depth is needed at receiver and Orange should be in the mix to fill that role.

Muruo sounds like a player that could be good on ST's and get some defensive reps as the season progresses. He seems to be a player that is willing to bring violence ( legal ) to the field and he's got some speed.

We only have 25 Canadian players on the roster at the moment. That includes some 2020 draft choices and even some 2019 draft choices IIRC. About 8 of these players have never suited up for a CFL game.

The TC competition to make the AR is going to be fierce after we add the new 2021 draft choices.

All that said between the needs to fill the PR and possible IR due to injuries we're not deep in bodies.

Going to see some new faces on the AR that's for sure.

EDIT: Lokombo is beginning to look like a Bomber choice by many if he's still available.
