It's been so long.

Which. Grey cup starters did we lose?
I saw a Lawler playing in the Spring League.  Do we still gave himself?

That might be a different Lawler as he re-signed with the Bombers.

We lost a bunch of back up players as well besides those listed above. Streveler and Medlock fall into important losses. Whitehead & Latour weren't on Grey Cup game day roster.

Overall 17 players from 2019 are no longer with the team that I can count: Hecht, D.Jones, Jones ( LB ), Exume, Miles, Fenner, Petermann, Rempel and Rush were on the game day roster.

We also lost PLAP who in my mind is the biggest loss of all.

Blue Bombers Transactions - June 15, 2021

WINNIPEG, MB., June 15, 2021 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the following roster transactions:

Added to roster:

Global (Great Britain) offensive lineman Tomoya Machino
American receiver Kelvin McKnight (Samford)

Regarding McKnight:

    Renowned for his route running.
    Cat quick out of breaks.
    Strong body awareness.
    Can make sideline catches.
Will make catches outside his frame.
Concentration to make catches in traffic.
    Faster in pads than shorts.
    Multiple gears.
    Experienced punt returner.

The Bad:

Size. He's 5'8"  He wouldn't be the 1st smaller receiver to make a CFL team and has many " good " qualities.

Just my opinion but I think we might see his chances more as a returner / DI than real competition to start.

There are so many Import receivers signed including nearly all from our 2019 roster. Only Whitehead left in free agency.

Where any of them will fall with chances in replacing Bailey, Nelson or Grant is too early to tell.

We'll have to see how much Buck Pierce changes the offense. Having had both coaches at the same time was valuable. So it will be a loss but how much is a TBD situation.

Medlock wasn't re-signed in free agency. It's possible he could still be re-signed but I'm not expecting that to happen. Two reasons primarily: SMS and  Canadian draft choice Liegghio. Medlock may have decided to retire. At the moment he hasn't be signed anywhere else.

Nevis went to Toronto in free agency. No idea whether we tried to retain him but SMS might have also been a factor with him?

I see a rash of transactions across the CFL in the last days after the August 5th confirmation. That is resulting in the announcement of some players being released, retiring and a few new signings.

Teams are likely checking with players to see what their status will be. As I mentioned yesterday we have a significant number of rookies signed in 2020 that haven't yet been extended into 2022. I could envision a few to have left football after not being able to play in 2020.

Not expecting any " real " big surprises though.

He is a big loss to be sure, however, Buck mentored under him for many years so how big a loss PLAP is will depend on how good a grasshopper Buck was.

I guess we'll know soon enough but like I said I don't think so. He's certainly capable of playing and being in the top 2 kickers.

So many tough factors for 2021. SMS reduction effort, roster size reduction further complicates the ratio considerations. I don't know if Liegghio is game ready for the CFL yet but he's thought to be a gem.

It may be possible that this was the year Medlock decided to retire?
