At this point, I want them to re-sign Petermann, Janarion Grant, and a long snapper.  Anything else is gravy.

The biggest question mark will be the secondary, but with Sayles and Rose gone, we knew that would be the case.  Brandon Alexander, Nick Taylor, Mercy Maston, Josh Johnson that looks like a decent foundation, but it will take some time to come together.

Back up QB definitely makes me nervous.

You're missing the point but that's no surprise.  Bombers struggled for many seasons trying to find good receivers. In 2019 we were still not near the top group in the CFL. We could be starting from scratch if we lose the pending free agents.

BTW. We just traded Speller to Toronto to move up slightly in the 2021 draft by 4 positions. From 52 to 48th. That means 12 players gone from 2019 roster and 14 open potential free agents.  If you don't consider that a significant change, then what does?

The Canadian kicker may turn out to be the best kicker in the CFL. Medlock may re-sign. Neither possibility is certain.

3 or 4 QB's on the roster? Don't even go there. Our starter missed 15 games and McGuire has 3 pass attempts in the CFL. I'm not quite ready to anoint him as anything past the most recent survivor.

Optimism is great but it also requires a reality check.

At this point of the season, we are in much better shape than most teams, and no doubt Mr. Walters has a plan... changeover is expected every year, and in this year where we have skipped a season and are spending to the bottom of the cap, you have to expect a lot of change.  I think Walters has navigated these uncertain waters exceptionally well...

We're in better shape than most teams and the core group is solid. Depth is currently an issue. Having 40 rookies for TC is nothing new but we won't know whether we resolved several issues.

It's going to be a new team that's for sure.

Interesting. Some of those rookies had potential but whether they get re-signed is not certain. I'd like Grant and Lawler back which might be more probable but even that is a TBD.

Rookies signed for TC often don't actually make it to TC and get released as new prospects are found.

I'd add Latour ( LS ) and Whitehead to my wish list. I suppose I could / would add W. Rose and Kongbo who   are full free agents as opposed to potential free agents.

Aside from the Speller trade the Bombers have been quiet for about 10 days.  I keep expecting some new announcements.

BLUE BOMBERS ADD TWO DEFENSIVE BACKS ROSTER

WINNIPEG, MB., January 30, 2021 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American defensive backs Jeremiah Johnson and Marwin Evans.

Johnson (6-1, 190, Concord University; DOB: April 15, 1994 in Baltimore, MD) joins the Bombers after last playing with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL. In five games with Houston, Johnson had one interception, returning it 64 yards, and added 9.5 tackles.

During his days at Concordia University, Johnson was named to the First Team All-Mountain East Conference for four consecutive seasons (2014-17), the first to accomplish that feat in the program's history. He was also twice voted an All-American by the Don Hansen Football Gazette. Johnson finished his college career ranking fifth in school history in interceptions with 11 and third in pass break-ups with 36.

After going undrafted in 2018, he signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Johnson also spent time with the Salt Lake Stallions of the Alliance of American Football in 2019.

Evans (5-11, 211, Utah State; DOB: April 10, 1993 in Milwaukee, WI.) comes to the Bombers with 32 games of NFL experience, including one start, with the Green Bay Packers over the 2016-17 seasons.

After being released by the Packers in 2018, Evans was signed to the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad in 2019. He was drafted by the Dallas Renegades in the 2020 XFL Supplemental Draft, but did not see any action before the league folded in April of that year.

Evans spent two seasons at Utah State after playing one year at Highland Community College in Kansas and his freshman year at Rochester Community College in Minnesota. During his senior year at Utah State, Evans started 13 games and finished with 73 tackles, two forced fumbles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks and five pass break-ups and a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Ten CFL players with roster bonuses scheduled for February 1
By John Hodge - January 30, 2021

LB Micah Awe, Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Awe's bonus is relatively small - $5,000 - but the Bombers are still trying to restructure his contract, per source. Winnipeg already has incumbent starters Adam Bighill and Kyrie Wilson under contract for 2021, so Awe figures to serve in a depth/special teams role.

Did Kongbo get cut and waive out from the NFL this past season? Believe he signed with the Niners initially. He'd be a great Canuck to bring back in on the D Line.

It's been about 2 weeks since the Bombers signed any of our potential free agents. Is this a sign of either moving on or players wanting to test free agency?

Count me as surprised. All 3 of our LS's are among that group. 8 Canadians are on the list. Medlock?
