BLUE BOMBERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH DEFENSIVE END JACKSON JEFFCOAT ON A ONE-YEAR EXTENSION

WINNIPEG, MB., January 08, 2021 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms with American defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat on a one-year contract extension. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February.

Jeffcoat (6-3, 253, Texas; born: December 29, 1991 in Dallas, TX) returns to the Blue Bombers for a fourth season after initially joining the team in 2017. Jeffcoat appeared in 12 regular season games in 2019 as an injury cost him a third of the campaign. He had five sacks, 23 tackles and two forced fumbles in those 12 games and then capped his season with some superb work in the playoff run to the Grey Cup championship.

In three playoff games, Jeffcoat was a difference maker especially in the Grey Cup where he registered four tackles, a tackle for a loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. In 40 games over his three seasons in Winnipeg, Jeffcoat has 80 tackles, 17 sacks, five forced fumbles and an interception.

The son of Dallas Cowboys/Buffalo Bills great Jim Jeffcoat, Jackson played his college ball at Texas and in his 2013 senior season he was a Consensus All-American, the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Big 12. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and then joined the Washington Football Team. He appeared in nine games with Washington, making one start over the 2014-15 season and finished with one sack, an interception and four tackles. He spent time with the Cleveland Browns in 2016 before coming to the Bombers a year later.

I hate one year contracts. I understand why they are happening more this year then any other, but they still suck.

Yeah, out of 13 re-signings only Demski has signed for 2 years.

When are they going to actually update the roster on CFL.CA? It's hard to see exactly where we are with all the transactions going on across the CFL.

The tempo of re-signing or announcing re-signings about potential free agents is quickly increasing.

Good work Walters.  That said I'm waiting to hear about re-signings on a few specific players that IMO are absolute key players.

Alexander, Jeffcoat,, Medlock, Neufeld, and Harris.

EDIT: Jeffcoat re-signed today along with Gray, Gauthier and Antigha.

The team could also update their website with the current roster. It's so outdated as it stands.

Also the team isn't announcing all their transactions (only the re-signings).

Since mid-December the team has released 6 rookies, signed 8 American rookies, signed 4 draft picks and 2 National rookies.

QUARTERBACK ZACH COLLAROS AGREES TO RESTRUCTURED CONTRACT FOR 2021

WINNIPEG, MB., January 09, 2021  -  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms with quarterback Zach Collaros on a restructured contract.

Signed to a two-year extension in late January a year ago, Collaros agreed to this restructuring as part of his commitment to the Bombers for the 2021 season.

Collaros (6-0, 219, Cincinnati; born: August 27, 1988 in Stuebenville, OH) was acquired by the Bombers in a deal with the Toronto Argonauts at the Canadian Football League trade deadline on October 9, 2019. The Bombers acquired Collaros and a fifth-round selection in the 2020 CFL Draft (used to select kicker Marc Liegghio) for first and third-round picks in the same draft.

The veteran quarterback capped a tumultuous 2019 season with a storybook ending in Winnipeg, helping lead the Bombers to the Grey Cup championship. He started four games in blue and gold - one regular season contest and three in the playoffs - to post a perfect 4-0 record behind centre.

In his four games as a Bomber, he completed 67 of 97 pass attempts (69.1 percent) for 851 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He had opened the 2019 season as the starting quarterback of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, but was injured in the first game and was later traded to Toronto for a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2020. He did not see any action with the Argonauts before being traded to Winnipeg.

In 91 career regular season games with Toronto (2012-13) Hamilton (2014-17), Saskatchewan (2018-19) and Winnipeg (2019), Collaros has posted a 35-32 won-lost record as a starting quarterback. He ranks 43rd on the CFL's all-time passing yardage list with 16,979 yards with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 92:52. He was twice named the Tiger-Cats Most Outstanding Player (2014, 2015).

I was under the impression Josh Johnson retired?  The new list above of potential free agents is down to 20 and seems close to currently accurate. Its a bit different than the CFL.CA list which includes Lawler and Grant.

I was under the impression Josh Johnson retired?  The new list above of potential free agents is down to 20 and seems close to currently accurate. Its a bit different than the CFL.CA list which includes Lawler and Grant.

Ed Tait mixed up Josh with Jovon Johnson (who signed a one day contract then retired).

Tait later updated his article to indicate Josh has not retired.

In any case we're quickly reducing the number of potential free agents. Josh Johnson had signed a 1 year deal to play in 2020. I suppose he may do the same for 2021.

I'm expecting about 7 of the potential free agents not to return or be offered new deals. I don't expect to lose anybody we want to keep. Those are a bit of conflicting feeling I have at the moment.

Mostly it will just be a personal mental score I'll be watching to see how close my guesses turn out.

Walters has been doing a very good job with what has been done so far.
