Now of course that was pre-ACL injury but luckily he has played a ton since then in terms of training camps and AAF

BOMBERS SIGN RECEIVER DARVIN ADAMS TO A THREE-YEAR EXTENSION

WINNIPEG, MB., February 9, 2020 -  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the signing of wide receiver Darvin Adams to a three-year contract extension.

Adams (6-2, 201, Auburn) had been scheduled to become a free agent on February 11, but is now locked up through the 2022 Canadian Football League season. The 2020 campaign will mark the 30-year-old's sixth with the Blue Bombers since joining the club in 2015 after two years with the Toronto Argonauts.

An injury limited Adams to 13 games in 2019 and he finished the year with 47 catches for 549 yards and five touchdowns, ending a streak of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2017 and 2018.

The veteran receiver was especially effective in the Bombers' push to a championship, making some critical catches in three playoff games leading up to and including the Grey Cup. Adams had six catches for 105 yards and a 71-yard touchdown in the Western Semi-Final win over the Calgary Stampeders and a week later, pulled in eight catches for 93 yards in the Western Final victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He then had three receptions for 11 yards in the Grey Cup decision over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and even completed a 13-yard pass to quarterback Chris Streveler.

He has 296 receptions for 4,226 yards as a Bomber, ranking him just outside the franchise's Top 10 in both categories. He also has 34 touchdowns as a Bomber.

Adams is a two-time West Division All-Star (2017, 2018) and was a CFL Players Association All-Star in 2017.

As I wrote in my #Bombers FA primer, Adams was looking for a raise and there was some concern by the Bombers that he could get plucked by Paul LaPolice in Ottawa. Adams  new deal comes in around $140,000 per season to stay with the Blue and Gold. #wfp

Status quo - Darvin Adam's 2020 salary comes in precisely where it has been the past two seasons. #Bombers

This is a fair deal.  In a year when the min salary is getting a major bump, holding onto your contract value is a good thing.  There were about 5 WRs capable of 1000 yds ready to hit free agency, so I'm not sure Adams could have done much better given his 2019 stats.

I guess this means the Bombers will not be going after any other receiver's in FA and will use that money to sign Jefferson.

Wow, I'm surprised Darvin has been playing for so little and has decided not to ask for more now, I would have pegged him around $175,000 to re-sign.  Pretty good deal considering he has been the Bombers #1 receiver since arriving in 2015 but I would surprised if he was still in their plans 3 years from now.

I think the contrary, they have money in their receiver budget to pursue a potential #1 receiver, shifting Darvin down to #2.

We have a relatively cheap receiving corps even with Adams.

Would the Bombers get value from signing a FA receiver?

I'd rather the Bombers to now focus their attention on the Dline and to also leave some money for players returning from the NFL in September.

I could not disagree. Unless we somehow get good value on a weapon.

I think Lawler is our new #1.

The Bombers are spreading out their talent at receiver in a move to keep that corps cheap and put our money in other positions. We aren't a Khari-to-Milt passing team, we are hedging our talent placement, and are fleshing out the receivers with both Nats and ELC Ints, with Darvin being that steady vet presence who can still make the miracle catch and block very well the rest of the time.

I think 140K is perfect for him in the role we give him, especially since this could very well be his final contract.
