I think so too. Even our recruitment thus far has been pretty DE heavy. I think McAlister is someone the Bombers really wanted to keep last year but we were too deep. This year he will be in the mix and quite likely that Roh is out.

I think they are also working from the assumption that Jefferson won't be back.  They are definitely bringing in a lot of DE's and a lot of them are 6'4" to 6'6"

These guys were actually re-signed on Nov 27th:

BOMBERS ADD THREE TO ROSTER

WINNIPEG, MB., January 22, 2020 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has added running back Jordan Robinson and defensive ends David Kenney and Meffy Koloamatangi. All three players are American and finished the 2019 season on the club's practice roster.

Robinson (5-11, 185, Sacramento State, April 28, 1995, Torrance, CA) finished the 2019 season on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers practice roster. He played 10 games for the Eskimos finishing with 670 kickoff return yards. Robinson played four seasons at Sacramento State collecting a total of 2,823 rushing yards, the fourth-highest in Sacramento State history.

Kenney (6-2, 250, Illinois State, February 6, 1995, Indianapolis, IN) signed as a tryout player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past summer but was released on August 30, 2019. He finished the 2019 season on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers practice roster. Kenny played in seven games on the ISU roster and was credited with 11 tackles.

Koloamatangi (6-5, 240, Hawaii University, June 24, 1995, East Palo Alto, CA) played five games with the BC Lions this past season collecting three special teams tackles. Koloamatangi was named to the 2017 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List prior to the start of the season, finishing with 31 tackles, 6 tackles-for-loss and six quarterback hurries. He finished the 2019 season on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers practice roster.

I wouldn't be talking too much if I were Jones. He's a fringe CFLer really. If the Bombers offer him a contract he'd be wise to sign on the dotted line.

Agreed. He offers good value for his work as an STer and capable-ish backup S. I understand wanting to get a fair deal, but in this business a player like him is replaced in a snap, which could easily include this year's draft. Walters is the best ST/depth drafter in the league and finds new surprises in the "fringe" area every single year.

BLUE BOMBERS RE-SIGN PENDING FREE AGENT RECEIVER/RETURNER CHARLES NELSON

WINNIPEG, MB., January 23, 2020 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed pending free agent receiver/returner Charles Nelson to a two-year extension.

Nelson (5-8, 175, Oregon, October 28, 1995, Daytona Beach, FL) has spent parts of the past two seasons with Winnipeg. He's played in five games, including four in 2019, before suffering a season ending injury. Last season, Nelson recorded 19 punt returns for 231 yards (10.3 average), and returned ten kickoffs for 202 yards.

Nelson played four seasons for the Oregon Ducks, catching 124 passes for 1,555 yards and 14 touchdowns. Nelson also had 2,424 kick return yards and two kick return touchdowns during his time at Oregon. In 2014, Nelson received the Gordon E. Wilson Award for being Oregon's top special teams standout and was given 1st-Team Pac-12 All-Conference honours in 2015.

Signed this week and traded almost immediately. I wonder who we added from their neg list?

More interestingly they re-signed Nelson to a 2 year deal. Didn't really see that coming. Not because he doesn't have talent but it's similar to other players we have.

The receiver group is a bit crowded at the moment.

Kinda perplexing but interesting nonetheless. Guess they really liked Nelson before his injury. This doesn't exactly bode well for Whitehead, who brings a similar skill set to the table.

Have to wonder if there is a difference of opinion about Nelson between Buck and Lapo...

Ahhh.....let them compete but at the end of the day they only have room for 2 of these small shifty clones.

They signed him when Lapo was here and signed him again with Lapo gone.

Sounds like a shared opinion if you ask me.

Nelson hung around, but wasn't used.  You don't re-sign a guy if you aren't going to use him...
