Not sure if starting is as much a concern as paycheck... all things being even close to equal, I'm thinking he stays, even at a lower contract...  even league min is $70k, for 6 months work... that's like making $35/hr for the year, or $70/hour for the season... nothing to sneeze at in a 2 income family in Winnipeg...

You think a pro football player who could likely start elsewhere would be complacent making league min just because his wife has a job and they make alright money while living in Winnipeg for a few years?

What was all this from you in years previous about how all players want to start and are hungry to get in and win, etc, etc?

The thing with Medlock is his versatility and overall competence as a FG kicker, punter and KO specialist.   Medlock is to kicking as Van Gogh is to painting....he's really a kicking artist. I mean he made the top 10 highlight reel as a punter with that hustle and heads up play he made to direct the ball out of bounds resulting in a TD producing turnover at a key point in the game.   Also he's a master at placing the ball when he punts and he made 21 of our 33 points in the GC game.    He's worth the money we pay him as an American player.    I'm hoping we re-sign him!!

Not to nit-pick, but Van Gogh, while talented, was just a painter.  You would have been better using Michelangelo or Picasso... supremely talented in multiple mediums... Wink

Not the point.  "All else being equal".. if he's offered an opportunity to start at $80k, or backup here at $70k...  he'd not likely to get offers of $100k or more... especially with the league min going to $70 (making the have / have not gap even bigger).  He;s a solid guy, and good in the room, but I can't see a team breaking the bank over him.

Yeah, I want guys who want to play, and win.  And there is no doubting Roh's heart that way.  He will give 111% every day, for sure.  I just think it would take a hefty difference for him to sacrifice what he's built here and uproot and go...  while this isn't his home town originally, I can see the "home town discount" in this situation,

May be a moot point...If we lose Willie then Roh...whatever he is gonna be paid, or agrees to will get a full serving of reps, and we will get good production outta him...not Willie production and influence on a game, but way just as good, if not better than a lot of the other DE's in the league

Well if he's an experienced, proven DE and league min is 70k and another team is vying for him to start, they are going to offer him more than 10k over league min, lol.

But yes, in a very odd and balk-able scenario where a team wants an FA to come over there and start for them but offers them peanuts, yes, he would tell them to suck rocks.

My point was, superstars will still get $150-$200k in the new SMS, but the number of $100k-$130K guys will probably drop.  Meaning vets who are borderline starters could be getting min wage deals... which is better than no deal at all...  it is going to be a buyers market, not by choice, but by necessity.

Disagree.

How the new SMS structure plays out in the open market remains to be seen, but I can't see vets playing for min. That's insulting.

It is more likely that the $100k guys stay stagnant, and the top rate for QBs comes back to the $550k - $600k range.  Deals like Jefferson's at 210k will be coming in at 200k or 195k.

The $100k guys are generally starters, and you have to keep a degree of separation between starters and the minimum, or the wage structure loses its integrity.

Do you have link for this info? That's the way I thought it worked, but couldn't find a link in the 1 minute I took googling.

I actually got the info from an article with Rick Campbell when he was asked about getting his global player some time when the season was lost. I'll find it and post the link.

I thought maybe Dondre Wright could replace Jeff Hecht on the roster, but i guess not.

When min was $40k, sure.  But it is $70k, more than most people make, above the average, for a part time gig.  There are vets on PR's, making peanuts, trying to get back into the league.  There are many fringe players who would love to have a job, and would gladly take min.   Average SMS salary is probably about $110k, for every player making $200k, you have to have 3 players making $70K.  For every QB making $450k, you need to have 9 players making $70k.  You only have so many ELC's... the rest will be vets...

When we went with Alexander over him I kind of figured he was not in the plans. I'm not sure why he was not given the chance but obviously he didn't impress in some way or another.
