Once the QB situation is solidified we will be a lot more comfortable with 2020...

CFL.CA shows Medlock deleted then added to the active roster. I take that to mean we gave him a revised contract or agreed to excercise the option year?

I'm still waiting for coaching announcements...if I remember correctly, either O'Shea or Walters said no quarterback decisions would be made until the coaching staff had been signed and sorted out.  At this rate, everyone will go to free agency because we have no OC to yay or nay any decisions  Sad

We still have 5 weeks until FA and I'm sure some people haven't returned from holidays. No need to panic yet.

Blue Bombers release defensive back Marcus Sayles to pursue NFL opportunities

WINNIPEG, MB., January 1, 2020 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has released international defensive back Marcus Sayles in order for him to further pursue NFL opportunities.

Darrin Bauming    @DarrinBauming
#Bombers have released All-Star defensive back Marcus Sayles so he can sign with the NFL for a third time in his pro career.

Just got off the phone with former #Bombers boundary halfback Marcus Sayles, who will officially put ink to paper on a new contract with the Minnesota Vikings tomorrow. Bonus money included.

Sayles says the city of Winnipeg, fan base, and #Bombers organization truly felt like family, and Mike O'Shea wanted him to ensure he took full advantage of his NFL opportunities. Winnipeg remains "option 1" if he returns to play in the CFL.

Sayles also shared about the tremendous influence #Bombers DB coach @26reasons had on him in his two years in Winnipeg.

Since Jordan Younger's arrival, joining O'Shea's staff in 2018, Winnipeg's defensive backfield has made noticeable strides.

I'm a little surprised how quiet the team has been regarding re-signing our potential free agents.

We need to whittle that down a bit for mid February. Time to start?

I'm not. Most teams are quiet as of now. Keep in mind we already re-upped Hardrick, Wolitarsky, Augustine, Neufeld and Maston. Between holidays, this CBA stuff, NFL workouts, its tough right now. Plus teams gotta figure out their cap.

Other teams are re-signing players. In any case figuring out the SMS is determined in large part by what you spend in re-signing your players. It's the starting point.

I would expect that before the end of December they decided who they wanted back and projected salary.

They may have gone as far as looking at the CFL free agency list to create Plan B options with priorities and rankings.

Every time you re-sign one of your own it varies the plan. If you know S. Bryant doesn't want to return to look to see what the options are etc and what impact it would have across the roster SMS.

BTW: In 2019 we signed 6 veterans in the week of Jan 3 - Jan 8 just as a reference. All of the other things going on at the moment were also going on last year early in the year.

I checked the CFL FA tracker this morning and not a really lot is happening right now. Winnipeg and Calgary seem to be doing a lot more business then the other teams in the league.

I understand that most of the bomber management and coaching staff shut operation down from Dec23 - Jan 6th. to spend some well deserved time with there families and go on a hot holiday. This was also season for the bombers then the past seasons.
