Nice to see this finally happening. Teams like Edmonton, Vegas, and Florida will longer be able to cheat.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Carey price traded. Montreal now $4.5M under salary cap.

Per Seravalli on Twitter: Sources say Minnesota Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov's camp turned down an extension offer believed to be 8-years, $128 million in a meeting on Tuesday in Minnesota that would have made him the highest-paid player in NHL history in both AAV ($16 million) and total dollars.

How absurd. LOL

Let him go back to Russia. I am sure Putin will have in the army in about a week.

I just love how this blew up in the Wild's face after Leipold and Guerin both claimed Kaprizov would imminently re-sign the biggest contract in NHL history. A great look for that franchise.

Kap is a very good "Star" performer who just might be sporting a very strong ego that has ignored "Team concept"
It's correct to negotiate for the betterment of oneself but
Wild fans, players, NHL fans and league organizations must all be cringing for many different reasons after this bit of news.

This really makes me wonder how the Connor negotiations are going...

If we are getting guys turning down $16mil a year for 8 years, what is the thinking?

For long term deals, yes, the back end is going to be a better deal than year one, but you trade that off for the fact you get paid whether you play or not.  If you suddenly suck, or get injured, that deal stays in place forever. At worst, you get a buyout that is still far too much money for what you are worth if someone is buying you out.

Is he looking for a shorter deal, so as to not screw himself out of more in year 6,7,8?

Look at Helly and Scheiff... their deals are going to be absolute bargains by the end.

So where does Connor land?  $12mil for 8?
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

Conor most likely goes to Detroit

Has to be a HUGE return for Chevy to trade him... what does Detroit have that could justify it?

Who says he has to trade, can sign after next season as he will be a UFA.  Michigan is his home.

If he's going to walk, you HAVE to trade him asap.  If the contract talks are not going well, Chevy needs to trade him now and get a huge return for him.

The longer they wait, the more your scenario is likely, and losing Connor without getting anything in return would be a disaster.

If Connor really wants to go to Detroit, and if we knew that was a possibility, we should have traded him last year and kept Fly.
