Edmonton Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse will have a hearing with the league's department of player safety on Tuesday night for cross-checking Los Angeles Kings forward Quinton Byfield.

Nurse received a five-minute major penalty for cross-checking and a game misconduct in Monday's 5-0 loss to the Kings after driving his stick down onto the head of Byfield after the two fell to the ice while battling in front of the Oilers net.

The incident happened at the 14:36 mark of the second period and Byfield did not return take another shift afterwards, being ruled out with what the Kings called an upper-body injury.

A suspension of more than one game would force Nurse to miss time in the playoffs, when the Oilers will face the Kings for the fourth straight year.

Could be costly for the Oilers who already without Ekholm for the first round.

It was stupid and very cheap dirty play by Nurse. I can't believe he only received one game, should have been three.

Bolts fumbled down the stretch like usual.. three extra time losses, one vs. Toronto. Flip those, they get first in the division.

You're right, they have no one to blame but themselves, still, a very good team is golfing after the 1st round, and I wouldn't want to face either team first round, especially Florida, they'll be in a bruising mood as usual!!

Agree 100%. Stars looked collectively lost out there. Man the speed of the playoffs really separates the haves and the have nots!!! Colorado- haves, Dallas-have nots, Toronto-haves, Ottawa-have nots, Jets-haves, Blues-have nots!!

Last night was some excellent playoff hockey across the board, with each game being decided by a goal.

I'm glad the Stars won. I hope that series goes to 7 and the winner will be black and blue for round 2.

Oilers taking far to many penalties. The Stars look like they are back on track. Habs with two great efforts, but going to have to find some offence.

The Avalanche down 2-1 is something I didn't expect.

The Habs might not have the horses to keep up with the Capitals.

I'm baffled at how bad the Bolts have been so far. Can the Cats sweep?

The Garbage Knights down 2-1 is enjoyable. The Wild are looking pretty good - and I don't like that.

The Sens on the ropes isn't shocking. I just can't stand that it's the Leafs doing the damage.

Truly the outcomes are somewhat surprising.

Knew the Wild are capable but showing better than expected
Dallas, Leafs and Panthers definitely have finished well
The Caps probably will keep handling the Habs
Oilers need to find a better compete level
Hurricanes should take the Devils quickly
