Quote from: TecnoGenius on July 01, 2025, 01:23:17 AMBut our D is deisgned to do precisely this.  We want to force them in the middle.  All the while keeping levels of defense so we can (hopefully) stop the explosion.  And on top of that, sometimes we get the RB in the back field, which is gravy.

We seem perfectly happy to give up the 4-6Y run nearly every time.  Limit the 10-20Y runs.  Eliminate the 25Y+ runs.  Try to get them in 2nd and medium or long and then mess with their pass.

In this we are basically unlike every other team.  Is this a function of personnel or just a strategy choice?  We certainly didn't play this way when we had Stove!  In any event, it mostly works quite well.

The real test will be when we face the run heavy teams like CGY and SSK.  However, they were run heavy last season and we whooped them pretty darn good!

It shouldn't stop you from making a tackle at the LOS either.

I'm pretty sure it's a trade-off.  The big LoS-stuffing teams are loading more LBs in the box, or having them cheat up to the line real darn quick in an "assume run" posture.  Or they simply have the top-3 DTs in the league, like when we had Stove.

Watch what we do.  We leave everyone back and then stuff the line as we see how many are staying in the box.  (Even then, we take our time.)  One advantage of match coverage!

It's like when BC finally decided to stop Ouellette.  They just stuffed it all up and said STOP.  And they did.  Until SSK shifted tactics to open things up again...

We have a very unique style of D, and DL play.  And LB support.  It's not very traditional at all.  It's fun to watch, and at times I'm amazed it seems to work to shut down drives.  (Except in GCs, it appears.)

A very good and accurate take on how we do things.  Yes our D is unconventional.  Hall set us up well and now Younger has started to perfect his craft.  Our strength is our system of rotation of players and plenty of fresh LBs to plug and play.  It's been a magical run on D and yes so fun to watch.  I and many others on here seen this brilliance early on and I am so proud of our dominance and evolution on D.  Patience paid off in spades.

I know what we do. Yes it's a trade off.  It's not always effective to see an opponent end up with a 2nd down and 5 or less yards. Our strength is our secondary. That said, we're still giving QB's too much time to throw and that can create problems.

It's no different than the Bombers winning the LOS / TOP and using their run game which opens up the passing game and allows long drives potentially.

This week we're playing against Adams who can buy additional time and make plays. Mills is a very good RB.  We need to get to him early.

I see that the Stamps are projected to win although I don't agree with that analysis. It may be a harder fought match.

On playnow WPG is 3 pt favorites.  Not sure where you're seeing WPG is the underdog.  With both Zach and Brady and basically the whole REC corps healthy I really don't see CGY winning if a "normal" game takes place.

Oh, the pundit guesses?  Ya, those clowns usually do worse than our top pickems-ers on this forum!

I trust the gambling odds (actual money on the line) and the Old Dutch Pickems dial more than pundits!  P.S. Dutch has WPG at 82% right now.

Thomas is playing so I guess he's feeling better after cold / flu symptoms earlier this week. Missing practice was not a big deal but he might not be 100% yet. Hopefully he doesn't have a similar problem like Bryant last year.
