CFL has announced the 2026 Grey Cup game/event will be in Calgary in 2026.

Interesting the GC game is in the west for 3 consecutive years - 2024 Vancouver, 2025 Winnipeg, 2026 Calgary.

QuoteCALGARY — The Canadian Football League on Friday announced that the Calgary Stampeders will host the 113th Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2026.

This will be the sixth time Calgary hosts the Grey Cup – the game was previously played at McMahon in 1975, 1993, 2000, 2009 and 2019.

What a terrible choice.

- They just had it in 2019
- It is a decrepit corpse of a stadium that needs to be torn down
- Their fan engagement and attendance is at an all time low
- Probably have the lowest odds (at this point in time) of appearing in a coming Grey Cup

I can't think of a single reason to have a Cup in Calgary right now.
My wife is amazing!

Couldn't agree more. But maybe this is by design...?

Give McMahon one last big show and then hopefully try and push for a new home for the Stampeders, so the next time Calgary hosts the Grey Cup it won't be in a derelict dump.

My crazy theory, anyway.

McMahon is trash.

McMahon is showing it's age for sure,   but it's not a dump!
almost every seat has a good view of the field.
concessions areas are under par, but old Taylor field was a much bigger dump in my estimation.

Was kind of expecting a return to the East and likely Ottawa.
But that being said, the fan base strength of the league is still the West.
I'd rather be a Bomber than a .....

Bombers in either reload or rebuild mode by then. So unlikely they will be in that game. As I live in Calgary will go to the GC festival events and maybe hang out near the stadium game day for pre-game events. Probably scoop up el-cheapo tix once the game starts if Stamps or Riders are not in it.

I like McMahon.  Ya, weird eh?

However, the toilet facilities are definitely not up to GC capacity.  When it's 5 min into the 2nd Q and the can takes 45 mins to get into (guys can!! I can only imagine the ladies), that's just not acceptable.  If I go again there I'll definitely be doing my camel impression and also going low on the drinks.  My son is old enough he can go by himself, LOL

They should put a ton of portapotties against the back wall of the main councourse.

The hotel row right across the highway is the single best situation for a GC and getting to the game out of any city.  And there's a room for every budget.

Good thing about CGY is it's still just close enough to maybe drive, even though I usually fly.

Good points and especially about the toilets.  I do not see it as that bad except toilets and sound system they keep replacing. 2019 grey cup sounded like Charlie brown's teacher talking.

This kind of talk has gone on for decades. Calgary voters were  temporarily insane voting down Winter Olympics plebiscite a few years ago. Guaranteed money maker unlike the white elephant summer games. Almost all facilities from 1988 Olympics still in use.

I blame bloated spending in other areas for turning off citizens plus poor selling job.

Still remember the "Bread not Circuses" group killing the Toronto Olympic bid.  Somehow they thought the money that would have been earmarked for the Olympics would magically get turned into social welfare investment.  Oops.  They'd be using the infrastructure the Olympics would have paid for still today, some affordable housing and other infrastructure that would have benefited the community.
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

That was for a summer Olympics though if I recall correctly and ALMOST ALWAYS a few white elephants arise out of that plus now insane security costs.

Some people can't look past their noses with no vision of the future. Negative Nellies. PAS one example...slammed early on....now a gem packed to the rafters often with the best atmosphere in the league although I think they would love to utilize the facility more to offset maintenance costs.
