QB Dru Brown to start amid flood of reinforcements for Redblacks
By 3Down Staff -October 18, 2024

The Ottawa Redblacks are finally getting some good news on the injury front with five key players making their return for a pivotal matchup with the Toronto Argonauts, including quarterback Dru Brown.

The 27-year-old signal-caller has missed the last two games due to an ankle issue, with veteran backup Jeremiah Masoli struggling in relief. Brown has thrown for 3,114 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions this season, posting a 7-5-1 record as a starter.

The native of Palo Alto, Cal. will have some of his top weapons back alongside him as the team tries to claw back second in the East. Star receiver Justin Hardy is back after sitting out last week with an ankle injury. The 32-year-old remains second in the CFL with 90 receptions for 1,241 yards and four touchdowns. Veteran pass catcher Bralon Addison will also return in a rotational role, while Andre Miller and Daniel Oladejo have been bumped to the practice roster.

Along the offensive line, American Drake Centers will slot in at left tackle and bump Canadian Jacob Ruby into a backup role. Former first-overall pick Dontae Bull will once again be a healthy scratch.

The most impactful returnee may be on defence, where middle linebacker Jovan Santos-Knox is back after a six-game stint on the injured list. The seven-year veteran has recorded 53 defensive tackles, two sacks, and an interception in 10 games this year. Silas Stewart will be a healthy scratch to make room.

Rounding out the moves are the additions of Canadian linebacker Lucas Cormier and safety Yani Gouadfel in depth roles. American defensive backs Adrian Frye and Tobias Harris were both moved to the practice roster.

The Redblacks (8-7-1) will visit the Argonauts (9-7) on Saturday, Oct. 19 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT.

LS Adam Guillemette back snapping for Argos
By 3Down Staff -October 18, 2024

The Toronto Argonauts are remarkably healthy ahead of their pivotal Week 20 matchup with the Ottawa Redblacks.

There will be only one change to their lineup this week, as second-year long snapper Adam Guillemette returns after battling a back injury last week. His replacement, Simon Chaves, has been returned to the practice roster.

The Boatmen currently have 13 players on their injured lists, with Canadian linebacker Fraser Sopik the only person on the one-game. Defensive tackle Woody Baron, fullback Brandon Calver, defensive back Jonathan Edouard, and linebacker Daniel Kwamou all practiced fully this week and should make their return from the six-game in the near future.

With a victory on Saturday, the Argos can clinch a home postseason game for the fourth straight year. Toronto has won three of their last four games, including recent wins over the first-place Montreal Alouettes and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, to secure a spot in the playoffs.

The Argonauts (9-7) will host the Redblacks (8-7-1) on Saturday, Oct. 19 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT

Hamilton is better than Ottawa at this point in the season.

As much as I hate them, the Argos are a very good team. The Grey Cup is going to be a tough win for whoever comes out of the West. The Bombers and Riders would both be in tough but I'd give the Bombers the edge due to our defense being so good at shutting teams down. The offense would be my biggest concern. The Bomber-Als game next week is going to be a good test. I don't see the Lions being much resistance to the Als but I guess we'll see.

Agreed 100%

They play each other in a nothing game next week. I predict Hamilton to win big. Ottawa just seems to have completely gone off the rails.

Wow, what a bum performance by OTT.  Dru back, JSK back... equals wipeout.

There are positives for us, though:

1. Compare how our D did holding TOR's O down vs OTT getting trampled.  This means our D is exceptionally good.

2. Our O stunk against TOR, but so did OTT.  Clearly TOR D is exceptional.

That said, we're supposed to be better than OTT in most aspects, so we should have put up more points and gotten that win.

Can't wait to see TOR & MTL beat each other up in the EDF.

Our D is exceptional, and we are going to regret big time losing to Toronto last game. BC will give us a good go at home in the WSF, but if we don't win in Montreal, which is a tough place to win in, then I don't like our chances going to Mosaic and facing a well rested Riders team.

Watching the end again:

OTT should have ground-kicked the OSK on that 3rd try.  Why break what was working?  That air-shot had zero chance.  Beauty ground kick BTW, we need to practice that.

OTT clearly has put decent effort into planning & practicing the "hook & ladder".  It was the best one I've seen in ages.  They actually looked like they were going to have a shot, until it ended up in the hands of a hoggie!  That would be great if they could score doing that.  If a team shows it can be done, maybe it'll force more teams to get good at it.
