This is true, but Montreal's D was much better in the second half of the season then they were in the first half.

Yes, But look at who they played on their 7 game win streak, 5 of which were regular season games.

All of which are sub .500 teams. Yeah they had a better 2nd half of their season, but you need to account for who they were playing. No one of substance. They never recorded a win against Toronto, BC or WPG in the regular season.
