New covid vaccine

I haven't seen Novavax available anywhere.  This should be the #1 vaccine offered, and I have to wonder why it isn't.  Is it a supply issue?  A cost issue?

From the research I have done, it is more effective, and is a non-mRNA version of the vaccine for those people that blame mRNA products for everything from heart issues to cell reception to global warming.

If anyone knows why Novavax is not showing up in Manitoba, I'd love to know why.

The Canadian Government decided not to bring Novavax into Canada, because so little of the non-mRNA was used last time around. You can ask you Doctor to bring it in for you. But, you or your insurance provider will have to pay for it.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the latest Novavax NUVAXOVID COVID-19 vaccine.

Manitoba government recognizes the importance of COVID-19 vaccines in helping to protect Manitobans against COVID-19 infections and diseases.

This year the Government of Canada is coordinating the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines through the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). PHAC has decided to only procure mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for the 2024/25 season. After PHAC communicated their decision, Manitoba vocally encouraged PHAC to procure Novavax as an alternate COVID-19 vaccine for those who cannot or choose not to be immunized with an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

Unfortunately, due to high minimum purchase volumes, to date, individual jurisdictions have not been able to purchase Novavax COVID-19 vaccine doses. Manitoba continues to stay attuned to what is occurring in other provinces and territories in the event there are future opportunities.

The article shows how little Novavax was dispensed, which, I think, was a makreting problem, Novavax was less known than pFizer and Moderna, so people generally went for the known names.  If they had made more direct appeal to the mRNA hesitant people, making them realize there was a non-mRNA option, it, no doubt, would have increased total number of shots.

As of February, only 37,343 Novavax shots had been administered in Canada, compared to more than 70 million Pfizer doses and about 33 million Moderna shots, according to Public Health Agency of Canada data.

If someone's genuinely that ignorant of how these vaccines actually function, I don't think new information is going change their mind.

Just get a vaccine if you can.

The visceral anti mRNA rhetoric that the anti-vaxx community, mainly in the US, has been spreading had caused a lot of people I know to question all vaccines, many refusing to take an mRNA COVID shot.

Personally, I don't really care, I've had AstraZenica, pFizer, Moderna and Novavax, never had a reaction to any, and have had COVID once even though I am working with the public every day, and play poker (perfect superspreader events).  My staff and many friends have had it multiple times, one staff has had it 4 times so far. 

Being older with many risk factors, I have no issue in getting vaxxed.  I know the benefits.  The one time I did get it, I got Paxlovid right away, and between that and vaccines, I had almost no symptoms other than a red line of the test kit.  Simple Ibuprofen for fever and aches was more than enough. 

I was waiting for the arrival of Novavax, but now I guess I'll just go get whatever my local pharmacy is serving up, and the flu shot the week after (probably will have a much worse reaction to that)
