Not just missed XPs & FGs.  Notice his kickoffs never go deep.  Rarely past the 25.  Puts defense in a bad place after even a modest runback.  Compare Bede in GC, usually to the 10 or past.

Hello Justin Medlock.  Mike the coach is waiting for your call or text.

Bede also missed 3 FGs in the GC. If he hits on all 6 of his FG attempts, it's a whole different story.

After reading through all the posts about Legghio I too was pretty hard on him when he missed that PAT after Grants' electrifying 102 yard punt return for a TD!   I that's where a Justin Medlock with his numerous years of preparation and experience shines.    I also noticed his KO's were 15-20 yards shorter than Bede who holds the CFL record for longest KO average in the CFL.   Our cover teams for both KOs and Punt returns have been incorrect all season and we allowed a few returns that gave them great field position late in the game.   Yet the Argos allowed Grant's 102 yard punt return for a TD.

The one thing Legghio likely doesn't get accolades for is he tackles hard and likely saved at least two or three returns for TDs as the last man back.   He bailed out our STs cover teams big time!   Also, that play he made in the LDC to avoid a punt block was incredible and flipped the field putting the Riders on their 20 YL as opposed to recovering the blocked punt deep in our end.   That was a critical play at a critical time in a close game....where incidentally he makes a FG from midfield and we take the lead late in the game.

A big part of the kickers game resides in their mental strength and given what he's gone through after his first season as a starter, I'd be more than willing to groom his as a Canadian kicker that does all the kicking.   His value to the team cannot be underestimated when it comes to managing our roster.    Winnipeg, unfortunately is one of the toughest cities to survive as a kicker especially coming in on the heels of one of the best kickers in CFL history!

We had several opportunities to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in that game and this time the football Gods weren't on our side like they were in the 21' Grey Cup.   Hamilton was the better team on that day and we still found a way to win it.   Last Sunday, the Argos overall were the better team and were rewarded with a Grey Cup.

That being said, I'm pretty sure Legghio will improve next season and clean up those missed PATs and add a little more muscle to his kicking leg.

Yes, those thick black dimmed glasses made him look like Clarke Kent out on the football field. Loved his watch though, you d think someone would have told him to take it off!! Also loved his funky shoulder shrugs heusedto do before he kicked theball. An absolute classic!!

You ended up being right. You are way too happy about it though. Somebody who has to point out that they were right isn't going to get the respect they think they will, especially when the todaso is as ill timed as this one.
Disagree about being right.  Impossible to know how another kicker would have faired

He wasn't right. Could easily blame Walker for not tackling Kelly on 2nd and 15. Or any other player on defence that didn't bring him down before he reached the 1st down. That led to points given up.

How about the entire ST that allowed their returner the long return which also led to points.

Prukop and / or Pierce for those two bad calls, one of which led to an int?

Anyone that wants / needs to put the blame on any individual for a loss doesn't know much about football. Let alone a poster with 52 posts and nothing better to do than focus on one 1st year starter.

Sophomore kicker.  Still learning, growing.  Doing all three jobs...

Let him concentrate on FG, and I think we have a long term answer.

Time to get a Global Punter...

My point is, it is hard to punt and kick.  Different jobs, different muscle groups, different motions.  Similar, but different.

The best FG kickers don't punt, except in emergency.  Even then, there may be a roster player that will P instead of the FG kicker.

Asking a young player to do both is not a recipe for best results.

Global P have shown to be very good, and not a roster issue. We could improve both the P game, and our FG kickers focus by letting Leggs concentrate on FG/PAT kicking.

The league has had many multiple role kickers. That's no issue at all.

Yes, as I have said before.  The league has also had players that play both ways, and kickers who were also QB's...

Just saying that now, the vast majority of teams use specialists. And Global P becoming the majority of P in the league, it just makes sense to let Leggs concentrate on the K duties.

How many teams had a P/K last year, other than us?

Domegala went 12 for 17 as a K last year in spot duty, as primarily a punter (Seth Small was HAM K) other than him, no one else used a P/K

Now we understand how valuable Justin Medlock was.....in the 2019 GC he made 5 and missed one.    He rarely missed a PAT.    He was also adamant about who spotted for him and it paid off in positive results.    He also had a strong leg for KOs and was able to get a lot of hang time on KOs allowing the cover team to get underneath quicker.    He made a lot more than Legghio and he was an import but worth every penny.

He made 6/7 FG in GC107 (fortunately, his miss didn't matter). And IIRC, he only missed a single PAT in 2019. He's the definition of clutch.

Same could be said for Castillo last year, too. He was money in the playoffs and didn't miss once.

Just for accuracy, 3 kickers performed all 3 kicking duties in a game this season.

Castillo 2
Bede 1

Domagala was the PK for the first 4 games with Laryea doing the punting. Domagala took over the punting (and ko) when Small started doing the pk.

He was an expensive import, and yes, worth every penny, and we were lucky to have him as he ended his career.

Having an inexpensive Nat doing the job gave the team versatility, and won 16 games this year.  Leggs did not lose the GC, but yes, he could have won it.  The team lost the game with bad play in all facets.  The easiest blame to lay is on Leggs, but it certainly wasn't his fault alone.

Well, there ya go.  Castillo - high priced Int.  Bede - not sure the price, but also an Int.

So, only one Nat P/K this year at all, and one on an ELC, who's team won the most games in the league (and its history), and lost the GC by a point.  One point.

So, yeah, Leggs was not the problem with this team, and going forward will continue to be an asset.  Luckily Walters makes roster decisions, and not knee-jerk fans.

There is no issue in bringing in competition for any position, regardless of the incumbent. Bombers had Mourtada on the PR all year. He may return next season but I think we'll have at least him or another 1 or 2 in the early going. Might even be a global player.

Competition doesn't always find the next man up immediately.

The comments on finding a Global kicker of some sort has been discussed. Not so much directly as a replacement but as a good use of a Global spot that could actually be productive.
