I'm not sure if he'd accept a low SMS. Perhaps worth a call but we're expecting Gathouth to be at TC shortly. Only so many roster spots and ability to pay SMS to veterans.

Nah, he's old and busted.
My wife is amazing!

Often the case with players that had success in the NFL, they rarely become stars in the CFL.

I'm not sure about the old and busted. He's a year older than Ceresna. I'm not familiar with his injury history but he could well be done.

He also made $8.6M usd during his NFL career, so a CFL salary may no longer be of interest.

A few interesting early cuts around the league.

-Hamilton Tiger-Cats cut CFL veteran Keaton Bruggeling
-Argos cut quarterback Jarret Doege, defensive lineman Thiadric Hansen, linebacker Jordan Herdman-Reed,
-Elks cut former Bison QB Jackson Tachinski trying out as a WR.

The Bombers would come out ahead if they dumped their 3 backup import QBs and grabbed Jarret Doege right away, he would give them the smart experienced backup they need while Elgersma develops.

Doege.  Pass.

All those guys.  Pass.

There's a reason they're being cut.  I bet Wilson could win as many games for us as Doege, should Zach go down -- so why make the change?  We're trying to move to a good future, not a meh status quo.  Neither Wilson nor Doege is that future.
Never go full Johnston!

Pass on all of the above. They were cut for a reason, they're brutal.

That seems like a blanket statement made without merit, how do you know any of them were brutal?

Because we've watched many of them for years (I, and many here, watch every game, not just our team's) and they never stood out.  Which means they didn't impact games.  Which mean they are middling at best.

Now, if you need something middling as a vet backup to put on the reserve (like we might want now that JSK is probably season-ended...) then maybe you look at these guys.  Maybe.  None are the future though.  I also have a "Woolerton" type distaste in my mouth for anyone who used to wear green...

(Hansen is slightly different, as he definitely got noticed and made a name for himself, but mostly amongst GLOBs... being the "best GLOB" doesn't count for too much, and he's now getting old and has injury history after leaving.)

Why did Ottawa sign Lauther?

I don't understand.

Ticats have Dobson, Kolankowski, and Johnny Augustine.

That will be interesting to follow.

Many reasons:
1) probably way cheaper than Ward because no one wanted him, I bet $100k
2) don't have to waste a DI on a kicker
3) he'll at least get you, what, 80%?
4) structure your O around always going for it on 3rd unless you're at the 25 or under
5) zero other choice

There's also a remote chance he pulls a H<20 more letters, mostly J's> and goes from zero to hero.

I don't think the ticats are planning on much ground game this season.

That's nuts, so many hard running Import RB's passing through the CFL in recent years, they have to have a credible running game.  They could have made a respectable Natl. backfield out of left over Canadians with Augustine, Sean Thomas Erlington or Antwi, who both retired due to lack of interest.
