Quote from: TBURGESS on June 09, 2025, 02:32:21 PMWatch it again. The DB leads with his shoulder and makes first contact shoulder to chest. That's exactly what the CFL said they wanted.

I think it was more the "defenseless player" aspect of the rule, though I'm sure there was some helmet to helmet contact as well.
My wife is amazing!

There was helmet contact, but the first contact wasn't helmet to helmet. Are you suggesting that every time a helmet comes off there should be a penalty on the defence?

No the players that loses his helmet should receive a penalty regardless, up until a few years ago, it did not happen.  I think players have this strange idea that a looser fitting helmet lessens the chance of concussions.

BOTH helmets came off.  No arms involved to rip them off.  The only thing that can do that is some major H2H collision.

The command delay wasn't to see if it should be 15Y or not: the delay was to decide if it was 25Y DQ or not.  I think he speared (another tenth of a sec and he would have been off his feet as he was launching himself).

Week 1 is a great time to set precedent and tone for the whole season.  I think we missed a good chance to make DBs rethink that hit.

Harris' lid came off all the time without contact.

It was a heck of a hit, and both players decelerated/accelerated rapidly, which could easily dislodge improperly secured buckets.

I don't think it was helmet to helmet, especially no the initial hit.

Defenseless player, maybe, but then every player not looking at another player about to hit him is "defensless".

DB could have tackled but chose to punish late in a game that was already out of reach, I hope they fine his *** off to send a clear message.

It was unnecessary given the context of the game but I didn't think it was that bad a hit and Tre Ford should get the assist for throwing it high and right at a spot where the only defender within 20 yards could line it up perfectly.  Edmonton won't have receivers if he keeps tossing them like he was all game.

Stats Junkie

One observation (not apparent on TV)

BC used a bunch formation prior to all but one kickoff. A few times, it appeared as though Carl Meyer kicked the ball far too soon, not allowing the coverage team to get into their lanes in a timely manner. Edmonton took advantage of this with a handful of lengthy returns.

I agree that Ford seems to throw an higher percentage of suicide balls than other QB's.  I don't have stats to back that up, it just seems that way.  Scramble rules means that rec's are not in their conventional routes, and DB's are ball hawking.  He has a decent arm on the run, but the ball ends up in spots that just seem to be trouble for the rec's a lot of the time.  Like that time.

Ford still plays too much sandlot football which means jumping off script as soon as a play breaks down and throwing to the first open guy you see, where and whenever.  3 years into his career he needs to be more disciplined and locked into his playbook. Fajardo knows what's coming.

I think we all know what's coming, same thing happened last year, they give him the starting role only to have him prove that he shouldn't be the starter. Nothing has changed since last year, he's still the same fly by the seat of your pants type Qb, entertaining- yes, win football games consistently-no.

Kinda strange they didn't retain Jarious Jackson if he was already living in Edmonton.
