Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released veteran quarterback Jake Dolegala.
Dolegala was signed by the Blue and Gold last September after being released by the B.C. Lions in mid-August following the team signing Canadian QB Nathan Rourke.

Is he in town?  If not, no he hasn't. He may look good in non-contact videos but doctors conduct medical tests and may not approve body contact, they could throw him on the 6 game to protect him from himself.

Maybe Dolegala asked for it?

Could be, similar timing to Max Charbonneau, decided he didn't want to go through TC. Maybe done.

I thought he'd be the one out the door the soonest. He may have asked for his release but I think this was a Bomber decision based on their current ranking of candidates.

Doesn't really matter I suppose. He has a chance to catch on elsewhere but he's running out of choices and every team has new QB's trying to win spots.

If the bombers were high on him they wouldn't have signed Patterson, now with just signing another qb Chase Artopoeus and drafting Elgersma the qb room was just too crowded.

Patterson will stick around, Strev most likely starts the season on the 6 game injured list.

Pete's right: the timing indicates the drafting of the QB prompted the Dolegala release.

And if it didn't, it makes a great excuse now!

If I was Dolegala though, I'd be a little miffed I wasted all of FA on the WPG roster and now it'll be hard to find a job.  However, wait until the injuries start hitting... last year was a low-QB-injury year.  Maybe this year goes back to being a high one.

Yup, if you need a guy to start a few games should Zach get injured, Patterson is clearly "it".  Maybe if he sucks you put Wilson (or a healthy Strev) in.

Hey, excluding SY specialists, have the last 3 QBs we've signed in FA all been ex-Riders?  Going back to DB Durant.  Huh.  I'd love to see some QB talent hired that isn't all green.  If they bring in Fine next I'll go mental!

No surprise he got released, just why did it take so long. He didn't have it in Sask or BC, and if he had anything worth anything, he would have been put into the GC game when Zach got hurt, the fact he didn't, he was toast right there, why keep him around after that??

Desperation?  Clearly Mafia is keen on having decent #2 options this season should Zach be hurt.  I think what they are really telling us is they don't have confidence in Wilson.

The funny thing is, with all of these QBs passing through, if Strev is healthy and Zach goes down, I bet he steals the temp starter job!

That's football business. Bombers didn't know they'd be able to land a QB in the draft. It may have been something they wanted to do, but it wasn't certain he'd be available.

Even the QB from our neg list may have said no thanks. Perhaps the rehab by Streveler became more optimistic.

So decisions can change in a moment at any position.

In any case, I'm not sure Dolegala would have other offers even if he was a free agent in Feb. Every team had choices, neg lists and other free agents to consider.

Sure it's possible he gets an offer in a week as some players fail medical or get cut after rookie camp. I wish him luck, but he might not see any interest until injuries add up.
