Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign defensive lineman Brock Gowanlock

WINNIPEG, MB., February 11, 2025 –  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Canadian defensive lineman Brock Gowanlock.

Gowanlock
(6-3, 235; Manitoba; born: July 11, 1996, in Duncan, B.C.) joins the Blue Bombers after spending the last three seasons with the Montreal Alouettes and returns to Winnipeg where he played his college ball with the Bisons.

Gowanlock was on the injured list for 15 games in 2024, limiting him to three games in which he registered two special teams tackles.

Selected by the Alouettes in the eighth round, 66th overall, in the 2020 CFL Draft, he has played in 19 regular-season games over three years and was on the field for Montreal's win over the Blue Bombers in the 110th Grey Cup in 2023.

Gowanlock played five years at Manitoba (2016-19) registering 177 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, four pass break ups, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one touchdown in 38 games for the Bisons.

He was a Canada West All-Star and U-Sports Second Team All-Star in 2021.

Ok. Canadian depth if they can get him on the AR. He adds to the depth we had already at DT. There isn't room for all those DL on the AR but let the competition decides who ends up where.

Never understood why the Bombers let Owen Hubert walk away. He had a decent start to the season, and then off to the PR for the rest of the season. Owen has excellent size, and big motor.

Gowanlock could be Feltmates replaced???

Interesting idea. It's not a bad idea if he can transition to that. There is an opening for somebody. He might see some time on ST's as well?

Seems to be a little small for a DL type.

Training camp fodder? 235pds?  In the world of  pro football, that's way too small unless the guy is super fast, and a Def end.  Come on boy let's go to McDs.

"He hasn't always been a lean 230-pound problem for opposing quarterbacks. When Gowanlock was first recruited to the University of Manitoba back in 2016, he was a 310-pound defensive tackle who was fresh off of a 14.5 sack season with the Langley Rams of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL), as well as a CJFL All-Canadian nod."

235lbs is a DE, not a DT.

I know that. I was just suggesting it gives us that other option for a Canadian DL ( @ DE ) since we have 4 or 5 DT's coming to TC. In addition Bombers often use 3 DE sets as opposed to traditional 4 man front.

The biggest down side for me with Gowanlock is the amount of time he has missed due to injuries. 3 years in the CFL and he has only played in 19 of 54 games. He missed 15 games last season.

Seems to be brought in strictly for ST to me, biggish LB size, can never have enough of those guys.  Maybe being an ex-Bison he made a connection with the club when he was there as a student.
