TSN isn't replaying games all night -- weird

CFL fans who have TSN on Shaw/MTS probably know that TSN will replay the day's games all through that same night (i.e. midnight through 7am).  So if you miss it or your PVR screws up, you get another shot at it.

Since around the time they started the CTV games, TSN has stopped doing this.  I've noticed the games show when they first air, and then it's no replays the rest of the night.

This is very odd: like hitting the scoreboard odd.  I don't recall them ever doing this in prior years.  I wonder if the deal with CTV had some stipulation they stop reshowing the games?

They still have the Tues night 7pm "best game of the week" re-airing.  But that's it.

It really doesn't make sense, as all 5 TSN channels are basically playing nothing but SC all night.  CFL games sure qualify as better content than 5X SC for 7 hours straight!

Anyhow, does anyone know why, or what's going on?  And if you didn't know, now you know so you don't get caught out thinking there's a replay you can catch.  This CTV nonsense is like a Darth Vader deal -- just keeps getting worse all the time.  I'll rejoice when they declare it a failure and never do it again.

Does it coincide with the CTV deal or with NHL camps/preseason starting so there's non stop hockey to talk about?

Seems like a weird thing to blame on CTV.

CTV must be trying to revive the good old days of TV viewing, miss a program and and it's gone for good. :D

For those who missed the game or want to re-watch CFL+ has archived the game and it is accessible for 48 hours afterwards, although a VPN is likely required to do so.

TSN has both of last night's games available on demand via tsn.ca to anyone who has a cable package. Sign in using the option 'Sign in through TV provider". TSN still has last week's Als-Argos available on demand.

Games usually are available on demand shortly after the last replay on TSN2 or a couple of hours after the game if not replayed on TSN2.

I can't say for sure, but I noticed it around the time CTV started playing the games.  I 100% know for sure they were playing the games all night long just a short while ago, because up to that point I had to always go into my comp PVR and tell it not to tape all of them (once I was sure I got the games on first showing).

As for hockey: they aren't playing hockey games all night long.  They are just playing repeats of SC on (often) all 5 channels the whole night.  How hard would it be to take 1 of those channels and show repeats of the day's CFL games?

What's the point of having 5 channels then?

Also, they didn't stop re-playing the wee-hours games in the last few seasons!  This is a new thing this year.

No, the only logical explanation is there is some rights issues or some new deal.  Unless you have a better theory, I'll blame it on CTV.  After all, at the time CTV started I did ask whether TSN would replay the CTV games in the wee hours... turns out the answer wasn't "no, no CTV replays", it was "no replays at all".

Ya, that's always the panic worst-case backup option for me, and it does work.

But if I'm stuck using just the streaming, I'm stuck with their bad UI and lose all of the computer PVR tools.  With streaming "all your base belong to them", with my computer recordings I'm the boss.

Well I believe the point of 5 TSN channels is for different regions, it has nothing to do with showing different things.

And personally I don't find it logical that CTV showing a game a week has anything to do with TSN programming. I was watching sports centre before the Bomber game yesterday; guess what it was? Straight preseason hockey highlights.

Unfortunately for CFL, once hockey starts, CFL gets pushed to the back burner.

Again, this has never happened in any prior recent year.  This is new this year.

Works well.  Thanks for the "heads up" SJ!  Watching the Bombers/Cats game as we speak.
