Quote from: Pigskin on November 02, 2024, 02:48:00 AMEnded up making an unexpected trip to Pine falls this afternoon. Made the trip up to the mouth of the lake. Forgot how cool it can be in a 16 Lund open boat at this time of the year. Fishing was as advertised. Lots of big green backs, many over 22". Ended up with our limit all between 18 and 20". No damage to our vehicle, but my buddy does have a parking pass. Fish and game waiting at the exit checking vehicle for license, size and limits. A few unhappy anglers.

Where are you launching from and why do vehicles keep getting damaged?

Back in Kenora. Hearing there was good fishing in the channel this weekend. Lots of nice walleye's. However the channel claims a lot of jigs. Getting lots of calls for jigs this morning.

The launch at Pine Falls is pretty spacious. My dislike with it is how steep it is and how iced up and sloppy it gets during this time of year.

I remember about 5 years ago, towing a truck and boat part way up the hill because the launch was so icy in the late afternoon.

You guys should try the Traverse Bay Marina boat launch, they finished it a couple of years ago. It's closer to the mouth of the lake and probably not as steep.

Apparently we will be headed out there for Thursday afternoon. Not expecting any any problems at the old mill road launch as the weather is going to pretty decent. However it might be nice to drop by the Traverse Bay launch on our way home to check it out. The Traverse Bay launch would also save the ride up the river to the mouth of the lake.

On an unexpected trip up to Bird River on Friday, I got a little fishing in with my granddaughter. There was a pretty good wind so we did all drift fishing. Bottom bouncers and lindy rigs, with nightcrawlers in about 12' of water. A number of perch, but when the walleye hit they were all nice size keepers.

Yesterday was the last trip of the season. Had to finish a heat pump at our rental cabin on Bird River, so we decided to go out one more time before winterizing the motor. No wind so we trolled up and down the river a few times with bottom bouncers and lindy rigs. The bite was pretty steady. Filled our limit with some really nice walleye's. Nice way to end the season.

Don't have a lot of experience with fish in Manitoba but I did order fish and chips at Moby Dick's in
White Rock, BC the other week (it's right on the ocean) and it was delicious.  Highly recommend them.
