He could face some kinda suspension. They have Dukes so they might be ok anyways. No RB though.

They signed Ka'deem Carey

Quote from: Waffler on February 24, 2024, 11:26:45 PMAny chance we trade a top pick? We are in win now mode and occasionally a team will pay a good price to move up.

No, we need our draft picks to restock the shelf. And what are we going to trade for? We know we don't have the cap room to add contracts.

Quote from: TecnoGenius on February 23, 2024, 10:46:17 PMBiggie gets it as Biggie will be in this same boat before long.

This was a weird year with our top $$ FA questions unanswered for an extra couple of weeks.  Biggie hints that this may have caused the comms trouble.  Maybe.

My question is: so how did we handle top-10 player shedding in the past?  Is this normal for KW?  Or is this year really out of the ordinary?  Who are the departing stars in previous years, and did they get better comms?  No?  Then this is normal and just the way KW does it, for whatever reason.

We all know the famous AH debacle, but how about non-AH players?

I'm sure there are very good reasons for the way KW handles it other than "I'm a mean guy".  You could also try to compare to how other teams handle things...

This isn't a Walters thing, it was a Brady and Dalton thing. They took negotiations into FA and made it impossible to complete other moves.

Quote from: Jesse on February 24, 2024, 08:54:50 PMIt's a sad reality that if it was a no name player, he'd be bounced quickly. But Kelly's status will likely protect him.

TO number  1 makes me laugh they have had a brutal offseason.

They will be good on D but the O could  be a disaster.

Quote from: TecnoGenius on February 20, 2024, 02:29:45 AMTheir new list makes a lot more sense to me.  As with most years, there'll probably be a an unexpected surprise good or bad team.

I like that they downgraded MTL, especially after losing the 2 ELC monsters to the NFL.  Ento's still there, though, and Maciocia has proven an adept talent spotter.  But it may have been just a lucky flash in the pan from a middling team vs one with too many injuries.

#1 is VERY IFFY now with the Chad Kelly scandal happening.  I think Dru Brown will help Ottawa immensely. I'd rank them ahead of the Cat's for third in the East.  Bo Levi better have a late career renaissance or Hamilton is toast this year.  I also would rank Montreal ahead of Toronto just because of the scandal floating over the Boatmen now.

In the West I think BC and Winnipeg battle for first again. Calgary, Sask and Edmonton competing for third and/or a wild card if Ottawa tanks again.

Was this just a civil filing, or criminal filing in Ontario? If criminal and convicted, he may be banned from even entering Canada. So would be a moot point he's still with the Argos. If civil (either wins case or loses), then still probably gets a suspension of some sort and made to attend some counselling while on a probationary period.

I think more than likely this gets settled out of court before anything goes to trial. What happens for this season I have no clue though. Pinball and Argo's in a tough position over this crazy behaviour.

As much as we want to win it all every year, I think in the back of Walters mind is next season with the home Grey Cup. Season some younger guys this year while still remaining competitive, but going for it whole hog next season. Even go over the cap by $100,000 to win that home Grey Cup if you must as you only pay a $1 to $1 fine for that. Over that and you lose draft picks + the fine. I believe that is what the Riders did in 2013 with their Grey Cup in Regina. Sask pushed all their chips in that year (when they were still getting full houses) and with the Bombers hauling in BIG moolah lately they could afford it. I have no qualms about doing this as the old Eskimos had the biggest payroll in the 70's and 80's BEFORE the cap era. They bought many of their championships back then as they had regular high attendance in those days as well. Even gigantic Commonwealth stadium had many sellouts unlike lately when it seems like a ghost town! ;) Money talks, B.S. walks a fan once told me at the old Ottawa Landsdowne park when those RoughRiders (maybe owned by the farcical Glieb's at that time) were being blown out by the Flutie led Stamps! ;) :D

If they can get a combo punter/kick off guy, that would be great either in the draft or international. Sergio is fine for field goals, but his kickoffs need more distance. Giving up an extra 10-15 yards normally with every kickoff compared to the other team at times.
