Jets played good enough to win. PP has to be better to win these close games.

Quote from: Throw Long Bannatyne on March 26, 2026, 10:00:06 PMFajardo came close to retiring this off-season, so I don't think he'll stick with it much longer, unless he comes to the realization his earning potential will drop off a roof once he retires.

Zach had a similar situation just before he joined the Bombers...

Quote from: theaardvark on March 26, 2026, 08:53:32 PMThe only one in that group with a possible "age out" decision is Mitchell, and we've all agreed that Ford is never a starter in this league.  Even Arbuckle and Crum would be, at best, a third tier starter in the CFL, both have proven they can't lock down a starting gig.

Powell is the more interesting concept, depending on Fajardo.  If Cody continues his renaissance, Powell might shake loose in 2 years, but if he shows enough to get starting consideration, I think they cut Cody loose instead, although he's only 34, Powell is 27.

Quote from: dd on March 26, 2026, 04:42:36 PMArbuckle, Ford and Crum come to mind. They're better than any #2 we'll have and would welcome the opportunity to be a starter, and we'll be able to outbide their current teams as they'll prioritize paying Alexander, Mitchell and Kelly and that's not even considering we could likely outbid other teams on their current starter, aside from Kelly and Rourke as Zach's salary is up there so the dollars would be available to sign a Adams or Brown

Carruthers Avenue Park (Carruthers Park)

Built in 1920 by Manitoba Athletic Grounds Ltd, Carruthers Avenue Park was synonymous with soccer in Canada. Every national championship from 1920 until WWII was played at Carruthers Park except for 1933 (Toronto) & 1937 (Vancouver). Sgt. Sam Davidson served as secretary for the Dominion Football association for 20 years and had a preference for his local field over all others in Canada.

The grass field at Carruthers Park was considered to be one of the best fields in Canada. Floodlights were installed in 1933 then removed in 1940 when the park was shut down due to inactivity.

By 1944, the stands were falling apart and Manitoba Athletic Grounds Ltd was behind on taxes. The field was forfeit to the City of Winnipeg in lieu of back taxes and the derelict stadium was torn down. Matheson Avenue was extended through the former grounds and a new housing development was well underway by the 1950s.

The MRFU used Carruthers Avenue Park for two seasons 1920 & 1921 before returning to River Park. The MRFU returned to Carruthers Park late in the 1929 season for a tie-breaker and a WCRFU playoff game. The field was also selected to be used for all 5 scheduled games in 1930 but inclement weather led to bad field conditions and the MRFU was forced to relocate the 3 remaining games. The MRFU returned to Carruthers Park one last time in 1933 for the WCRFU playoffs.

September 13, 1930 – The team now known as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers played its first game at Carruthers Park , a 7-3 loss to St.John's. Starting QB for Winnipeg was Jack Millidge.

MRFU teams that called Carruthers Avenue Park home:

Victoria Rugby Club – often appear in papers as Victorias or Vics. Also referred to as Bisons because of the logo on the fronts of the sweaters
Tiger Rugby Club – played as Tammany Tigers. Appear in newspapers as Bengals, Jungle Cats, Tigers
University of Manitoba Varsity - students and alumni of U of M
St.John's Rugby Club – second incarnation of a St.John's team. Often appear in papers as Saints, Johnnies, northsiders, yellow & black attack
Winnipeg Rugby Club – appear in papers as Winnipegs

Visiting teams that played at Carruthers Park:

Hamilton Tigers (IRFU) – exhibition games in 1921 & 1930
Saskatoon – WCRFU playoff game
Edmonton Eskimos – WCRFU playoff game
Regina Roughriders – WCRFU playoff game
Calgary Altomah-Indians – WCRFU playoff game. Often listed as Calgary Altomahs in newspapers.
