I think we will. It's taking longer than I would have suspected, but people are starting to come out of their covid shells and attend things in person again. A club I'm involved in is finally getting some decent attendance. It's not just that being covid-scared that kept people away, it's that people got into the habit of sitting on their butt at home. People need to get back in the habit of going out. A CFL game is the perfect place to go. I think people are getting back their appetite for going out. That horrifically long winter may be part of it.
Less than a month till PS kickoff! Woot.

Than last year? What are you guys talking about?
Last years attendance was about as good as you're going to see. We made over $5 million as a club.
We had one dud in the middle of a rainstorm when the crowd looked mid.

I was thinking we were talking CFL-wide, not just IGF. However, I think even IGF can surpass 2022 attendance. Trust me, there were still a lot of covid-scared in 2022. People are eager to go out now. Even the WHO just admitted the pandemic is over.
As for WPG, we're coming off the 3rd straight GC appearance, into a "revenge" year, with our team stronger than it's ever been in this multi-year run. We'll have the best O in the league. If weather cooperates, I don't see how we can't do better in attendance.

Yes I was talking about CFL as a hole
Yes I am also hoping for bigger crowds for Bombers
Bomber store said months ago season tickets were going well

My bad, I was definitely talking about IGF.
League wide, I'm hopeful that Edmonton, BC, and Montreal can pick it up a bit. Although BC is in tough without Rourke. Just an absolute shame he didn't stick around.
Don't think any other team really has hope to improve.

Yeah it is hard to be optimistic
Calgary is still a shocker to me still. No one even cared about Covid out there so you cannot use that as an excuse. I am guessing that stadium is so bad people do not want to go.
Calgary is dumb when it comes to pro sports venues.
Saddledome is pathetic and seems to be ever in limbo.
Stamps new home seems to be a complete after thought.

Overstated a wee bit imo
Many in Alberta cared about covid, but yes less as it's right wing heaven
Calgary agree has a venue issue for Stamps
New arena coming for Flames

I certainly don't have any reason to think otherwise.

I'll be going to the Bomber game there this summer. I'm really curious to see how crappy it is in person, lol.

A worse version of canad inns is how I?d describe it
Not particularly good news for the Riders or the league...
CFL Attendances
@1CFLAtt
Saskatchewan
#Riders STHolder base is at a low. Their home opener also has well over 11,000 empty seats currently vs. their rival, Blue Bombers. Yikes
It's going to be tough ssn again in Saskatchewan to sell tickets.
I think the early start to the season is going to negatively impact crowds early on.. people just aren't used to getting into football this early. Hopefully it will mean better attendance later when the weather will likely be better than in late November. One thing in the cfl's favor is that there are no remaining teams in the nhl playoffs
This year if toronto winnipeg and edmonton had gone further it would have made the cfl rethink this.

Yes, you can add my cousins to this list. A couple of years ago they had 12 season tickets. This year zero.

Heck, that might convince me to drive there and attend! :D
I talked with a lot of SSK fans last year: at LDC, at BB, at week 17, at GC. They were almost without exception really depressed. You could tell it wasn't fun anymore. They didn't even have a hope of winning. Losing sometimes is fine. Losing most of the time is fine. But losing all the time is WPG @IGF in 2013. No one wants to be WPG in 2013.
SSK fans know their CFL. Jokes aside, they have a pretty good feel for CFL players. They know, like I know, that T.Harris isn't going to improve anything with their still-iffy OL and ho-hum receiving corps. They know they'll almost certainly be leapfrogged by C.Jones' Elks. That's adding insult to injury.
Goldie is right: they claimed to be the best fans that support through thick and thin. But they're really only just 1-3 years removed from looking like EDM or OTT fans: non-attendees.
An ideal situation would be if SSK lights it up in week 1. They might get some more STH out of that if the fans think they are better than EDM. If EDM trounces them, things will go downhill fast. (Losing to WPG in week 2 will be fine, because they'll expect to lose.)
Yes, not a great situation for the league: they depend on the good western team fan support.
I think SSK will turn around when they fire Dickerson The Lesser and JOD. If they suck bad enough, might they get the axe before LDC? Could Lapo end up back in SSK??
Keeping Dickie around was purely a cap saving move. I'm sure he'll by cut during the first extended losing streak. Clean house at the end of the year.
I am surprised to hear the Riders are not getting people out.
Is it because of the climate.?
One year I ordered about 20 tickets for a group I represented. We all sat together, buy one row over, they the Riders folk, mentioned at the Labour Day classic, shedulling the game was a concern. It was at harvest time, and it was a real decision to come to the game, for them, as the kids were out of school for the week, and helping get the crops off the fields!
Another experience (out of football) was when I was appointed to escort ten of our kids to New Brunswick, for an event called "Clash of cultures"
A number of events and local attractions around Moncton was provided. Wow! Now there the same groups from every province. On one of the excursions from Moncton to the attraction the adults(teachers) sat in the back of the bus. As we were talking I was next to a teacher from N. B. and their concerns every winter was that logging was reduced due to the snow, and their economy had to be based on half a year's work, rather than the entire year. That was an eye-opener!
So, my point is, depending on the regions, there may be economical or other factors involved that are keeping people away from Pro Sports. I am still shocked to realize the transportation industry and those shipping goods are still paying exorbitant prices. and our stores are passing the increased costs on to us. I am believing that this may be one of the causes of decreased attendance. When I watch a game at home, it costs me nothing. When I go out with the boys, it's about $65.00 for beers, as well as my Pinnacle lounge area ticket.
Sad to say. I think we are all realizing that our disposeable income has been reduced.
Maybe it's time to set up a Viewing area like the Jets and Leafs did, for those young fans.?
