Title: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: 3rdand1.5 on August 05, 2022, 02:28:12 PM As has been mentioned multiple times the horns ruined the broadcast last night. Perhaps if enough people send TSN and the CFL emails regarding the displeasure it caused during the broadcast they will act on it.

Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: Sir Blue and Gold on August 05, 2022, 04:07:01 PM I'm sure it will be addressed and it won't happen again. I'm all for fun but the fun for 2 fans can't come at the expense of 400,000 people watching the game on TV. The league knows TV audiences pay a large portion of the bills.
Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: Waffler on August 05, 2022, 04:09:00 PM It was a hand pumped horn, so never gets empty. Also, the radio said they mic it differently than TSN and it was not near as annoying on CJOB. If I am TSN I would be worried about this issue because the casual fan can easily turn the channel the second they are no longer enjoying anything.
Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: 3rdand1.5 on August 05, 2022, 04:22:11 PM Let the fans have fun no need to complain I am all for fun, and I appreciate the enthusiasm of the fans with the horn....but when it affects the broadcast it needs to be addressed. Go ahead blow the horns but CFL/TSN has to address the concern as I muted my TV and I know of a lounge that had to take off the live audio and many people who simply gave up on watching. That affects viewership/ sponsorships etc. If MTRL continues to allow them then TSN/CFL needs to filter the audio for the broadcast to filter that out. Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: dd on August 05, 2022, 04:55:07 PM this is totally bush league. Horns are banned around the league, but heck, Montreal just has to be different. No. Take the loophole away. No mechanical or artificial sound devices of any sort, end of story.
Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: Chocolaccino on August 05, 2022, 05:19:32 PM I don't mind people using external things like horns or cowbells to cheer on their team, distract the opposing offence, etc. as this is very much part of the game (13th man and all)... but it shouldn't interfere with the broadcast or diminish the experience of the people watching from home. A fellow fan told me this morning there is a league-wide ban on these types of horns, so why wasn't anybody enforcing this rule?
Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: DM83 on August 05, 2022, 05:52:31 PM They do it just to be annoying.......there is nothing motivating about it, nor does it
It's classless and unsportsmanlike. glad they support their team. No we are loud without that crap! See you at the tail gate again! :)Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: TecnoGenius on August 06, 2022, 01:15:20 AM Let the fans have fun no need to complain Normally I'd agree, but the horn thing is different. 1. It's a few fans sitting very close to the TSN booth window causing all the problems. 2. You can hear the 1 to 3 individual horns distinctly, It's not general drone noise like at IGF or Mosaic. There is a big difference in annoyance factor on tv. 3. It works like a compressed air horn (but it's hand-operated) which is outlawed in every CFL stadium in Canada. I have a few easy solutions that might even allow the horn fans to be happy: A. Designate the sections all around the booth as horn-free. If you have to, designate the whole side horn-free. Horny fans can trade their STs for the other side. This will instantly solve the on-TV problem. The horny fans can still horndog away from the booth. B. (More drastic) Outlaw that type of horn and give them all an option to trade-up to a Bomber-style blow trumpet. I'm not sure why everyone is finally, now, in a tiff about the MTL horns: they've been doing this for many years! I've complained about it in the past. If it's gotten worse it's because someone has gotten STs right near the booth. You gotta protect that area around the booth. Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: BLUEBOMBER on August 06, 2022, 01:48:12 AM This Gary Stern sure is a troublemaker isn't he... no wonder the Als suck this year.. See how Doman is turning the BC Lions team around and how he acts is a big difference from Stern.
Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: ModAdmin on August 06, 2022, 05:54:50 AM Just to be clear, air horns are NOT allowed in IG Field.
A full house, loud and proud fans are all that is needed to intimidate the opposition. So, fill the seats, come with a strong voice and the team will do the rest! 10 and 0 sounds pretty good to me! Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: bludan on August 06, 2022, 12:55:41 PM I was at the game. It wasn't just poor location by the tsn mic. I was across the field and it was so loud I was unable to talk to the person next to me as it was going in. I actually thought it was being blasted through the facility speakers it was so loud. Certainly would have impacted the huddles for our players.
Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: dd on August 06, 2022, 01:33:13 PM But that's the entire purpose of the horns--- to disrupt the huddle.of the opposition. Aside from the obvious annoyance factor of these things, what was the impact on the hearing from those.adjacent to.the moron pumping the horn?? 2 hours of noise above 120 db will result in at least temporary hearing loss. This is.a public health issue and i.am.surprised the guy wasn't punched out

Certainly would have impacted the huddles for our players. I really wondered if it was pumped in too. The noise was almost constant the whole game. It sounded like it came from a single source, and they showed the coupl who had horns, but that couldn't have broadcast across the whole stadium could it? Whatever it was, it was bush. Anyone with any ideas of doing the same, give your head a shake. Be loud the WPG way. Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: bludan on August 06, 2022, 02:36:12 PM But that's the entire purpose of the horns--- to disrupt the huddle.of the opposition. This is.a public health issue and i.am.surprised the guy wasn't punched out Certainly the purpose of it, and it would have worked. It's one thing to have home field advantage because of loud fans, it's another to have it because you bring in external sources. Those should never be allowed. That being said, the fans in Montreal were fantastic, warm and welcoming. Nothing but good things to say about everyone who wasn't using an air horn. Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: TecnoGenius on August 06, 2022, 07:59:15 PM Just to be clear, air horns are NOT allowed in IG Field. Ya, I know. But the problem with MTL is no one is defining "air horns". They used to be horns attached to compressed air cans. MTL fans are getting around this with hand-pumped air into the same type of horns. The result is the same but requires a little work by the fan; albeit with an unlimited air supply. Step 1 here is the CFL and the stadium clearly defining "air horns" to include the hand-pumped variety. Then just enforce the rules. BUT... will mouth-blown horns get sucked into this as well... how do you define "horns" carefully enough to exclude blown horns. Technically they are all "air horns". I don't have any horns, but many Bomber fans I've sat beside like their blue horns, and the low noise they make is not offensive, nor does it carry over all the other din. Title: Re: CFL and TSN and the horns Post by: TecnoGenius on August 06, 2022, 08:01:44 PM And I also still wonder: WHY NOW (in MTL)? This horn thing has been a TV annoyance for years. I think it was last year we got to actually see one on screen with someone pumping it. That's when I realized it was hand-pumped.
Why weren't there twatter threads about this last year? I'm happy it's coming up. I just wonder what took the world so long. |
