Listened to Toth, Westwood on 1290, a.m. radio this morning. Later was turning to 1290 near 11:20
to continue listening to local sports talk but they had ESPN guys yakking away.
Thought that odd, then an announcement was made round 11:35 that CFRW is going to a new format
starting Friday & the present broadcasting is no more
Their link is vague
This really sucks. It was my go-to for everything Jets and Bombers for the whole 9.5 years they were around. Their branding with TSN coinciding with the return of the Jets gave a big city vibe back then.
Now what will I listen to for daily gabber in the car? :(
I had a lot of issues with some of the stuff Westwood would say, etc, but it was always a friendly and familiar feeling hearing those guys talk about my teams. Same with Hustler.
This is going to be weird without them. I hope we get a replacement 24/7 sports station!
Apparently Vancouver & Hamilton got the same surprise shut down
Well, looks like I might have to actually subscribe to Sirius... my wife always laughs at me listening to "talk radio" in the car, I just don't enjoy music while driving. I like to stay engaged... whether it is comedy, news or sports... I got 3 months free with my new car, just got a 3 month extention for $2, but I can't see spending $12 a month for the limited time I am in the car...

I bought a new vehicle in 2019 and got the free Sirius for a while. It was neat I guess but I agree I'm just not in the car enough to appreciate it and pay for it.
In today's media there is far less focus on local stuff and having 1290 was a great way to connect on our teams.
Yeah, I used to listen to 1290 in the car all the time on the way to/from work. However, with working from home for nearly the last year I haven't listened tuned in nearly as much. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is in a similar situation. Sad day for all those employed by TSN 1290.

The annual subscription after the free trial is about $10 per month. And the content is practically endless.
Losing TSN1290 sucks from a local standpoint, though.

$10/mth for each vehicle or receiver... we have one at the cottage, one in each car... should be a lot lower "bulk family rate"...
No sports talk radio sucks. I wonder if anything is in the works?
Four pro sports teams and no talk radio?
