Walking Dead is becoming all filler and stupid writing like Glen and the dumpster.

Watched the first two of hotel and have the rest on PVR...lady gaga and her acting was a bit rough for me...i will watch the rest though.  You are right Walking Dead is bogging down - will still keep at it just for curiosity.

Kirsten Dunst is so awesome as her character...gotta win some award for it.  Working the cattle prod and steak fork to perfection...and the lines of the lawyer - Karl Weathers from 2 episodes ago are so good.

Season 1 of Better Call Saul was amazing as well. Season 2 should be as good if not better than Fargo.

Loved Fargo S2, even more so than S1. Bonus points for mentioning Winnipeg a couple of times.

Also enjoyed Mr. Robot which I binged recently.

Next on the list is The Leftovers and Making a Murderer.

Mr. Robot was good but complicated. The Fall is an awesome show and I can't wait for season III. X-Files is only a month away and I'm stoked for that.

Better call Saul S2 is just over a month away as well.

Those who have Netflix I bind he'd watched S1 Bloodlines, very good show and S1 Narcos, outstanding

Gotta love TV these days

It was hilariously corny! :D

The current reboot of The X-Files follows the same design as its previous version: have a main story but have the occasional the cornball episode. It works, IMO.

Walking Dead was awesome last night

Spoiler Alert!

they should have killed off Carl! Apparently people have been clambering for it for years in twitter. One eye Carl might be cool though. ;) At least they killed off all the wimpy cry babies trio from Alexandria. Didn't like any of those three.

Darryl with the bazooka was awesome!!!

Now Better Call Saul tonight! Season 1 was a top 3 season all time for me for any show! Can't wait. Love that Slipping Jimmy!

I've starting watching "The People vs O.J. Simpson" on FX.  Wasn't expecting much but am surprisingly impressed. First 2 episodes have me hooked and now have to watch all 10.

On a side note....... I'm actually volunteering to admit I'm addicted to watching Supergirl.   :-[

OJ is awesome, superb acting, very nice pace and flow to the shows, intriguing look what happened behind the scenes. If you look at the credits Travoltra produces the show as well.

Overall it's very well done.

Yes! I am watching this. It's really good.

Anyone checked out that show Superstore on NBC? I wasn't expecting much but it's on Hulu so I checked it out and it might be my favourite show right now. Mark McKinney from Kids in the Hall is the store manager and he's way too funny!

Yes! Vikings tomorrow!

On your recommendation I watched the 1st two episodes last night, I enjoyed the show and will watch the series through. (Jake has to be more careful with the way he handles his documents). For the uninitiated, the star of the show is James Franco and the book was written by Stephen King.

I've become hooked on series that have 8-10 episodes a year (11.22.63 has 9) - House of Cards, Narcos, Better Call Saul, Mr. Robot, Fargo, True Detective, X-Files etc.

11.22.63 is shown on Hulu in the States so I'm not sure if a network or streaming service has picked up the show in Canada. People can find it on Kodi however.

Edit: I see that 11.22.63 is on Super Channel in Winnipeg.

Billions is a pretty good, Walking Dead has been crap for the last two seasons. The comic book geek in me likes the Flash and Supergirl. I am ultra disappointed in Lucifer, how they could do this to Gaiman's triumph of a comic book series is just mind blowing. I was very disappointed when Kurt Sutter tied the can to The ******* Executioner but can understand why it never got traction. I miss Person of Interest, and am hoping for a season two of Wayward Pines.

TWD has been awesome since returning this year... Last night's episode was great. Especially when compared to "prime time" hot garbage like The Flash and Supergirl. The sudden onslaught of superhero TV shows has been mostly disappointing, IMO.

House of Cards season 4 just came out Netflix and the first few episodes have been great. Vikings has been good but I've missed the last two episodes and need to catch up on it.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, I'd recommend Legends. Excellent show.

I am one behind on 11.22.63 but found the last episode to be a bit "dragging"  maybe it will pick up.  I am also two behind on Walking Dead, I would agree that it has been a bit stale the last few seasons but I am still hooked enough to keep watching to see what happens - actually looking forward to the restart of the spin-off "Fear the walking dead".

Finished "House of Cards" last night.  Pretty good - not the same intensity of the first two seasons IMO but there was certainly some great moments (episode 10 with the letter opener was a highlight)..Claire was a focus of this season.

"....we don't submit to terror. We make the terror."   Sets up a good season 5 in a year.

Flash and Supergirl are what they are...comic book series. That does not make them hot garbage. Hot garbage is what the writers are doing to an excellent comic book series The Walking Dead right now. Just awful. At least Flash and Supergirl are staying true to their comic book origins.

That's a silly argument. Why does a series have to stay original to another medium in order to be good? That makes no sense at all.

And I mean those two series are hot garbage because they're made for prime time TV: friendly for the masses but lame for those who want more substance. Same goes for Arrow and Gotham, IMO.

Don't take offense because we don't see eye to eye on TV shows. ::)

LOL  no its not.

Maybe im taking what your saying wrong but it sounds like if if you dont like it its lame or hot garbage as you say.

I look at it this way... When i was a kid and a teen and into my 20s we actually read comics. We didnt have them on TV. Well we had a Batman. And cartoons.

I have no prob with Supergirl or The Flash.

So you call them hot garbage..... What would you like them to do with them?  Have them out killing people and a huge complicated story line? Maybe that would interest you and some others but its not what they are.

Want to watch real garbage?  Just tune into anything WWE.  Good grief thats crap.

Yeah, it is. A TV series based on another medium like a book or comic doesn't have to stay true to its original medium in order to be good. Consider the popularity and viewership numbers of The Walking Dead, the overall highly positive reception it's received since it launched, and you'll understand why I think that's a silly argument.

And yeah, you are taking what I said the wrong way. I think those prime time superhero series are generally hot garbage and explained why. The same way I've thought the same about certain superhero movies. And I don't have a problem with any of them; I simply don't watch them. It's just my opinion and doesn't affect your opinion or enjoyment of any of it, or any other person's.

You read comics when you were a kid...? That's nice. So did I. I still do. What's your point, though?

Sorry for offending/upsetting you and GCn15 because I don't like the same TV shows as you. Wow. :-\

LMAO   Im not upset in the least.  Funny

What im saying is its not silly for a show to keep to its basic story.

As for the walking dead... some like it some think its complete crap. My buddy watch the first few seasons and now says its as you say hot garbage. Ive tried to watch it but never got interested so i just keep my opinion of it to myself.

Point about the comics is simple..... If they came out n made supergirl flying around ripping peoples heads off and some mean arse b^#$* it would seem super stupid to me because thats not what she is.

Im not arguing with you or saying your opinion is wrong...  it is what it is and makes no diff to me.

GC may like things kept as how they are and not changed. Lots of people do.

You called that silly and it makes no sense. If your going to change supergirl or the flash to something there arnt or never been why bother useing the character then?

Anyway im a big fan of Vikings and its pretty much kept to actual real story's about the Vikings. Most of the characters were real except Ragnar.

Why does a series have to stay original to another medium in order to be good? That makes no sense at all.

Quote from: blue_gold_84 on March 15, 2016, 03:59:20 PM
A TV series based on another medium like a book or comic doesn't have to stay true to its original medium in order to be good. Consider the popularity and viewership numbers of The Walking Dead, the overall highly positive reception it's received since it launched, and you'll understand why I think that's a silly argument.

While The Walking Dead doesn't follow the canon or story of the comics, the themes, characters, and overall atmosphere of the TV series are similar. It's still a dystopian/post-apocalyptic drama with zombies, just like the comic books. And it still features a large cast of individuals who struggle with survival and their own humanity. The parallels are there and I think that's why so many are entertained by the show, much as they are the comics. That's why I think it's a silly argument to claim the show isn't good because it's not verbatim to the comic books.

I don't really understand your comment about a Supergirl TV series with her ripping off people's heads and "mean arse" stuff, as that doesn't even come close to the comics. :D

This is awesome..we can all have different opinions on shows...tried Flash didn't like it after about one season...never tried Supergirl....Green Arrow - no thanks...doesn't mean that others can't enjoy. One of my favorite shows of all time is Gilmore Girls - own the entire DVD boxed set.

growing up I loved A-Team, Simon & Simon and Riptide - thought they were the greatest ever when in reality they were likely true "hot garbage"...

LOL   Im not going to go on n on about this crap.

Ill end with the same question i asked you.... What do you want from Supergirl or The Flash?

I never read anywhere GC calling your argument garbage nor silly and he never said you made no sense as far as i can tell. He simply pointed out the shows are what they are based on their characters. You said they dont HAVE to follow the basic story of who they are. So what would you like? Supergirl to be a mean arse ***** ripping peoples heads off?  LOL

Anyway it is what it is. The shows are pretty well based on the super heros they started out as. Some like it kept that way and some dont i guess.

Precisely. If person A likes a show and person B does not, it's a matter of opinion/preference and nothing more.

And I share your sentiment on those TV series. I don't enjoy any of them in the slightest but if others do, that's their prerogative. :)

I take no offense to you not liking the same shows as me. We watch them for different reasons. I am simply rebutting your comment that they are hot garbage. Maybe to you they are, but that does not make it an accurate statement. To me The Walking Dead is hot garbage right now, however, if you weren't an in depth fan of them in the comic book run you will probably enjoy the TV series, therefore, I would not suggest that everyone consider it hot garbage. I'm a busy guy so I don't have a lot of time to spend on many series that require you not to miss an episode. It's what I like about the Flash, or Supergirl, light breezy entertainment that I don't have to be married too.

Fair enough. And I'm a fan of the TWD comics just as much as I am of the TV series. They're similar but different. To you, however, it's hot garbage. Much in the same way The Flash and Supergirl, along with Arrow and Gotham, are hot garbage to me.

Game of Thrones followed the books for the first while, then became Divergent.   Once the TV medium took a life of its own, it didn't need the books.  It evolved past them.

Many of the current TV series featuring DC characters are loosely based on the generic version of the comics.  The are alternate universes, different timelines, where these characters have differences.  So, we judge each one based on how well it fits our personal interpretation of the character, and most importantly, the writing, acting and production.  Some will appeal more to some than others due to one or more of these factors.  Some may appreciate a slick, well paced rendition that doesn't follow the character exactly, while others would prefer a less polished version that is true to their accepted version of that character/storyline.

Gotham is a perfect example.  A non traditional look at the DC timeline, but very nicely produced.  Not being a purist, I enjoy the show.  My wife doesn't, because the characters don't fit her preferred interpretation.  But she doesn't mind Supergirl, who is one of her favourite characters  (although lately, yeesh), in spite of their interpretation of her and the storylines, she just likes that her character has a show.

I'm probably in the minority but I haven't been able to watch The Walking Dead. Just can't get into it. Tried watching a couple episodes and didn't think much of it.  On the other hand,  I couldn't stop watching Fear the Walking Dead.. fabulous!

Am also looking forward to season 2 of HUMANS on AMC. Was impressed with Season 1.

No one has mentioned it but I think The Blacklist is one of the best shows on TV.  This being said......... James Spader makes the show what it is.  8)

Same. I tried on two occasions to get through the first season and while it was alright I don't understand the hype. I never really understood the zombie thing. I heard it gets better later on but I think I've missed the boat.

ill be honest apart from the first episode of the second half of this season has been a bloody soap opera and rather tiresome. So much so my wife's had enough of it but I'll watch the last couple episodes this season. You watch it all, it just seems to go round and round with no real ending in sight.

The writers seem to be running out if ideas and it's getting repetitive.

Season 1 FTWD was good to but the trailer with the zombie on a plane seems stupid. "Don't open the bathroom door!" She opens it and naturally the zombie comes flying out and bites her. Stupid!

The the whole stuck on a Yacht thing could be lame as well.

We liked Humans as well and am looking forward to season 2 for sure.

No you're right. James Spader might be one of the best TV actors of all time. He is an incredibly gifted actor and The Blacklist writers fortunately know what they have in him and give him an excellent vehicle for his talents. I have been a huge fan of his since Boston Legal....another brilliant show that nobody watched.

Just finished watching the OJ series last night,  I have to say the casting the acting was top notch (john travolta's strange face excluded).  I predict there will be Emmy's won for multiple people.  Sarah Paulson for Marcia Clarke was great, same for the guys playing Johnnie Cochran and Durden.  Even though I knew the outcome the verdict scene was great and having lived through the trial it was neat to see it unfold and remember what I was doing when it all happened.

Lol, to me it just seems like Travolta was trying too hard. Good series non the less.

I agree with Goldmember with respect to Better Call Saul being top notch. That montage in last week's episode with the dancing inflatable tube man and Jimmy being Jimmy was outstanding.

One show that no one has mentioned yet is The Leftovers. I binged watched it this past week and was not disappointed. Its an HBO show from the created of Lost. There has been 2 seasons of 10 episodes and there is 3rd and final season yet to come. It sorta starts slow but believe me it gets better as the series develops.

That last episode with Red having some kind of Sixth Sense experience... left me kind of baffled and impressed at the same time. At one point in the past, Red must have had to sacrifice Katerina in order to save Liz.  Deja vu all over again.

What I have been watching is The Night Manager - very, very good spy/intelligence mini-series.  It was broadcast in Britain earlier so you can find the whole 6 episodes on-line, AMC is showing once a week and is on episode 2 or 3.  It is worth the watch for sure if you like that stuff.

I caught up on The Americans. Its a great spy thriller set in early 80s shown on Fox Fx. They are currently in the middle of the 4th season (13 episodes a season).

If you like FBI vs KGB intrigue or if you like wigs this show is for you.

Yup, tonight should shed some light on what's gonna happen to her. The great thing about this show is they aren't afraid to kill off some of the regular characters. She could die tonight or be in episodes for the next year and a half.

Won't spill any spoilers on Martha...

Finally got Netflix last week. Starting watching "Orange is the New Black".  I can see why it's get nominated for so many awards.

Am thinking of committing myself to "House of Cards".  Is it worth it?  What other shows is it comparable to ?

We enjoyed "wayward pines" season 1, season 2 starts tonight, different cast hopefully it's as good as the first.

FYI I don't know what the hell Seth Rogan (producer, director,etc...) is smoking but episode 1 of "The Preacher" was just stupid! Avoid that one.

HOC is phenomenal. Spacey and Wright are simply amazing in it. Not sure what compares but if you like great TV, this series hits the nail on the head. Totally worth watching, IMO.

oh yah you need to watch it, it is not like any other main network show - great drama (touch unrealistic at times) but not over the top by any means.  First season grabs you in - jealous that you have that to look forward to...binge watching a great show is a guilty pleasure and HOC is one of the best.

Skip OITNB and start watching Wentworth.

Takes a few episodes to build, but guarantee you won't be able to stop watching it.

and can we talk about how epic Game of Thrones was last weekend? Season finale on Sunday :(

If we're talking Netflix, "The Killing" is a really solid series (not so much the last season, but the first two).

Really enjoyed the first season of Fargo, not so much the second.  Same goes for True Detective.

I was surprised by how much I enjoy Daredevil, I'm not really a comic book movie/TV guy (except for Deadpool).

Just finished Orange Season 4,  best season yet, and it's been renewed for 3 more.  I don't know how they are going to stretch the story that far, but we'll see.

I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons of HOC, but there was a definite pace shift in Season 4 (not saying that's bad).  Probably due to the fact that season 4 was part of a four season deal, so they can go deeper into the storylines.

Was thinking of starting to watch Vinyl, but now that it's been cancelled, thinking it might not be as good as I want it to be.

Have a couple episodes left of Season 4 - Orange Is The New Black.  Noticed a similar type show called Wentworth.  How does it compare to OINTB?

Watched most of Wentworth - binged then got tired of it...Started out great and then maybe I watched too much of it in a short time or the story started going too sideways.  It is way more dramatic than OITNB - not much comedy at all...it is interesting though and well done from an acting and writing perspective.

Wentworth is definitely darker than OITNB. Just a better written series. Netflix doesn't have season 4 yet, as it just ended on network television, I would imagine it's going to pop up in the fall.

I watch most of my TV later at night and my brain couldn't get past episode 3 of season 2 of mr robot.  When I have to read internet blogs and forums to even try to understand it was too much. Maybe when they are on Netflix or when I can watch one after another it would be easier - and it isn't midnight after a long day of work.

PVR'ed it but haven't watched...interesting premise (I do like the time travel genre) Quantum leap was a fav although if i watched it now i would prob just laugh it off as terrible...being a "network" show my expectations are lower than if it was Showtime, HBO or AMC...I will give it a try.

agreed we gave up on "Fear" ages ago but WD needs to be careful as they were going round in circles last year to till the end. Yes u can tell they are running out of ideas for the show. How many times can you watch the group discover another haven only to have it ripped from them again and again? WD has bbeen en rather repetitive at times. This season has a chance to be better as they already killed off Glenn and Abe now kill annoying Carl and the annoying pregnant white chick off and now we're taking!!

As far as new shows go for this fall

In the "Thought I'd hate it, but I love it" category - Lethal Weapon.  They've stayed true to Riggs character in a very effective way, and Damon Wayans is a far better Murtagh than Danny Glover

Speechless - I find Minnie Driver to be way over the top, but it really works for her in this one, and the cast of misfit family members is done quite well

Designated Survivor - again, didn't really think I'd like this one, as I figured it would Jack Bauer, POTUSA.  But it's not.

American Housewife - just plain funny.  Dedrich Bader as the somewhat clueless husband is perfect.

Shows that have tanked this fall

Blindspot - almost unwatchable.  Should be cancelled ASAP.

Blacklist - hoping it's just a one season dip (ala Alias, 24, SOA)

NCIS everything - too many spinoffs, too many years, falling into the Law and Order rut

It was just the mid-season finale last week for the Blacklist. A bit weaker than other seasons but Spader is just spectacular in every episode. Looking forward to seeing how the Mr. Kaplan plot plays out.

For season two, Paul Reiser and Sean Astin have been cast. ;D

Thanks for the tip. Finished watching it over the weekend. Winona Ryder finally getting another shot at television was good to see  :)

Super stoked for season 2!

I've been watching MARS on NatGeo, too. Four episodes in and it's pretty fascinating. B grade acting for the most part but it features some of the most brilliant minds in science/space exploration as the documentary portion (it's essentially a docu-drama taking place in the present time and then in 2033 as humans first travel to the red planet). Highly recommended if you're into the whole human colonization of another planet thing.

I tried watching and loved the documentary parts but just couldn't get through the 'dramatic' fictional parts. I'm a big fan of science docs and not so much a fan of sci fi, so Mars is a gamble for me lol.

Yeah, some of it's a bit much and the acting at times is more comical than anything. It is interesting to see the technology being used and the setting itself (Mars' surface, living quarters, greenhouses/labs, etc.), though.

Everything about this show is extremely high quality, acting foremost. I'm not sure how TV awards work but Westworld could take home quite a few if they do it like they do for film (male and female acting roles, various writing awards, music, cinematography, etc)

Anyone else catch the Netflix series "The Get Down"?  Stumbled upon it last night.  Takes place in the South Bronx circa 1977. Show focuses on the origins of hip hop and rap during the Disco era. The acting, singing, and dancing are all superb with an amazing soundtrack to boot. Jimmy Smits is the only well known actor I could recognize. Grand Master Flash is the executive producer of the series. Was totally blown away by the first episode.  Highly recommend people giving this show a watch.   8)

Absolutely phenomenal last few episodes. This past week's episode was fantastic.

Started Six last night but fell asleep about half an hour into it. What I remember was pretty top notch, but I'll have to finish it this weekend.

EDIT: watched Six last night. Great first episode.

Second episode of Six was pretty good and the end was just nuts.

Cardinal debuted last week on CTV. Really good first episode, so I think tomorrow's will be much of the same. A dark, gritty crime drama made in Canada? Yes, please.

Now there's a show I've tried at least 5 or 6 times to get into because everyone talks about how great it is, and fail miserably every time.

I think the storylines are actually hilarious but I cannot get past the three guys and their constant chatter. I feel like telling them to shut up and let the grown up do the acting and progress the plot! lol

Season 5 is typically considered the best season for good reason, if you haven't watched that I'd recommend checking it out. If that doesn't do it for you it's pretty unlikely the other 11 will.

I wouldn't really say there is any sort of plot to the show. Their are certain things that sort of carry through/effect the "story", but not enough where you could probably watch the seasons out of order and be fine (Although like pretty much any show, watching them in order would still be ideal).

I was late the Silicon Valley party as I just binge watched it this past week. I don't watch a lot of comedies on TV as most aren't funny to me.

However, I found Silicon Valley to be hilarious and couldn't stop watching it. Good thing is the new season starts April 23rd.

TJ Miller's character Erlich Bachman reminds me a little of Kenny Powers.

I have a story idea for the show: the dudes from Workaholics need to drive up from Rancho Cucamonga and party in Silicon Valley for a weekend.

Got it queued up on Netflix and looking forward to watching it. Momoa's a solid actor.

Vikings' new season has been great (I missed this week's episode) and I really enjoyed the series premiere of Knightfall, even though it was a bit hard to follow at times. I'm hoping episode 2 from this week will be better.

Yep, Vikings has been great so far and I have been saving each new episode for weekend viewing, so I'll catch up today or tomorrow.

Thinking about checking out nightfall soon. Looks good, as they've been hyping it to the Vikings crowd so if it's a similar style, I'll probably like it.

Black mirror is definitely a weird/great show  - some of the episodes from past seasons had me turning the lights on and sitting there after thinking "what did I just watch?"

What are the best episodes of this new season?

I don't know if Americans is streaming anywhere - I think I obtained through "alternative" methods...I will see if I still have them - I doubt it though.

I found them all good. I?d watch one and think, woah, that?s messed up and then watch the next one thinking the same thing. The finale, if one looks closely, has some visual throwbacks to other episodes and seasons. The show definitely keeps you engaged thinking what other twists and turns could there be? I love shows like that.

I think I have to order Fx channel to watch The Americans...could probably watch past seasons through on demand then. For now I?ll find something else.

When I started watching season 1, I stopped for a bit as it was too weird. I tried it again in summer and blitzed seasons 1-3. I guess I was more prepared for it the second time around :D

Currently watching Riverdale.  Wasn't sold on it in the first episode, but once you get past that one, it grows on you pretty quick.  It's interesting how much liberty they take with the characters (it's only true link to the comic book is the fact the characters exist, IIRC Miss Grundy was originally a cranky old septuagenarian, not an early 20s hottie who sleeps with her students, but I can accept that departure).

A show I ignored for years turned out to be one that I marathoned through. Great acting, good storylines, and just the right amount of violence and mayhem. Hell on Wheels...I highly recommend. Chris Heyerdahl as the Swede was fantastic. A western loosely based on historical figures in the Wild West.

Anyone checked out Frontier? Man oh man do I love that show. If you're at all interested in Canadian history, it'll be right up your alley.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've watched the first season so far and wasn't disappointed. However, it had me question whether I should shop at the Bay or not. Lol

Some other shows that I binged recently on Netflix that I would recommend;
Halt and Catch Fire
Peaky Blinders
Mindhunter
Manhunt: Unabomber
Ozark
Godless
American Vandal
BoJack Horseman - a show I started watching awhile ago that I thought deserved a shoutout

years back I read & most definitely enjoyed, a book by Caleb Carr called "The Alienist" ...... now Netflix has put a S1, 10 Episodes out for enjoyment.
It is a captivating, psychological mystery set in 1896 New York where heinous mutilations are occurring during the new technological advancements.
Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt fighting corruption, agrees to a team being blended together, behind the scenes, to solve these ritualistic crimes.
The adaptation to the screen is top notch, direction superb & the visuals of dire poverty are amazing. There is cruel racism & the theme is shocking.

Started a bit slow with the looking around with no talking BUT the parts with Mike and Nacho were awesome. You knew there would be slow parts with Chucks death. Poor poor Hamlin I feel the for the guy. He has a good heart but Chuck messed up Jimmys view of Howard. Chuck had to go when he did. Well timed by the writers. This season is gonna be rivalling the best Breaking Bad seasons I think.

Wynonna Earp - unapologetically cheesy at times, but that's what makes this how so fun. Season 1 is on Netflix with season 2 popping up at some point. Season 3 just started on Space. If you're a fan of Supernatural and/or Buffy then this show will appeal to you.

Dare Devil season 3 is going to happening sooner rather than later. I can't get into Luke Cage. Jessica Jones has it's moments but The Punisher was amazing.

Yeah, there seems to be some pretty hard stratification in that section of the Netflix catalogue

Daredevil

Punisher

Jessica Jones

Luke Cage (especially season 2)

Iron Fist (how did it get a second season)

I actually enjoyed Iron Fist more than Jessica Jones or Luke Cage (realizing it's super cheesy). I thought Punisher was a step or two higher than Daredevil as well. So good.

I watched season one Jessica Jones and it was ok. Couldn't get into season two. And I like Luke Cage's cameos on the other shows, but couldn't get past the first few episodes of his own show. The only one I didn't fully watch.

Truthfully, I liked the Punisher more than DD as well, hopefully the second season maintains or surpasses.  I grouped them together as I see them as equals.

I got lost on JJ about 5 episodes into Season 2.

Luke Cage Season 1 (first half) was OK, second half was a little much.  Second season couldn't keep my attention.

Caught up/watched entire catalogues on a few series over the summer/fall while I was overseas.

Homeland - Hit and miss.  When it hits, it hits hard, when it misses, it's a little tough to push through.  24 and Alias had similar problems.

Bates Motel - enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Walking Dead - Honestly, there is very little reason why I should like the show, but it manages to deliver

Wynona Earp - think I made it through two episodes, then it was "meh, next"

Altered Carbon - I don't know.  Liked the cast, liked the idea, didn't really grab me hard though

Stranger Things - it didn't grab me from the start, so it's sitting mostly unfinished

Daredevil S3 - Yeah, should have ended after Season 2

House of Cards, final season - Seemed to me like they wrote the season to include 2 or 3 more episodes, and just never delivered them, which honestly I think sold the show short.  I sat through to the final 10 minutes of the last episode going "How are they going to wrap all of this up in 10 minutes.", and it didn't really deliver.

After a quick search, it looks like the seasons of 20 episodes are broken into 2 mini-seasons of 20. So even though Season 5 debuted last year, the current run of episodes is the back half of season 5. Therefore, with season 6 beginning late this year, it's probable the final episodes will air in 2 years from now (Jan 2021). Still more time!!

It is similar, isn?t it?

If that is the case I will check it out...the preview didn't really sell me on it.

I did not want to watch it at all after seeing the preview. It came off as a Riverdale or Pretty Little Liars kind of thing (which my wife constantly watches).

It took other people to make me try it out and I really enjoyed it.

I watched the first 2 last night after football - it does look like it will be OK...and I had the same thoughts as you - another PLL type...some in our house (the girls) do watch those ones and I have walked into the room while on and it's a big "no thanks" from me...Honestly Riverdale just looks like trash to me.

After being bombarded with ads for Magnum PI, the Good Doctor and The Rookie all day Sunday - I just don't see the attraction to those shows - who watches them??

Yeah, I honestly cannot stand anything on cable anymore now that Netflix actually makes good original shows.

there is a townhouse type complex at 1401 wolever.  Corner of wolever and Denson pl.  I delivered a few hundred pizzas there in highschool. The postal code is accurate to the area where that address is.

Anyway, I really liked
Silicon Valley
Ozark
Billions
Travelers
Kidding
Baskets
Better call Saul

I'll have to check some of these other shows you people have mentioned. Never heard of some of them

I've watched the ones in bold and may get to Baskets eventually.

Some shows that I've enjoyed and haven't seen listed yet are;

Crashing (with Peter Holmes) - HBO
Barry - HBO
Escape at Dannemora - Crave
Bad Blood - Season 1 on Neflix, Season 2 on City
True Detective - Season 3 started last week - HBO
Santa Clarita Diet - Netlix

Just powered through the first few episodes of Project Blue Book on History. It's pretty much X-Files set in the 50s as the Cold War ramps up. Excellent series.

Watched both seasons of Goliath on Amazon.  Notwithstanding the fact the Billy Bob seemingly gets typecast into the "hopeless miserable drunk who ends up doing good" role, first season was excellent.  Second season was good, but a little bit out there.

Also watched Jack Ryan and the Widow (amazing how much TV you watch when you're on the road a lot).  Jack Ryan was really good, but I'm a fan of the books, so I may not be objective in that regard.  The Widow was OK for what it was, it's just not what I wanted it to be (Kate Beckinsale as the revenge seeking gun toting wife was what I was hoping for, and without ruining it for anyone who hasn't watched it, it wasn't that).

The Amazon stuff is interesting, as most of it seems to be written like standalone mini series, which both kind of works and kind of doesn't at the same time.

I have a Prime membership and only recently realized I get Amazon Video as part of that. I only quickly browsed their offerings. Some seem a little out there. If you have any other recommendations, I'm all ears, although I don't usually watch that much TV.

Jack Ryan and Bosch are good, both based on series novels.  The nice thing about Jack Ryan is it goes back before the books began, so it's not just an adaptation of something you may have already read.  I don't read a lot of the Harry Bosch series (Michael Connelly), so I can't say if it's just an adaptation.

Goliath, as noted above, is really good.

The Tick is alright, I preferred the original Fox comedy version.

The Widow reminds me of the movie Blood Diamond, only four times as long.

Haven't checked out the Julia Roberts series yet.

not sure if you get the same viewing options on your Prime subscription as we do down south but... I really enjoyed "Justified" and the tv series "Friday Night Lights"... both have multiple season, (Justified 6 seasons, FNL 5 seasons) but you don't have to keep looking for new series to watch, lol... loved them both and have watched both multiple times...

Without actually checking into it, it's a safe bet it's not the same as in the US (and probably not even close besides the Amazon Original Programming).

Amazon in Canada has some really weird rules/deficiencies which don't exist in the service platforms in other locations.  Point in case, Audible, an Amazon owned company, does not have a compatible app available in Canada for the any of the Echo/Fire products (even though it exists in the States and it exists on both Android and IOS platforms in Canada), so even though I have an Audible membership which shows up through my Amazon account, I can't play those items on either my Fire Tablet (which isn't a great unit to begin with, but it's fine for travelling to areas of the world where if it gets stolen I don't care) or on my Echo system at home.

while it's a great football oriented program revolving around a small town in Texax, the characters and the writing really make the show... full hearts, clear eyes, can't lose...  ;D

you know, I get why network TV was a problem and why there is separate programming between the US and Canada.... but the whole internet the firm lines drawn in the sand about viewing... just seems more than just a little silly.... or, if there is a legit reason for it, I can't really what the harm would be in ABC in the US working out an agreement to allow there programming to be viewed on both Netflix US and CA, but if you subscribe to one or the other, why couldn't you be allowed to pay maybe a couple bucks more and have access to both versions?

what really irks me though is this... when I come to Canada I can access my US apps that I have on my phone, because it thinks I'm still in the US based on the phone number I assume, yet I can't access the same app or service via my laptop... after all, I've paid for the service, or it's included in other services that I have paid for, why do they care where I'm physically watching it from?

What an up and down episode! I went from, "they got this" to "oh crap", to "okay they can turn this around" to "they're doomed" over and over. What an ending too! It all sets up for an interesting final 3 episodes. Do they go for Cersei right away or will there be some inner fighting before that happens (Jon and Danearys?)  Bring on next week!
Title: Re: Is there a better show on TV...
Post by: theaardvark on April 29, 2019, 04:02:22 PM
Can't see Jon and Daneris fighting, they will come to a quick decision whether Jon's claim is verifiable (too bad there is no "23 and me" or Jerry Springer), or Mother of Dragons deserves to rule based on what she has done to date... and they are only cousins, no reason there can't be a Joneris...

With the ships at her disposal, Cersi might bring the fight north.  If she does, I can see a dragon / blackwater bay annihilation of her and her troops.  So, logically, she should let them bring the battle to her.  But since when is she logical.  So that's up in the air.

They had dragon ice to kill the dead, what do they have to take Cersei on with?  Dragons, of course, but does she have anything else up her sleeve?  Will Bron actually earn his pay and kill Jamie and Tyrion?  Or will he just take the money and retire to an island of whores and wine?

Well Jon kills Daeneys. Arya is going to travel the world. Bran is the King of the 6 Kingdoms. Sansa is the Queen in the North, and will stay at Winterfell. Jon will live with the free folk for rest of his life. Little bit of a weak ending.

In 1983 or 84 one movie sent me on a self journey into the world of Karate that has continued ever since. The wisdom of Miyagi made the Karate Kid the best movie of the 80's imo. I currently am in love with the series Cobra Kai. It is an extremely well written series based on the life paths of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso. If you were a fan of the Karate Kid in the 80's and haven't seen this Youtube Original series yet, hurry up!! The first two seasons are excellent.

I actually don't mind where everyone ended up (sending Jon to the Night Watch was stupid, but he ended up with the free folk), but the path to get there was weak and rushed.

Well, according to your taste. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others don't & they obviously do. I'm no fan of Magnum PI either. I watched the very first episode in Sept 2018 & never watched it again. It's nothing like the 80's original series with Tom Selleck. Obviously there's a huge audience for the show. I think it averages 5 to 6 million viewers an episode in the US.

Started watching Jack Ryan on Prime. Only a few episodes in but it's pretty well done. Jim Halpert kicking butt!

That is 100% why i have avoided this show...I have watched and re-watched The Office so many times it just doesn't seem right to see Jim in that role.

I've got you beat bud. I have probably watched The Office in its entirety over a dozen times top to bottom. Even own the box set of the first 6 seasons in the days before Netflix. Watched most of season 2 today while trying to care for my sick baby.

Anyway, I share your reservations about the actors portraying any other character  ;D

The Witcher is awesome! The timeline is definitely confusing at times, though. I may watch it a second time once I get through the first season.

It's already on its last season but I got Amazon Prime a couple of months ago and started The Man In The High Castle yesterday. Pretty amazing series so far.

Finished the Witcher last night...what a great show!   I did watch a few YouTube clips after to help me fill in some of the pieces as I hadn't read any of the books.  Looking forward to season 2 but it won't be released until spring 2021...

No doubt - I have only watched it all the way through about 2 times but select episodes I have seen many times over.  Like most shows it takes a small dip after Micheal Scott leaves and the Robert California dude rolls in...still funny but just not the same.

Some just great characters though and will be a favorite for a long time.  Parks and Rec is a close second to the office.

Hope your little one is doing better...

One episode into The Witcher. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but not sure how the timelines are related yet... hoping it makes more sense soon.

Watched first season of Jack Ryan a while ago - really enjoyed it - but haven't had an easy time getting into season two.

I second that one.

I'm currently binging Succession. What a great show.

Some good shows that will be coming back this spring that I'm looking forward to; Barry, Fargo, Better Call Saul, Billions. The new season of Ozark should be out by summer time.

Forgot one; the last episodes of BoJack Horseman become available Jan 31st.

Killed off a few half series on the PVR over the holidays

All Rise - Actually not half bad.  Not big on courtroom dramas, and figured it was going to be a dog given that most of the cast falls under the "Actors you typically see on shows that don't get picked up for a second season", but it managed to enterain.

Prodigal Son - Liked it more than I expected.  It's a bit out there, and it feels like a Criminal Minds meets Hannibal kind of thing, but it works.

Goliath Season 3 - Really good show, and it's interesting how they tied the storylines of the two previous seasons back into it even though the stories themselves are divergent.  Just wish they'd cut back the "Billy Bob hallucinating" thing back by like 50%.

For how many commercials I have had to endure while watching the NFL playoffs, it better be the best **** show on TV.

And don't get me started on the new Rob Lowe 911 Austin or whatever. According to the amount of hype, it better shatter records for TV quality (it won't).

Hang in there GM with Peaky Blinders. The acting, characters, storylines and music is absolutely fantastic!

The dialogue is certainly a challenge, but if you read an online recap of each episode you just watched it definitely makes watching the follow up episode far more understandable and enjoyable.

Amazon Prime is darned good. Jack Ryan, The Man In The High Castle, Treadstone, Sneaky Pete, The Expanse (which used to be on Space, IIRC), Goliath, Hunters... There is a ton of quality content on there. And the perks on Amazon shopping only help its case. I'm glad I have it.

Interesting, I have sort of the opposite point of view. I've had Prime for years and love it, and see the TV component as a bonus complement. I actually went for years not thinking anything of Prime TV (it used to suck) but they've really upped their game to compete with Netflix. Since I'd be a sub anyway, Prime TV is literally a freebie to me, which is awesome.

White Lines proved to be a pretty good series on Netflix.  Kinda hoping there's a second season, ending seemed to indicate not, but there are characters that could carry forward.

My wife loved Sweet Magnolias.  Not my preferred option, but given that new TV is getting harder to find, it was more than bearable.

Dark Side of the Ring has been excellent this season, and Chris Jericho narrating was perfect.  The Owen Hart episode should win some kind of award, though I know it won't.  It was sadly magnificent, and did a fantastic job in presenting the whole situation from the families point of view, not the industries.  It was intelligent and articulate, and seeing Jim Cornette actually choke up was something I didn't think was possible, and was a very powerful moment.  That, and this season was had a lot of Canadian content (Benoit, Bravo, Hart).  You don't have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it, though it certainly helps.

The Great on Amazon Prime/Hulu was brilliant.  Reminiscent of Monty Python/Mel Brooks material, only without the over the top stupidity of some of the parts of History of the World Part 1.  Some of the humour is very overt, while some is very subtle.  Loosely based on the life of Catherine the Great, apparently its intention is to run a multi season series, so here's hoping they do.

Huzzah!

Speaking of English shows... I tried watching Bulletproof but only managed to get halfway through the first episode. It looks like a good show but when you can't understand what they're saying half the time it really takes away from it. It's like watching a movie with subtitles when they people are talking a lot, your constantly reading the subtitles and miss what's actually happening on the show/movie.

So I'm kind of a nerd and watch factual/educational type stuff on Youtube, and one of the ads was for a stream platform specifically for documentaries called CuriosityStream https://curiositystream.com/ (https://curiositystream.com/)

Has anyone else every heard of this? It's NetFlix for documentaries only, which for me personally is right up my alley. Dirt cheap, too at $3 a month or $20 for a year. The Youtube video where I saw the ad gave their channel's promo for a month free, so I signed up today. Just had a look through the titles and given my specific taste, I would be happy to cancel Netflix and just watch this for my fixes.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. If anyone wants to get it and get a free month, the promo code was "knowledgia".

What shows are you binging or counting down the days until the next episode is available?

For me I recently binged Ozark and it did not disappoint.
