Eastern Semi-Final - Blue Bombers at Argonauts
Oct 30, 2026 - Ed Tait

They referenced 'clean slates' roughly 4,873 times, trotted out the standard 'everybody starts at zero' refrain and must have been oh-so tempted to get their mitts on one of those 'Neuralyzer' memory eraser things from Men in Black.

Make no mistake, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers fully understand their 2026 regular season was hardly the stuff of legend. Instead, their tease-you-then-confound-you 9-9 record slotted them into fourth spot in the Canadian Football League's West Division and has them heading to Toronto this weekend to face the Argonauts as the crossover team for the Eastern Semi-Final.

Yes, here we are with the Blue Bombers in the Grey Cup derby for a 10th straight season with lingering questions but also more than a puncher's chance against an Argos squad which also finished 9-9 and really rallying around the clean-slate theme.

Shocking to me.  Zach on the one game so he must really be unable to go. Not expecting to win but I think we still have a chance. I just keep thinking Kelly/Arbuckle vs Brown/Elgersma... they have a big edge here.

The truth is we are probably losing this game regardless of who is at quarterback. Still think the better shot at good QB play is Dru Brown getting hot versus Collaros regaining his youth.

Official: Dru Brown to start East Semi-Final for Winnipeg Blue Bombers
By John Hodge - Oct 30, 2026

It's official: Dru Brown will start at quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the East Semi-Final on Saturday. The team unveiled its depth chart on Friday morning.

The 29-year-old took first-team reps in practice this week, as Zach Collaros was mostly a non-participant due to a ribs injury.

Last week, Brown completed 11-of-11 pass attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns in a relief effort to lead the Blue Bombers to a 34-10 victory over the B.C. Lions. The victory clinched a spot in the playoffs.

The native of Palo Alto, Calif. made six starts during the regular-season, posting a 2-4 record. He completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 1,687 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Two of Brown's starts came against in the Argonauts, and he threw for 532 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions against the Double Blue, going 1-1.

After not participating in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, Collaros was a limited participant in a closed practice on Thursday. He was officially listed as questionable for Saturday's game at BMO Field but will not dress as he's been moved to the one-game injured list.

Winnipeg has made only one change to the starting lineup, as Jonathan Moxey will start at field-side cornerback over Trey Vaval. Moxey made 11 starts at the position this year, recording 18 defensive tackles, one special teams tackles, seven pass knockdowns, and one interception.

The Blue Bombers have also listed receiver Nic Demski as a game-time decision. After being a full participant in practice on Tuesday, he was a non-participant on Wednesday and Thursday. The 32-year-old caught 66 passes for 825 yards and six touchdowns this season.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-9) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (9-9) for the East Semi-Final at BMO Field on Saturday, October 31 with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET. The teams met twice during the regular-season and split the meetings 1-1.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 680 CJOB in Winnipeg and TSN 1050 in Toronto.

When is Demski ever not listed as a GTD? I suspect he'll play but he's not been 100% for most of the year. The final roster shuffle has been completed.

I don't understand the movement process where Peterson is moved from PR to AR and finally to IR. Same issue with Dixon moved around and finally ending up on reserve. There must be a cleaner way to make a one step transaction.

Novak was moved from the AR to PR and back to AR.  Hansen was moved to PR and back to AR.

It's interesting that Ayers could have been activated but we choose to retain Jenkins on the roster. That's not a complaint but a question about how are they making these decisions.

Moxey back as a starter at CB.

Headed to the airport in a couple hours. Dru has to play like last week. Pressure on Kelly, and limit to no turnovers.

Agree. The bookies are normally a good barometer and the odds have moved from Toronto -150 to -225 today so you know where the money's going.

You're correct! I don't know there's a world in which we can get over the mountain in Montreal but this game is winnable. Wouldn't bet on it but wouldn't be shocked. Win or lose, it's going to be whether the defense can actually play a good playoff game and whether the offensive line can hold up.

I have to ask given I do not gamble! What does -150 to -225 mean? Does it mean that Toronto is favored and to win your bet the Argos have to win by a certain amount of points?? Sorry never placed a bet so not sure how these numbers work.

In any event I will watch the game but am not expecting the Bombers to win.

Just a straight up win for the moneyline. -225 means you need to bet $225 to win $100. If it was +225 a bet of $100 would win $225.

So and forgive me for asking does this change mean that the Argos are now favored to win more so that the previously? I have never placed a sports bet so just curious.

So, does the Million Dollar Man, having secured his future, have anything to play for?

I think giving him the cash now takes the fire out of him fighting for that next contract and getting teams to bid for his services.

Don't blame him for taking the ridiculous offer, far more than anyone else would bid.

Need to get him off his game early, get in his face, get some sacks / knock downs / ints, make him hesitate a split second.

Much as there are a lot of players that can make a difference this game, I think Kelly is the key.

The "Line" I quoted is called the Money Line meaning no points are given. The -225 means that if you bet $225.00 on Toronto to win and they did, you would win $100.00. Alternatively the Winnipeg "Money Line is currently at +185 meaning that a $100.00 bet on Winnipeg to win would win you $185.00.

I'm conflicted as my heart is with Winnipeg but my money is on Toronto.

Toronto Argonauts short top special teams ace for East Semi-Final
October 30, 2026

The Toronto Argonauts appear to be a picture of health ahead of their East Semi-Final matchup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

As expected, starting quarterback Chad Kelly will celebrate his new $5.5 million payday in style and make his return to the lineup after missing the regular-season finale with a knee injury. The 32-year-old has not been limited in practice this week and is reportedly at full strength.

While Canadian rookie Isaiah Smith is listed as the starter in the backfield, Cameron Porter will also be back in the fold and is expected to see significant reps. The Northwestern product appeared in just one game for the Argos, carrying the ball seven times for 31 yards and a touchdown. Fullback Jack Cassar will also be available this week.

The biggest changes will come on defence and special teams. Derek Slywka, the team's top special teamer with 19 tackles in that phase, will sit out with a shoulder injury suffered last week. The second-year man had also been a frequent rotational contributor on defence, making 37 defensive tackles, a sack, and two forced fumbles. The recently acquired Vi Jones will provide depth and insurance.

Dathan Hickey will get the start at field cornerback after suiting up in four previous contests, making five total tackles and a pass breakup. Louis-Philippe Gauthier is listed as a backup and Nic Toomer has been returned to the practice roster.

Receiver Dymere Miller and offensive lineman Brandon Kemp will begin the postseason on the reserve roster. In addition to Slywka, receivers Nolan Ulm and Jake Herslow, as well as defensive lineman Ali Fayad are on the one-game injured list.

The Toronto Argonauts (9-9) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-9) for the East Semi-Final at BMO Field on Saturday, October 31, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET. The teams met twice during the regular season and split the meetings 1-1.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 680 CJOB in Winnipeg and TSN 1050 in Toronto.

That doesn't make much sense, Kelly is a competitive player, the Bombers are going to have a hard time constraining his enthusiasm for  playing football tomorrow.

Kelly along with his agent negotiated their huge salary bump and the Argos agreed with obvious disregard to their balance sheet. What burns me is they're likely using revenue sharing payments from the Bombers and Riders to dangerously distort the QB market at a time when a few teams look to be in financial peril.

Not sure how revenue sharing works. Does this imply that revenues from the Bombers and Riders are shared throughout the league. Is there any site that explains how this works? I was wondering how the Argos could afford paying Kelly what they will be paying him given their low attendance etc. Guess the league as a whole is paying the bill!

have they disclosed  how much of the infamous marketing money makes up the cap?
In terms of affordability because of the cap it just means that they find savings elsewhere.
While having a elite qb is great, it will impact who they can bring in around him.

No explanations are offered when it comes to financial arrangements, none of our business.  Empty stadiums across the league and 7 out of 9 teams losing money equates to the salary cap going up, can't quite figure how that one works. I am beginning to suspect Russian gambling consortium and money laundering are involved and I ain't even joking.

Moxey back as a starter at CB.

I suspect all the shuffling has to do with contract status and following league rules, it's not just a matter of moving player's name from one list to another, it kicks in a different contract status to do so.

Back in the day they had to put a player on waivers before transferring between the AR and the PR so any other interested team could claim them in that transition period. Gladly that feature has been eliminated, but I'm sure the transfer of status still makes a difference to the players weekly pay cheque.

Last game Lawson stood on the sideline all game but did not play, I did notice Jenkins playing a lot more DT in that case and he seemed to be more effective in that role than he has been as a pass rusher. He's a high energy guy so he might be able to stick if he can adjust his game in that direction.

How does Toronto afford to pay Chad Kelly this big salary with the attendance for the games in Toronto last couple of years?  No wonder this league is not going survive with paying one player this amount of money.

Interesting... TOR struggling to meet 7 NATs.  So they put Ready (??) at WR and Coxie as the 25-snap guy.  I guess with their sling-it O they may not have a ton of O snaps... but if we can force them to go possession we can knock Coxie out of the game after his 25!

Their 11-IMP-starters D should be pretty stout.  However, if Kongbo gets injured they might be in some doodoo.  Lemon will be the DNA so he can get 25 snaps in for Kongbo.

Because they are heavily using the DNA cheat code, they will effectively be 12 IMP on D most of the game, and likewise 3 IMP REC.

Remember... we could have been using that same cheat code the first half of the season to get Singer on the field "for free"!  But then we wouldn't get the extra 2RDP...

No Russians required.  One word: DAZN

As for TOR, they are betting either the DAZN cap increase happens in FA27 and thus they don't care what they paid Kelly.  OR at worst the cap increase is delayed a season (technically CBA can't get their cut until the money is actualized?), in which case TOR has a year of complete suckage as they won't have any money leftover; but THEN they will be in the pound seats in '28 as everyone scrambles to get a good QB.

Once the DAZN money is here, EVERY top QB who is up for re-signing is going to get $1M.  I said this months ago in the DAZN thread.  No one believed me....

Basically yes.  I think of it like the Canada fed-gov equalization payments to provinces.  Take from the "haves", send to the "have nots".  And just like with fedgov/Canada, there's very few "haves" in the CFL.  It's basically just us.  Hopefully SSK did better$$ than last year so they can chip in again.

As for Kelly, you're conflating 2 issues... In the CFL there's "real" money and "cap money".  No one really cares about real money.  The equalization payments help out, the TSN/DAZN money helps out, and if there's still shortfalls the rich owners pay for it.  They all have the option to spend way less than the cap -- but they NEVER do.  Never believe CFL teams when they cry "poor".

The real question about Kelly is not "where do they get the real money" that goes into Kelly's pocket -- no one cares about that.  Nope, the real question is "how are they affording this within the cap"?  And the answer to that is: DAZN wildly increasing the cap very shortly.

-/+ odds are so confusing.  Most sites (especially Canadian ones) allow you to use "decimal odds".  These are so much easier for noobs to grok.  With decimal you just take the decimal shown and multiply it by your bet and that's what you'll have if you win... INCLUDING your original bet.

So if WPG is 2.25 then 100 gets you 225: 125 win plus 100 original bet.

With the WPG/TOR example above the numbers would math out to 2.25 WPG, 1.50 TOR.  (I haven't checked what the current odds are.)

Does the league still have the rule where a Nationalized American can replace a injured starting Canadian?

Ready could go down with an "injury" so that Coxie could play unlimited snaps.

I think TOR will come out with a heavy ground game.  This would throw us for a loop, just like Salter's all-pass first drive did.  We aren't very good at instant adjustment.

Add in the fact we're notoriously bad against the run.  Just attack our edges.  And throw hitch screens on us all night.  We suck at stopping those.

The question is, will Kelly & their OC be patient enough to dink & dunk us?  If it's a big air show I think our DBs will nab a couple.  I would assign a spy to Kelly just like we do Ford et al... not to stop him running past the LoS, but to keep him harangued when he scrambles sideline to sideline.

No?  Pretty sure no matter what he can only get the 25 snaps.  Now, he could also come in after that for Kahmann or Polk... but they couldn't be +1 IMPs anymore.

Well, for the first time in a long time I'm not following the team on the road in the playoffs.  Still have a bad taste from the MTL ESF last year.

Maybe it'll be good luck me not going this time!  I was at all of those cup losses...

If we make it to the EDF maybe I'll go to that.  However, PTSD in Molson... not sure I want that smoke again.  Still, would be epic to stick it to Alexander in his home stadium!

Quote from: Tecno on October 30, 2026, 10:39:51 PMNo Russians required.

It's fairly easy to connect the dots between DAZN and the Russians as it was originally formed by a Russian oligarch and is currently run by another under a registered British subsidiary, most likely to keep Putin's hands from squeezing their throats.

A side venture of DAZN besides running gambling sites is their association with Umar Kremlev president of the International Boxing Association and a close associate of Donald Trump Jr. a fan of MMA who helped promote the fight card on the White House lawn.

It's hard to believe the corruption that is currently enveloping and threatening society from nefarious sources, all these weasels are connected together and it seems the CFL may be stepping into waters well over their heads.

Stewart Johnson: "Oh look guys all our problems are solved, some Russians thugs just offered us free money, whipeeee!"

Whatever could go wrong?

Interesting that Luke Wilson will have both the CFL commissioner and Bob Irving as guests for this watch-along.

UPDATE! On the @Film_Never_Lies "Watch-Along" for CFL east Semi!

Starting at 12:30 pregame, 1:08 kick off. TSN 2!!! @TSN_Sports

@chavisdavis7 on early, the Commish at 1/2, @BobIrvingCJOB in the 3rd qtr!

What does it mean that TSN is offering this broadcast on one of their stations?  I've stumbled upon watch-alongs before and it seems like a really bizarre way to watch a game.

Okay please explain, on a few levels.  Watch-along?  Is this an audio broadcast simultaneous to the game, sort of like watching the game on TSN and listening to CJOB?

Second - how is Willson having Bob Irving on as a guest?  I've said before I am actually impressed with Willson's color commentary but also can't stand how he was going after Bob online incessantly.  So has something changed?

Not 100% sure, but likely with a split screen showing the game and the guests, kind of like a video game playthrough. Kind of doubt Bob and Luke will be broadcasting from the same location.
