Toronto Argonauts demote Samuel Hicks against Hamilton Tiger-Cats
by 3Down Staff August 21, 2026
The Toronto Argonauts have demoted running back Samuel Hicks to the practice roster ahead of their game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday evening. The team released its official depth chart on Friday morning.
The five-foot-nine, 190-pound ball-carrier has rushed 65 times for 383 yards, made 22 catches for 165 yards, and scored four touchdowns this season. This is his first professional stint after playing collegiately at Saddleback College, Central Michigan, and Abilene Christian University.
The 25-year-old will be replaced in the starting lineup by Isaiah Smith, the team's second-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft.
The native of Burlington, Ont. has rushed 31 times for 116 yards and caught six passes for 77 yards so far this season. He played collegiately at the University of Guelph, where he rushed for 1,060 yards, made 41 receptions for 469 yards, and scored nine touchdowns.
Toronto will also dress running back Qualan Jones in a depth role. The CFL rookie has been on Toronto's practice roster all season.
The five-foot-ten, 242-pound ball-carrier finished his collegiate career at Stephen F. Austin University, where he rushed for 798 yards, caught 13 passes for 80 yards, and scored eight touchdowns. He previously played at Baylor University, where he rushed for 689 yards, caught 37 passes for 192 yards, and scored nine touchdowns.
In addition to the change at running back, Toronto will be without the services of Canadian defensive lineman Paris Shand, who has been placed on the one-game injured list with an oblique issue. Rookie Gabriel Maisonneuve, who was signed earlier this week as insurance, will make his CFL debut behind Jonathan Kongbo, who is playing despite a foot injury that caused him to miss two days of practice.
Backup defensive backs Alex Teubner (hamstring) and Ethan John (ankle) are both slated to make their return from injury in the secondary. American defensive back Dathan Hickey and National linebacker Jalen Rayam have both been demoted to the practice roster in a corresponding move.
The Toronto Argonauts (4-5) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-6) at BMO Field on Saturday, August 22, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Tiger-Cats are coming off a 26-19 upset win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while the Argonauts got blown out by the Edmonton Elks by a score of 42-12.
The weather forecast in Toronto calls for a high of 23 degrees and a 40 percent chance of rain. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on the Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton or TSN 1050 in Toronto.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats name Tre Ford starting QB, Harrison Frost remains on roster despite back injury
by 3Down Staff August 21, 2026
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have listed Tre Ford as their starting quarterback for Saturday's clash with the Toronto Argonauts.
Ford came off the bench in the second half of the team's 26-19 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 11, completing 13-of-17 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown, a spectacular 41-yard bomb to Keric Wheatfall to give Hamilton the lead. He added four carries for 38 yards on the ground.
The Canadian pivot had previously started three games for the Ticats in the absence of franchise QB Bo Levi Mitchell and helped secure a victory in the team's last meeting with the Argos, but was benched before halftime in Week 9 due to inconsistent play. So far this season, Ford has completed 61-of-90 passes for 650 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, while rushing 25 times for 270 yards.
Harrison Frost, who replaced Ford as the starter, was forced out of the game with a back injury. He has been a limited participant in practice this week, but remains on the game-day roster in a backup capacity. He has completed 41-of-69 passes for 516 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions this season.
Third-stringer Jake Dolegala, who started one game for the team prior to Ford's initial insertion, is the only other quarterback on the roster.
Besides the swap at QB, the Tabbies' only other changes take place at defensive tackle. Mario Kendrick Jr., who has recorded 13 defensive tackles and two sacks, has been placed on the one-game injured list due to an ankle issue. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by rookie defensive tackle De'Jon Benton. Canadian backup Charbel Dabire is making his return from an arm injury, which has caused Aamarii Notice to be demoted to the practice roster.
The largest return for Hamilton could take place on the sidelines, where head coach Scott Milanovich is expected to be on Saturday after being absent all week due to a personal matter. Further information regarding his status has not been made available.

Game delay due to weather
TOR vs. HAM has been delayed due to lightning in the area. Expected kickoff time is at 8:05pm ET.
Ya, make sure you extend your PVR by about 75 mins. Not sure if TSN will try to reduce ads in order to get the game done sooner.
Mother nature didn't cooperate with CNE and argos game day. Oh well, that's what you get for living on a huge lake. Crowd is actually decent now for such a wet game, guess they are still giving away free tickets with the CNE.

First commandment of Tv broadcasting
Thou shalt not reduce ads.

Well, they started 1h8m late, and they started the 4th exactly 2h in. That's for sure sped up. Halftime seemed to be reduced a few mins too. Which I always find odd since the rule book precisely spells out all halftimes must be 16 minutes. But maybe there's another rule about rain delay exceptions.
Boring wet game. But at least they got the game in, and the lightning held off. Rain started again early in the 4th? Nasty.
Ford doing Ford things. If anything a wet slippery field favors him. Surprised neither team is running very much.
Kelly doing Kelly things (INTs). Best catch was that Kahmann diving one earlier.
We should be able.to.finish ahead of.Hamilton in the east

Ford doesn't even look dynamic anymore, he looks confused most of the time.

That's milanovich messing with him, he knows if he does tre ford scramble stuff milanovich will bench him. Sad really. Take your first read and your second read if nothing is there, go make something happen. Making him stay in the pocket is a mistake
