Saskatchewan Roughriders place Tevaughn Campbell, Kian Schaffer-Baker on six-game injured list

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have placed Canadian cornerback Tevaughn Campbell and receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker on the six-game injured list ahead of Friday's matchup with Ottawa.
Campbell suffered a forearm injury in the team's Week 9 victory over Edmonton. In seven games this season, the 33-year-old had amassed 16 defensive tackles. He was an All-CFL selection in 2025 and led the league in interceptions after making his return to Canada after an extended stint in the NFL.
Nelson Lokombo, who has started games at both safety and boundary halfback this season, will start in place of Campbell at field corner in order to maintain the ratio. Rookie Canadian Malcolm Bell will continue to serve as the primary backup, while American Seyi Oladipo Jr. will dress for added depth in the secondary.
Schaffer-Baker is out after suffering a knee injury against the Elks. The 28-year-old has registered 45 catches for 704 yards with four touchdowns in seven regular-season games in 2026. The Guelph product has an extensive injury history, underwent offseason hip surgery in 2023, which caused him to miss the first 10 weeks that year, and was sidelined for 13 games in 2025 due to a foot injury.
With fellow Canadian pass catcher Samuel Emilus slated to miss a second consecutive contest due to a foot injury and also added to the six-game injured list, rookie second-round pick Dylan Djete will draw into the lineup and make his first career start. Local product D'Sean Mimbs will take over in the slot for Daniel Wiebe, who remains on the roster as a returner.
Fullback Albert Awachie (ankle) is the final addition to the six-game injured list, while American defensive back James Burgess Jr. has been returned to the practice roster. Canadian offensive lineman Darius Bell and defensive lineman Liam Hoskins will dress instead. American linebacker Josh Woods, the team's starter on the weakside, has been listed as a game-time decision with an ankle injury.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-2) host the Ottawa Redblacks (0-7) at Mosaic Stadium on Friday, August 7, with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Redblacks suffered a 34-13 loss to the Montreal Alouettes last week, while the Riders defeated Edmonton 28-26.
The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 620 CKRM in Regina or TSN 1200 in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Redblacks have decided to start CFL rookie Cade McDonald in Eugene Lewis' vacated receiver spot against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 10.
The 33-year-old Lewis was released last Sunday after the team dropped to 0-7. General manager and head coach Ryan Dinwiddie said the veteran pass catcher wasn't a fit with Ottawa.
The 25-year-old McDonald has dressed for six regular season games during his first year in the three-down league. He has recorded eight receptions for 55 yards with one touchdown, which came against the Riders at TD Place in Week 5.
Meanwhile, veteran Canadian offensive lineman Drew Desjarlais has been moved to the one-game injured list with a foot issue; Sam Carson starts in his left guard spot for the Redblacks.
In the secondary, American Demerio Houston moves to boundary cornerback after Shakur Brown was released, and Shadwel Nkuba II starts at field cornerback. The 24-year-old CFL rookie dressed in one regular season game, Week 3 against the Toronto Argonauts, and registered two defensive tackles.

It's a little weird to associate the HC and snapping the ball. I'm gonna assume that it's not something most HC's spend a lot of time doing.
Why is everyone so stupid? It's the Rempel rule! Head up or down has nothing to do with anything.

You don't see it? It's everything. Yes, the HC is responsible when every other play has some unforgivable botch, like a rb running into the snap. Week after week.
The cfl's dumb rules on practice is also to blame. That's also hurting us. It makes it so good, oiled teams stay good and bad teams with no gel can't get better.

It wasn't a penalty. Snapper takes steps to block and runs into Rider, who is already in that lane. The rider didn't go into the snapper's lane; it was the other way around.

It is. Since they added the Rempel rule any time a LS gets trucked and their head flies back into the turf it is a penalty. It has been in every single instance since the Rempel rule was introduced.

I just checked the rule to be sure and there is zero mention of head position or anything. It just says you can't truck a vulnerable LS.
Watch what all other teams do vis a vis long snappers. The entire line is taught to basically not touch him. And the long snappers are taught to do nothing more than act like ST personal protectors, just putting their arms out to lightly block rushers.
Every other team gets it, but sometimes players forget it. What's sad is mace and everyone at tsn don't know any of this.

Tell me how the long snapper can move into the rushing players' lane and still be in a "vulnerable position and unable to protect themself." The answer is he can't. Once the LS gets his head up and makes a move, the rule doesn't apply.

In so many ways the OTT o is like ours. They wait so long to decide and throw that every d has more than enough time to figure it out and close in.
There are no timing routes. No blind throws. No trusting your recs to do their jobs.
Nope, both teams get the ball, sit and survey the field and throw to the least worst option and hope the db hasn't already gotten there.
Then look at SSK. When they are good, they are max dink and dunk, and EVERY throw is a timing throw that gives the d zero time to react. The only way you can stop ssks o is if you 100 percent guess the top reads presnap, or get in the lanes, or somehow get to the qb in less than 2 seconds.
We do it exactly like OTT, no matter our qb. And the CFL d's are just too good now for that to work.
So next week is just gonna come down to who sucks less. If both dru and Zach are out, I'll put money on OTT. And btw, OTT might start mbt next week, and we always always lose against no-current-film qbs. It's our raison d'etre.

We haven't played good football in a month, if ever this year. Ottawa wants to end the ofer season they are having and we 'll likely accommodate them. We had a history of losing to weak teams when we were the top of the league, now we 're at the bottom and soon to be embarrassed yet again.
I was hoping the Redblacks would defeat the Riders which would have helped the Bombers in the standings race eventually.
Regardless we need to start winning games. Now we have to face beating the Redblacks that will be dangerous playing for their jobs. All the stops will be pulled out.

MBT is not the future either so a switch at QB is unlikely. Besides it's their defence that is their biggest problem.

It's because they have perfected like 2 to 3 timing routes for the lesser recs, routes that are basically unstoppable and guarantee 3y yac, and give zero time for pass rush.
The recs can be hot garbage nats, but they have to be able to master just those couple of routes. And clearly almost every pro rec can do it.
So you can have 3 or so recs on El and it doesn't matter. Your better recs can do the more complicated routes to keep d's honest.
It's one of the most brilliant gm/hc strategies I've ever seen. The synergy between gm/hc is impressive.
Just watch those quick curl or slants where Trevor will throw to the side that can get more yac. The rec doesn't even have to peek because the throw tells them what way to go. And they are already moving when the ball hits their hands. Even though every pass is like 4y down field, they invariably get 2 to 7 yac.
It economizes so much about your team. It's brilliant. I don't think Wpg will have any answer for it, and our attempts at duplicating it are pitiful.
