Title: Winnipeg Jets Discussion - 2026/27 season
Post by: blue_gold_84 on June 17, 2026, 04:48:16 PM
Jets preseason schedule (https://illegalcurve.com/winnipeg-jets-2026-27-preseason-schedule/)

Quote...teams will play just four exhibition games instead of the six they previously played. The reduction comes as the NHL expands the regular season from 82 to 84 games.

Sept. 19 – Jets at Oilers (7 pm CT)
Sept. 21 – Jets vs Avalanche (7 pm CT)
Sept. 22 – Jets vs Oilers (7 pm CT)
Sept. 25 – Jets at Avalanche (7:30 pm CT)

We expect the full NHL schedule to be released in July.

Jets re-sign F Rosen to two-year deal (https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/article/jets-lock-up-rfa-rosen-on-two-year-deal/)

$925K AAV

Vegas is in Cap hell with under $5.M and only 15 signed.

So perhaps Chevy might be able to get B. Howden cheap
His AAV is under $3.M, folks live in Oakbank, and he can play C.

So rumours still are out there about our 33 yr old goalie

If Buffalo is interested, will Chevy be asking for young
forward Josh Doan, under $7.M aav, as part of a package.

Linking this to the report of his father, and former Jet, Shane Doan, being brought in for the tour in early June. Read that Jets are speaking about an assistant to Chevy and it would be a win for the organization on both fronts, IMO.

Trading a guy with a team friendly deal does not get you out of cap hell.

But trading a Dorofeyev is a good start.

Maybe Mark Stone to Winnipeg?  That gives them $9.5 mil in cap, and solves our 2C problem until Bjorck in ready...

Anyone like Carter Hart or Aidan Hill?

Wow, Twitter has some "new info"?

jeff@NikSmiith

Sources say Connor Hellebuyck has withdrew his trade request from the Winnipeg jets after seeing Viggo Bjork be drafted by the jets.

He also said he would rather play in Winnipeg than Buffalo.

Very happy for Gusty and do hope he makes their roster

Really don't care what Helleybuck said, he's said enough already to rock the boat. I want guys who want to be here, not guys who publically rant and pout in the press. I get you're upset, but that stuff gets said behind closed doors with the GM

Mark Stone is a winger.

And hard pass on either of those netminders, but especially the former.

Much like the media who blew this out of proportion, this seems like an overblown reaction to what Hellebuyck actually said (https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/article/it-felt-very-wrong-hellebuyck-disappointed-after-jets-take-step-back-in-tough-season/) back in April. Cheveldayoff also stated more in-depth discussions were had behind closed doors, so I don't think it's fair to cast aspersions. He's not the only player who's expressed frustration at the end of a failed season, either.

And whether he cares to admit it or not, he was part of the problem last season, putting up the worst statistics of his NHL career.

FWIW, he also pulled this nonsense three years ago before he and Scheifele signed their current contracts.

I gotta say that Olympic gold medal really seems to have gone to the heads of some of those US players (see Larkin, Tkachuk, Hughes). The entitlement is ridiculous but sadly, kind of unsurprising.

Comrie is a good backup and has been remunerated as such. Skinner is a seasoned netminder who is more of a 1B than a backup, and has also been remunerated as such. I'm not sure it's an apples and apples comparison and this could help with Hellebuyck's workload moving forward.

The Jets still have around $10.6M in cap space with only Perfetti and Bauer left to re-sign.

This signing seems to have flown under the radar. Looks like a decent addition to the blue line.

Went to the Prospect camp on Thursday
V. Bjorck was most definitely fun to watch. His movements on the ice are just so effortless.
Very high in the quick thought process and anticipation of co-skaters was good

Also fans gotta be excited for a real up and comer in Kieron Walton.  He was great vs any challenges out there

Definitely felt young Kevin He was also my 3rd choice for having a good day. Much like Bjorck, NHL calibre for sure

Barlow and Yager, who I like in both, struggled to rise above today

More than the normal ELC, or has it gone up with the cap increase?

So much conjecture out there as to whether he starts with the big club, slots right into the 2C, or marinates a little with the Moose, and doesn't use up his 10 games.

I vote for starts with the club at 2C.  Not worried about "rushing him", he's been playing against men already, and doing well.  Sure, its not NHL level competition, but its still playing against big bodies and not getting pushed around.

I think this is going to be the pick of the draft, that he will be making a quick and important contribution.

OK, giraffe in the room.

Logan Stanley.  What are his agent's holding out for?  If he was available at a reasonable term and price, can he come back?  Would you sign him to a one year $2.5mil "I'm betting on me" contract?  If you did, would he get a chance to show his value.  Is he a good stopgap as our young D develop, or are we past that point?  Would it allow us to move a top 4 Dman in a trade?

Boumedienne and Freij are both nowhere near ready yet. The former hasn't even signed his ELC and the latter's barely even cut his teeth in the AHL. I wouldn't even count those two in the Jets discussion at this time.

I don't see the correlation you're trying to make. With that said, I don't expect the Jets to sign Stanley, anyway.

Boumedienne is at Ohio State U., which he chose to do, stalling his signing an ELC.  The Jets did have him at their Development Camp recently.

In my eyes the top 4 on D. is JMo, Pionk, Samberg, Ferraro.
Salomonsson, when healthy and DeMelo are next
Fleury will likely remain as the 7th d-man.
Stanley is certainly not likely to be signed $2M.+ to sit
up in our Press Box.

Feeling this is very decent for him, Perfetti.

For Chevy and the Jets, it means recommitment from Cole and hopefully a real
great result on the ice. If not, then the AAV in trade talks is usually
manageable, unless he is a total non factor going forward

Walton and He won't be ready and Yager may still be a long shot

You know all the players on the roster. It's very likely that the Bjork line isn't going to be handling top minutes to begin with anyway, regardless of if he's ready or not, so you probably will see the Lowry line a lot to begin the season. Then you hope so see the transition of minutes over the course of the year.

One season does not a career make. And contract negotiations certainly wouldn't happen based on a single season, either.

After his most productive season in 2024-25, he had a down year last season dealing with an injury and it took some time for him to get going. That was exacerbated by team's struggles to find offense outside of the top line, particularly with the second line that never got going.

Danielle Bain's article from yesterday covers a lot of ground: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/article/perfetti-embracing-expectations-that-come-with-new-contract/

I'm not sure what you expected he'd re-sign for but I don't think your expectation aligns with the reality of today's NHL. On paper this is a pretty good deal for him and the team.

Jets prospect D Freij leaving SHL early to begin North American career (https://illegalcurve.com/winnipeg-jets-prospect-alfons-freij-leaving-shl-early-to-begin-north-american-career/)

Should be a mainstay with the Moose this upcoming season.

Yes, JMo44 should have a nice payday
Thinking about $10.M a.a.v. for another 5 years.
