Positive momentum is building towards CFL expansion in Quebec City, according to a new report. The tentative plan, which has yet to be formalized or presented to the government, would see the construction of a 25,000-seat open-air stadium on the site of the Colisée de Québec, the previous home of the NHL's Quebec Nordiques. That venue has been closed since 2015 and is slated for demolition in 2027, opening up prime real estate beside the Centre Vidéotron.

The cost of this new facility is estimated at $350 million, and it could be completed by 2030.

While Bouchard made clear that the idea was a long way from final approval, he indicated that prospective investors have already travelled to Toronto to meet with CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston and that the league is in the process of vetting them. One source working within the league told the commentator that they had complete confidence that Quebec City expansion would take place. A potential name for the franchise was even floated: L'Attaque de Québec.

LOL, nice inflation since the IGF build around 2012, eh?  Even with all the cost overruns, we got a great deal!  And we're 33500, not piddly 25k!

BC spent more than that on upgrades for FIFA. I'm not sure what else they really did besides real grass and some other things that needed upgrades.

With all the poo pooing about the IGF build being "too much money for the city/province", I always thought it was a bargain, and each time we see a new stadium proposed or renos to an old one, it just makes it a better deal.

My only quibble with the original IGF plan was that an potential enclosing element was not included.  I'm sure they can retrofit some sort of hybrid "golf dome" kind of canopy rigging, but it would have been so cool if they had included the retrofit in the original design.

That would come at a crazy upcharge, add roof material, maintenance and rapid deterioration plus all the extra air handling equipment, for sure they'd want to heat it! Leave it alone, it's good for another 100 years.

I'm sure the cost would be excessive, and the upgrades to the electrical and gas services would be needed for fans/heating.

But then its a 365 day event centre.  If the changeover is easy enough, you can drop it in spring, and put it back up for GC, concerts, winter classic, etc.  I have no idea how the economics worked for the BC Place renos, maybe their market is just that much bigger than ours to host more winter events.

Are playing getting injured this much, this early or are teams just putting most players onto 6 game IR until they can practice?

Alford can still be dangerous, his age and health make teams hesitant to sign him but he averaged a career high 28.3 yds on kick off returns last season at the age of 34 but he only lasted 11 games.

He's not as good as Crum and I know nothing about their 3rd string guy Anthony Brown Jr. you think it would be a minor upgrade at best. I am wondering about Alexander's hamstring now.

Hamilton will have to win with what they have for now. I am sure they are beating the bushes today. Wilson wouldn't have been an upgrade for them except at 3rd down specialist.

If the move is just to screw up their #1 East rival, that's totally hilarious.  And quite evil.  If you sense a team needs a QB desperately, all teams go and preventatively sign all remaining couch QBs.  LOL.  Question: what other couch QBs are there still?

As for Wilson, you could start him in a pinch.  He's not horrible.  I think he could win 33% on a good team like MTL.

But they had the bye... so they could have signed Dru before we did?  They would have known about any Alexander injury by that time, no?

I like the theory of "bleep HAM" better than this one.  Pretty sure they start Alexander unless he can't move at all.  They just plan around making him not-mobile: more R.Ray, less Mahomes.  Alexander admitted to this in the Strevie show last week.

The Als only have the 3 QB's on their roster after parting ways with Caleb Evans, maybe they're looking at Wilson as a development QB on the PR who can someday compete for the #2 job.

Calgary released that Canadian DB. The kid played a lot last year at Corner. He must have good speed? Well good enough for Safety, maybe?   That would allow Kramdi to return to OLB or dime?

I think we'd try the in-house options first... If Kramdi goes SAM and ratio is fine then Allen gets his job back once healthy.  If we need ratio then Kelly and even Smith have priority, you gotta believe.

If we do pickups, it'll probably be in areas where we are thin, like DL, maybe REC.

The best solution to the "Kramdi question" is for him to just get better.  If he's not super fast, then be extra super smart and sniff out the play and get an INT.  Be better at run support and blitzing.  Find a way to be really good at something.

Always liked Doege but he's never been given much of an opportunity, as part of a 3 QB circus he might come out on top as a future starter.

Disappointed in what we saw from Ford, he seemed to be a better QB 2-3 years ago, maybe he's given up or is an illustrating that Milanovich is not that good at developing QB's if the QB is not already a stud.

Good luck Cats!  You'd be better off with what you have in-house.  I bet HAM drops 1-2 of these guys in a heartbeat when a real QB shakes free somewhere.  They must be sniffing for trades right about now.

Ironically, they probably would trade their soul for Zach right now.  It would make the $ we paid for Dru look like peanuts.  Not that I'd trade Zach, ever... but I'd be interested in hearing what they are offering.  If we're clearly not going anywhere this season, and unlikely to make the playoffs, by the trade deadline, and we know for sure Zach is retiring in '27.... hmmm.  Zach goes "home" and ends the drought for HAM then retires?

Around goes the QB carousel in Hamilaton:

Ticats sign QB Harrison Frost

https://www.cfl.ca/2026/07/15/ticats-sign-quarterback-harrison-frost/

"HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced on Wednesday the team has signed American quarterback Harrison Frost.

Frost, 27, returns to the Tiger-Cats after spending the 2026 UFL season with the St. Louis Battlehawks, where he appeared in four games, made three starts, and completed 57 of 107 passes for 719 yards and seven touchdowns, adding one rushing touchdown.

He previously spent two seasons with Hamilton (2024-25), appearing in 17 regular season games and completing eight of 12 pass attempts (66.7 per cent) for 95 yards and one touchdown. Frost also spent time with the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons in 2023.

The six-foot-one, 194-pound native of Kennesaw, Georgia, concluded his collegiate career at West Georgia after beginning at Mercer University. Across 54 collegiate games from 2018-22, Frost completed 635 of 1,049 pass attempts (60.5 per cent) for 7,777 yards and 59 touchdowns, including 6,730 passing yards and 50 touchdowns over two seasons at West Georgia."

I don't know why... Ford is the versatile one.  Adds a bit of a Strevy element, maybe get him doing SY and running the trick plays.

Remember the "sneak" Ford did in our first game this season and got like 30Y??  That's his forte.

I'm in agreement with you, but Milo has already given a majority, if not all, SY reps to Dolegala this year. I would imagine he goes back to this arrangement once he figures out who his starting QB is.

Elks D.

"The pass defence is ball hawking, tops in the league with six interceptions, while standing second in opponents' completion percentage (67.9) and knockdowns (20).

Impressively, Edmonton's opposing quarterbacks have been forced to a league-low of just 88.3 in the efficiency rating stats.

As well, the defence has forced a league-high seven fumbles and 16 total turnovers, helping the Elks to the number one perch with a plus-seven in the giveaways-takeaways column."

You replied initially with "why should we care?" but you seemed to care enough to post a reply to it.

What should the threshold of significance be?

The Riders signed a player and that news was posted in this thread. That seems pretty reasonable to me.

He's going to be starting this week, so at least one more shot.

He didn't take a snap for the Argonauts (2004), RedBlacks (2014), or Eskimos (2018).

His rights have been held by every CFL team.

From the CFL transaction page:

Toronto Argonauts added Blue Bombers draft pick Brady Lidster to the practice roster on July 15. Yesterday, Lidster was moved to the active roster. It seems like the Lirim Hajrullahu misses recently have consequences. No followup move involving Hajrullahu yet.

FIVE FINED FOR ACTIONS IN WEEK 7; TWO ADDITIONAL WEEK 6 FINES LEVIED

Department of Health, Safety and Integrity issues player discipline

TORONTO (July 23, 2026) – The Canadian Football League (CFL) Department of Health, Safety and Integrity manages league discipline, while the Office of the Commissioner oversees suspendible offences.

The Department – which includes Chief Football Operations Officer Greg Dick, Vice-President of Officiating Darren Hackwood, Vice-President of Football Operations and Player Safety Eric Noivo and Associate Vice-President of Football Operations Ryan Janzen – has issued five fines from Week 7.

Edmonton linebacker Jadon Pearson has been fined for delivering a blindside block on BC fullback Riley Pickett.
Montreal defensive lineman Kylan Guidry has been fined for delivering a high hit on Calgary quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.
Montreal defensive back Lorenzo Burns has been fined for delivering a dangerous tackle on Calgary wide receiver Clark Barnes.
Toronto linebacker Jalen Rayam has been fined for delivering a blindside block on Hamilton fullback Daniel Bell.
Winnipeg defensive tackle Michael Fletcher has been fined for delivering a high hit on Ottawa quarterback Jake Maier.

Upon further review, two additional fines have been issued from Week 6.

Hamilton running back Larry Rountree III has been fined for delivering a low block on Saskatchewan defensive lineman Desmond Evans.
Ottawa defensive lineman Habakkuk Baldonado has been fined for violating the player code of conduct.

Per CFL policy, the league does not announce:

    Amounts of player fines
Discipline related to dress code violations
    Discipline involving teams or staff
Discipline involving players who have been released

It is interesting that the CFL issued a fine for a Blindside Block that was not penalized but did not issue a fine for a pair of Blindside Blocks that were penalized including the one by Tommy Nield. for the Blindside Block by Tommy Nield. I missed that Rayam was penalized & fined.

Argos injury report shows Hajrullahu (not-injury related) as out. Lidster will be the kicker.

Side note: I continue to see more misspelling of Lirim than I do Hajrullahu.

Every hit on VAJ is a high hit.  The dude is like 3'5".  To get a low hit on VAJ you'd need to tunnel underground.

Anyone want to bet on when Lemon gets into the lineup?  ;)

Blindside blocks get fined when they are egregious and intentional.  Neild's was borderline at best, yes he was going towards his own line, but he was in full view of the blocked player.

Look again, that player had no idea a hit was coming.  That's why it's called "blindside".

The rule book says it has to be "forceful".  Nield's hit was.  If the dude gets knocked back or off his feet, that's forceful.  He would have to have gotten more in front of the guy and just gotten in the way.  That's perfectly legal.

Yes, sometimes what he did goes unflagged.  But in general that's a flag in the CFL nowadays.
