Brady Oliveira signs three-year contract extension with Blue Bombers
WINNIPEG, MB., December 15, 2025 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the signing of running back Brady Oliveira to a three-year contract extension through the 2028 Canadian Football League season.
He was scheduled to become a free agent in February.
Oliveira (5-10, 229; North Dakota; born: August 15, 1997, in Winnipeg, MB.) is already one of the most-decorated players in Blue Bombers history and will now continue his career with his hometown team.
The CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2024 and a two-time winner of the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 2023 and 2024, Oliveira was named the Club's most outstanding player and top Canadian for a third consecutive season in 2025. He is also a two-time CFL All Star (2023, 2024) and coming off a 2025 season in which he rushed for 1,163 yards and three touchdowns and set career highs in receiving with 61 receptions for 546 yards.
He has now rushed for over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons and is already sixth in franchise history in career rushing yards at 5,480 yards.
Oliveira posted four 100-yard rushing games and one 100-yard effort in receiving in 2025, now giving him 22 career 100-yard contests in his career – a total that ranks seventh in franchise history.
Oliveira was selected by the Blue Bombers in the second round, 14th overall, in the 2019 CFL Draft after an outstanding career at North Dakota. He has since suited up for 83 games for the club, scoring 27 touchdowns.

Great signing, at least this year we are able to have a degree of certainty .
The only other big money signing we have among our free agents is Demski.
Goldie you scared me for a second.
I am adding a "-" to the title of this thread. lol
From Dunk:
Big money Brady Oliveira.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign star hometown RB for $290,000 in 2026 and $300,000 in 2027 and 2028.
He was already the CFL's highest-paid running back, earning $240,000 in 2025.

Glorious.
Glad to have him back but still think the SMS hit was too high. Maybe some of the money comes out of marketing money. Regardless we know what impact it may have had on SMS and can get on with re-signing or announcing other players. In theory it only took $50K out of the newer higher SMS.
Let's see if we lose anybody we wanted to keep as free agency hits in February due to lack of SMS room. We don't know how much more our other free agents will require.
That's a lot of cake
I'm thinking he'll be in the top 5 highest paid non-QBs in the league. Definitely top 10.
Happy he's back but not sure I love it.
Best player we have on offense and our best Canadian. Love this move.
That's way too much money. Close to a million for him and Collaros.

It's gonna hurt next year but I suppose theoretically in 2027 we'll probably have a lower cost option QB so it could make some long term sense.
It's definitely a giant piece of sms pie though. In my opinion too much. But we'll see.
Wow, to be honest, I am shocked at the numbers here. He got a 20% pay increase...how many out there got that at their place of work?!? I think it's ridiculous/we way overpaid. What other team is going to tie up$300k on their RB and $600k on their Qb?!?!
So if BO is 'worth' $300k, what do you tell Demski??? The extra $50k we gave him should have went to an OL upgrade.

We'll see how the rest of FA pans out, but if we end up with Neufeld, Wallace & Thomas, I'd imagine this will be Walter's last year. We all knew what the issues were.
Big mistake. Way too much money invested in a running back

Worth every penny. A generational talent. Those don't come cheap when Canadian.

Best back in the league and could make a case for best Canadian ever if he can play till mid 30s.
Not a mistake a pillar for our long term success.
Signing the best back in the league for 3 year deal will bring incredible stability to this organization.
He is just as good off the field as on. This is what makes the CFL great, incredible local talent that sticks around long term.

He wasn't the best back last year...

Imo he is the best back in the league and has been for many years.
Get him improved oline and better consistency passing and he will shine. I will put money on that.
Quote from: bluengold204 on December 15, 2025, 11:41:34 PMHe wasn't the best back last year...
He was 2nd in yards from scrimmage in only 14 games.
People are way exaggerating how "underused" he was.
Counter point, Philpott is getting $275,000 from Montreal, not that far off the $290,000 that Brady will get next year and he has yet to have a 1000 yard season. Elite Canadians are going to cost you.
When Tyson Philpot signed for 275k, that became the absolute floor. I wouldn't have been shocked if the number came in at over 300k, so I'm fine with the number.
Getting him under contract now, and for 3 years, is an absolute bonus. Walters is really lightening up his load for next year's FA period.
Nice to have Oliveira back! And agree, 3 years is a bonus.
Next. Sign Demski please.

Indeed. Believe it or not, I bet we still got a "hometown discount" out of Brady. He could have held out for $325. I actually think higher of him that he only reamed us for $300, no joke.

Uh, didn't KW just get a new 3-year contract? No way he's getting canned before that expires, or we'd have to hire Hogan as our GM as that's the only guy we could afford!!
Quote from: dd on December 15, 2025, 11:05:22 PMSo if BO is 'worth' $300k, what do you tell Demski??? The extra $50k we gave him should have went to an OL upgrade.
You tell Demski he gets the ball 3-6 times a game and Brady 15-25 (run + pass combined for both). Brady takes a massive beating almost every touch. Demski gets a bad bump maybe 1-2 times a game. You tell Demski we're still a run-first team.
You also give Demski a bump, as I'm pretty sure he'll get. $25k more easily. If young Kenny-esque Philpot The Greater is $275, then Demski is easily closer to $240 than $200. The only reason Demski can't get $275 is he's way older and thus is a bigger injury or talent-cliff threat.

Basically exactly as was reported with the ladder I guessed. However, the ladder isn't as steep as I would have wanted (275,300,325). But at least the max is 300 and not 325, so that's a bonus.
It had to be done as Brady is more than a player, he's the face of the team -- maybe even more so than Zach. And Brady will almost certainly be around here longer than Zach.
There's off-field considerations many are forgetting.
It's a good deal, not as bad as it could have been. Good signing. I like it.
Quote from: M.O.A.B. on Today at 12:42:59 AMNice to have Oliveira back! And agree, 3 years is a bonus.
Now we're starting to get proof KW getting his contracted extended 3 years is leading to many more 2 & 3 year deals. KW is trying to set us up for sustained success. Maybe we can get back to puzzle-piece mode by FA27, where the problems are much smaller and solutions more tenable.
This is a good thing. Let's lock Demski next into a 2 or 3-year. AND let's hope the players some people have issues with (ehem) only get 1-years (or 0-years).
Note: Brady Oliveira will be available to media tomorrow, Tuesday, December 16th at 12:00 p.m. CT.

Woot! Hope it will be on the video links page later. Now that he's got his juicy best-in-league contract, I hope he plays up the unicorns and rainbows and drops all the pretentious poop.
Now let's see a '26 with less fumbles!! And some more "Oullette-type" YAFC.

Brady is arguably the best rb in league, while Demski is maybe in the top ten receivers. Throw in the age factor and 210 is a good max.

Teams have 1 starting RB and 5 starting receivers. If Demski is a top ten receiver in a 9 team league that's pretty impressive.
They really need to increase the league minimum because all that is going to happen is the top end player are going to end up with more money. The cap is going up for 10%, therefore Brady gets a 25% raise.....

I kind of think that's the way they want it.
It would be interesting to know more of the details. If we had significant 2025 SMS money left and used it for a signing bonus that would be useful. If we used some Marketing Money that would also be useful. Marketing Money I would think would come out of the 2026 amount. Both these could really reduce the 2026 SMS hit.
I'm not expecting that the Bombers will have exceeded the 2025 SMS but we'll see how that goes and whether a signing bonus had impact on that.
From a player point of view I don't think there is a tax advantage that imports get. OTOH a player may use the early money to push into RSP programs to offset higher income tax burden for example.
Some say too much and some say a bargain. Usually that means it was the right deal. I feel it is fair under the new cap.
What I do wonder is what he was told about the OC? I am not sure he was ready to sign without knowing what would change there.

Fair point. That said he'll be the same player whether we paid him $250K or $350K. The issue is less about him and what it does across the roster and spending the SMS.
Do we lose some players due to not having more to keep other top players? That was part of the argument last year in not being able to retain Dobson or Lawler for example. There is only so much money to spread around.
It's too early to tell whether we have trim other salaries elsewhere.
Winning and losing is never all on one player but we didn't progress in the play offs and we didn't get to the Grey Cup.

210 is less than Demski got last year, no? No way with all the recent inflation we can score Demski for 210. Especially not after his stellar 2025 season where he was clearly our only #1 REC. My guess & hope is we get him for $240, and lock him into a 2 year.
Brady is live on the Huddle right now.

Does anyone know how you make it so you're part of draw for the jersey they usually do in The Huddle? I can't see anything to click, and I don't usually use youtube.
Great Brady presser. Everyone should watch. He's saying all the right things, and said nothing wrong at all. No surprise, it was the same last time he re-signed.
Big takeaways:
- wants to be Bomber forever
- didn't expect the deal this early
- wanted 5 year deal if that was a thing, happy with 3
- pay players on production, not position
Brady may be the sneakiest, coyest player in the league... The dog rescue stuff, the dogs in the preser, the soft-spoken "I love dogs" thing... it basically guarantees everyone loves him. Read the Riders forum and there's virtually no one who hates Brady. Anytime some rare guy bashes Brady there are 5 people defending him "but the dogs!".
Contrast with the league-wide hate for AH33 when he was winning cups here. Everyone (not in blue) hated AH and no one stood up for him on other forums.
Ya, Brady cracked the secret formula.

People generally appreciate humble and kind people. That secret formula is to just be a good person. I agree with you that with far too many people (I'm talking beyond football), this "code" is apparently a secret still, unfortunately.

Ya, but the cute dogs... that's a whole extra level that makes him impervious to hate. That's the cheat code.
AH was never particularly mean or snotty or rough -- his pressers were mostly affable -- and yet he wasn't immune to the hate.
