Title: USFL 2026
Post by: Blue In BC on December 03, 2025, 06:25:11 PM
3 new teams and 2 re-branded names. 3 teams are no longer. I wonder whether there is a draft to stock the 3 new teams? 4 new HC's.

Nothing like zero continuity season to season.

Training camp starts March 3. Waiting to see if Elgersma actually joins that roster and where he ends up on a depth chart.

Quarterbacks (QB)

     2 Matt Corral
    -- Taylor Elgersma
    -- Michael Hiers

Not sure if this is alphabetical, or if that's coincedence.

Looks like he'd be #2 on the list, Corral has parts of 2 seasons with the Stallions. Got a 10 day look after JJ Mcarthy went down in Minnesota.

Hiers had a cup of coffee on the Riders PR.

Wonder if QB2 on a USFL team in a league where there is no such thing as "development" or "continuity", but an outside chance at an NFL look if he gets into games is higher on the list than QB2 on a team looking for the next one, with an older, oft injured QB1.

Some marketing money, lots of game start incentives and a legit chance to become a starter in a game where he is comfortable with 3 downs already, it shouldn't be too tough to sell.

Will channel surf the 1st couple of games to see if he actually gets any playing time. For that matter, if he actually makes their roster. I don't know which games will be broadcast yet so that's a TBD.

Has he confirmed he is reporting to the Stallions?

He has accepted an invite to the NFL combine (Feb 23-Mar2)

USFL camp opens Feb 19.

Unclear. It does overlap the start of TC and it's not a long TC. So being away won't help him win a roster spot. Their 1st game is on March 27th.

EDIT: New kicking rules for FG's and PAT. Changes to receiving rules ( 1 foot in bounds ).

Whether fans agree or disagree with rules is somewhat irrelevant. I'd have a hard time with constant flux in teams  and rosters each season. Different stadiums used and not every game televised.

They will lose fans by Canadianizing their game without consulting fans or players...

What's the base salary for a QB in the USFL.

The minimum is $64K for the 2026 season and:

While all players share the same minimum, starting quarterbacks are often among the highest-paid, with many believed to earn well into the six-figure range.

Just a guess but I'd think Elgersma would be closer to the minimum since he has very little US exposure. That said, it's a shorter season and it's USD so it's more than CFL minimum any way you look at it.
