I'm guessing the complete lack of wind at game time and in the forecast had a lot to do with this change in strategy, but with Vaval returning kicks now, does MOS change his long held strategy?

MOS used to defer at any wisp of wind, or maybe even with no wind! But the last 2-ish seasons he's been more pragmatic. The wind now has to be more of a factor before he'll defer.
I think he's still more of a defer-er than most HCs, but he's certainly becoming more "normal" in this regard. And I think it's a good thing.
