Official: Davis Alexander to start for Montreal Alouettes against Calgary
By 3Down Staff -September 25, 2025

It's official: franchise quarterback Davis Alexander is making his return to the lineup for the Montreal Alouettes on Friday night.

The 26-year-old native of Gig Harbor, Wash. has missed eight straight games due to a hamstring injury that's been bothering him for most of the season. He has completed 72.7 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions this year and rushed nine times for 87 yards and one score.

The six-foot, 194-pound passer has gone 4-0 as a starter in 2025, though the Alouettes are 3-7 without him. Alexander is in his fourth season with the team but his first as their starter. Over 53 career regular-season CFL games, he has thrown for 2,598 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

The Montreal Alouettes (7-7) will host the Calgary Stampeders (8-5) at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday, September 26 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders are coming off a blowout loss to the B.C. Lions, while the Alouettes narrowly beat the Toronto Argonauts on the road.

The weather forecast in Montreal calls for a high of 23 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary and TSN 690 in Montreal.

Official: Vernon Adams Jr. to start for Calgary Stampeders despite back injury
By 3Down Staff -September 25, 2025

The Calgary Stampeders will have Vernon Adams Jr. under centre when the team visits the Montreal Alouettes on Friday night.

The 32-year-old native of Pasadena, Calif. suffered a back injury during last week's loss to the B.C. Lions and was unable to finish the game. He was a limited participant in practice on Monday and Tuesday, then a full participant on Wednesday.

The five-foot-eleven, 190-pound passer has thrown for 2951 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions over 12 regular-season games this season, his first in Calgary. He has also rushed 28 times for 203 yards and one score.

The Stampeders made a number of other changes to the roster this week, moving running back Jeshrun Antwi (head) and defensive back Jackson Sombach (ankle) to the one-game injured list, second-string quarterback P.J. Walker (shoulder) and fullback William Langlais (ankle) to the six-game injured list, and defensive back Brady Breeze to the practice roster.

In corresponding moves, Calgary has moved quarterbacks Josh Love and Logan Bonner to the active roster, who will dress as the second and third-stringers behind Adams Jr., respectively. Tyler Richardson will dress as a backup cornerback after being a healthy scratch last week, while Canadian depth players Justin Herdman-Reed and Dolani Robinson have also been added to the active roster.

The Calgary Stampeders (8-5) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (7-7) at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday, September 26 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders are coming off a blowout loss to the B.C. Lions, while the Alouettes narrowly beat the Toronto Argonauts on the road.

For some reason, no one in gamezone pickems is taking CGY.  And looking at their roster, they are very beat up.  And look at MTL's in/out this week!  Holy smokes, you could make a team that would probably beat us just with their IN column this week.  They are getting max power at just the right time.

Not great for us when we face them in a few weeks.  Though more injuries can happen.  Let's see how that Alexander hammy holds up.

What's wrong with McGloster?  Him being out may hurt.  Interesting them using a NAT rookie DP at OT!  Wow.  Is this guy a unicorn?

Biggie still starting.  I just don't get it.  He's been a liability out there so far this season.

But they are adding Herdmann to back him up tonight.  3 guys slotted @MLB.

Haha, a missed FG and potential (but untaken) return just occurred.

I think it would be hilarious karma if the CFL blew up with a ton of amazing missed FG returns this week.  I want to see 1 a game!  Make them the best play of the game and main SC highlight.  ;D  ;D

Haha, H2H, penalty time, new 1st down

Wow, Dickenson The Greater screaming in a silent stadium totally audible with crazy swear bombs.  Everyone knows that's a penalty and he's having a conniption.

Not sure what his beef is.  Rules say you can't contact any part of the QB helmet, no matter what.  And tell your D to not rip it off to make it super obvious!  LOL

Post-game I'm going to have to go back to see if I can transcript that DTG rant.  Wild stuff!  Can he get a fine for that much vitriol?  In MLB that can get a HC kicked out of the game.

CGY OC using some great sneaky & creative plays.  No straight up go routes, everything is a complicated crosser with clearing.

MTL D all discombobulated right now.

MTL susceptible to the edge run, just like us.

Haha, they just threw 1st TD to J.Philpot.  The guy I put 1st TD money on by mistake.  LOL.  Saved by the ambiguous names.

This is also the battle of the glass QBs.  Alexander is one step away from another hammy.  VAJ's brain is still in the danger zone for concussion.  Will either get injured?

Luke Wilson: barf, trojan horse plant, go home to the states.  We don't want you anymore.

I told you we need him HERE no matter the cost or illegal tampering required.  Put the word on the street NOW.  Any offer he gets + $200k + $200k MMM.

He's going to more cups than anyone else in the next 5 years assuming he has a decent team around him.

I thought it was brutal and totally unnecessary.  The only argument you could make, as DTG did, is he bent over.  But the rules are clear, you cannot hit the head, no matter what the QB does.  It's been that way for a few years.

Can't eliminate that from the game, bang bang
Bent over so helmets banged
I know the way it's called and yes a penalty by the book
I don't believe the guy sacking him could have done anything else or adjusted that quickly
I don't agree with your 1st sentence but I get it, gotta play clean, nobody wants head shots

Ya, but they took away the requirement "he had to be able to do something" a few years back.  The only possible mitigation listed in the rule book is if the D was pushed or similar.  And it still may not apply to head hits.

Ya, a few years ago I'd agree with you, but they've changed all this stuff because QBs are getting too injured.

I know I'd like Zach to have protection from that hit.  If Zach takes that he's probably out of the game immediately and we probably lose.  That's no fun.

Those long-delay blitzes are killer.  They are hammering QBs in this game and all season.  Very deadly.

Only works against QBs that hold the ball a long time (ones that think they have a good OL).  So in that sense we may be immune.  ;)  ;)

Well that was nuts.  He had some serious speed on that one.  Maybe faster than Davis with his iffy hammy right now.

Haha, after they show DTG and he's getting shivers up his spine from the crazy play of his QB, LOL.  Bromance.

Forde's wrong.  Even in 2027 that INT would have been OOB.  He was far enough out and barely on the "weird corners" and it's easy to tell.

He was missing some the other week too, eh?  Castillo's stats catching up with Maltos', in terms of the "big leg" kickers.

4Q8:43 Patterson sneaking takes a spear H2H trying to go high.  Like textbook spear.

Ya, I know, "what's the D guy to do?", the only target showing is his helmet.

But Biggie started to get heck for that a few years ago and he was forced to modify his sneak-stop to leading with his hands or shoulder.  And it worked fairly well.

Now we're back to sneaker-spearing is ok?  I was waiting for EITS on this one, no dice.  We'll see if a fine is incoming (and if so... where is the EITS?!?!?).

The rulebook has NO carveout exception for "sneakers are denied the normal QB head protection".

Now we know why they put the "expendable" QBs in to do the sneaks. (Well, most teams)

He's like their Ento/Dequoy.  MTL D stunk badly without those dudes.

And once again Biggie was a) rarely on the field, b) doing nothing.  It's costing them games now.  DTG will need to pull the plug.
