I just watched the Sept 05 press conference and I am shocked with what Mike O'Shea said how its it Schoen is coming of an ACL Injury and re-injures the ACL vs Calgary in Week 5 and is cleared by the Medical Staff after 7 weeks and is now done for the season ?
To me more than one person is to blame its a organizational failure !!!
At this point I don't think Schoen ever plays football again. He will be 29 next year and it takes 2 years to fully come back from an ACL tear.
Some ACL injuries you can still run & catch, it's just that you can't cut or stop. Looks like that's what Schoen was. He may have not really cut or stopped all game until that 2PAT. He definitely had to stop to wait for that ball, and that's right when we saw him get injured. So... technically he could still play... ish.
But your point that we shouldn't have played him at all... It looks like the team wanted to give him a chance because they knew this could be the end of his career. He also (clearly) causes D's to respect him and cover him and cheat to him and add guys to him. That's why all the other RECs did so well in LDC. So was it all bad? He did last until the (near-)final play. He didn't "cost us" anything in that game.
They were probably doing the "let's see how this goes" and roll with it as long as it lasted. Schoen also could have been lying this whole time about how good it felt to him: painting a rosy picture.
He was likely headed to surgery or extended time off anyhow, so to "re-re-re-injured" it doesn't really make anything worse. The end result for Schoen is the same.
Lastly: revenue. Schoen is on a boatload of jerseys in the Bomber Store. Now those will go unsold, because who wants to retire their jersey in FA'26 when we don't re-sign him.
Because Schoen helped us almost win a "guaranteed" loss LDC against the "best" team in the league, I'm ok with the call. I'm ok with the secrecy. I guarantee you it's what Schoen wanted. No (extra) harm, no foul.
Now, I wonder if we'll see him on the sidelines still (like he did up until this point) or if he just flies home and we never see him again.
Wouldn't he technically still be an employee? And he probably doesn't want to ask for his release, because he'll make great coin on the 6GIR. Not sure what the precedent is here.

He'll probably be on the sidelines for home games. His medical requirements will be handled the same as any other player unless he has a preferred specialist in the USA.

I don't know what you mean. Players get injured all the time. What precedent are you looking for?

exactly! :D
Poor roster management. Again. Feel bad for DS.
I think you're right, his acl wasnt going to heal, it would require surgery, His choice to do it right away or wait, either way he would miss next season or possibly be career ending,
He decided to try to make it thru this season.Unfortunately the choice was made for him
Without medical knowledge of his situation speculation about his playing is just that
I don't think it was further injured in Sask. Maybe some swelling and pain. I just think he realized it was not stable enough. But realistically someone should have told him not to play.
Biggie, Schoen and Collaros were all okayed to play in Grey Cup games that ended up hurting the team and now this happens. It has to stop.

Lol. Same response to every post, right?
I don't remember, did DS have surgery last time?
Depending on the tear, they can be rehabbed without surgical repair, but if he keeps injuring it, I guess he will get surgery and fix it for good.
Some interesting new characters on the forum the last few weeks.

Yep enough is enough, if Walters or Miller have to step in to ensure a change in policy so be it, if Al Couture's head rolls, so be it. Couture has shown he is in neglect of his duties and is little more than a yes man that will go along to get along with the wishes of O'Shea and the players.
More disturbing, when asked about Schoen's condition after the LDC O'Shea smiled at a reporter and chirped, "He's good". Either he has total contempt for the question or he sees it as a game were he can say whatever he wants to because he thinks he owns the team.

Agreed but simple solution. Don't roster him. They had options. Sad.

As in what do players normally do when it's 2 thirds done the season and they just got a season ender. I could see some just going home, assuming that's allowed without retiring.
I may be wrong, that's why I asked

I believe it's up to the player whether he wants to go home or not, the team can't force him to stay. It will be interesting to see what Schoen decides to do, his rehab may not even begin for months after the operation, so he wouldn't have much he could do.

ACL tear healing without surgery for a high level athlete still competing. Not sure about that....but ok. Google can be your friend.
Poor roster management.

There's just tons of cases of it happening every year and you made it seem like it's something that has never happened.
He'll either have his surgery and rehab with the team being a coach on the sidelines. Or he'll opt out and do his rehab at home.
I imagine he'll stick around.
This situation is truly sad and my hearts breaks for Dalton. He gave everything he had, worked hard on his rehab, only to have this happen again. You could visibly see him wincing in pain in every play the Calgary and Sask games.
Totally disappointed we didn't keep him out until he was fully recovered and hold him out even a week later than we thought he was ready, but alas, hind sight.
He's out for a long time now and likely his career is over.
He will be back but will never be the same player he was early
His price will be half next time and worth it imo
Tough spot, too bad we couldn't find a way to avoid this

No one knows if he will be back its more correct to say I think ( and hope ) he will be back.
I personally can't think of an NFL or CFL player that has injured their ACL 2 years in a row and played the next year or continued to play Football.
In the NFL 21 year old Rookie Johnathan Brooks injured his ACL in 2023 ( College ) and 2024 ( NFL non-contact ) and will miss the entire 2025.

Just my gut tells me he can come back, loads of hope required on this one, young enough to try
It was amazing Schoen came back so soon. I said in an earlier post two years ago he looked twenty pounds heavier from his NFL try out. He also looked really slow. Then we all know he tore up his knee(s) and I don't think is recovery was anywhere near real. Then he got hurt, on a poor pass, was that from Zach? And then Zach is gone. Who is next?
I don't think Strev is the answer, nor. Our third string guy. Maybe he is.
Who might we beg to give us a QB?
Too early to assume we need a QB. A Strev and Wilson mix might be way to try it if so. I think we could do a thread to propose and rank replacement QB ideas if Zach is hurt long term, which I don't believe is the case

He will be 29 next year that is not young in Football that is much closer to the end than the beginning.

If Zach isn't able to play at this point I would try Wilson because we know what we are getting with Strev I love his effort but that isn't enough.

Not wrong
Not old enough to give up imo
Modern medicine, patience, perseverance and a little luck are a powerful combo. Strev fought against the odds and won.

But will the Bombers want to be the Team that takes that chance ?

Someone will bite at the right price imo, I would
Many clubs would move on, others would roll the dice at the right price imo

What gear did he have? Brace, cast, crutches, whatever? Nothing?

Only saw him from the waist up. He appeared to be wearing casual.
Success rate of acl surgery varies depending on the source you trust but 10%, or maybe 5% if done and rehabbed expertly, fail. This surprised me. A year off will be needed I am sure. That means the whole of 2026.

Ya, the timing isn't great for Schoen. Sometimes they take only 9-12 months, meaning he could be back by maybe July next season. But maybe rushing back too soon last time is what caused this re-injury?
Did we get him for 2yr, meaning we have him for '26? So do we cut him in off-season? A bit harsh, but, even if SMS-relieved, it's still wasted real money. Plus, we'd have to make sure he doesn't get any winter bonus. Everything has to be structured to be 6GIR-relieved.
