Montreal Alouettes get four starters back against Tiger-Cats but not QB Davis Alexander
By 3Down Staff -September 5, 2025
The Montreal Alouettes are starting to get healthy at a key time but franchise quarterback Davis Alexander remains out due to an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old was limited in practice all week but will be unable to go against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, allowing James Morgan to make a second-straight start. The 28-year-old former fourth-round NFL draft pick threw for 198 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a 26-13 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers that preceded Montreal's recent bye week.
Fortunately for the Alouettes, Morgan will be surrounded with more regular starters this time around as Tyson Philpot and Austin Mack have returned to the lineup. Philpot missed the team's last six games due to a hamstring injury, while Mack missed the last four due to an ankle problem.
Philpot has caught 24 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns over five games this season, while Mack has reeled in 21 throws for 296 yards. The former was named the Grey Cup's Most Valuable Canadian in 2023, while Mack was named All-CFL that same year.
The Alouettes will also get fullback David Dallaire, defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson, and returner James Letcher Jr. back in the lineup. Johnson hasn't played since suffering a season-ending knee injury last fall but has previously been dominant, recording 96 defensive tackles, 15 sacks, and one touchdown over 41 career regular-season CFL games, earning an All-East Division selection in 2023.
To make room on the active roster, Montreal has placed running back Stevie Scott III and receiver Alexander Hollins on the one-game injured list and moved Canadian receivers Hakeem Harris and Kaseem Ferdinand, linebacker Riley MacLeod, and defensive back Don Callis to the practice roster.
The Montreal Alouettes (5-6) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-5) at Percival Molson Stadium on Saturday, September 6 with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m. EDT. The Tiger-Cats lost a heartbreaker on the weekend, while the Alouettes were on a bye.
The weather forecast in Montreal calls for a high of 20 degrees with cloudy conditions and a 40 percent chance of showers. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton and TSN 690 in Montreal.

All-CFL DL Casey Sayles out for Hamilton Tiger-Cats against Alouettes
By 3Down Staff -September 5, 2025
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be without defensive lineman Casey Sayles when they take on the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday afternoon.
The 30-year-old native of Omaha, Neb. didn't practice this week due to a groin injury and has been placed on the one-game injured list. Mario Kendricks Jr., who has recorded 14 defensive tackles and five sacks in a depth role this season, will start in his place.
Sayles is in his third season with the Tiger-Cats and earned an All-CFL selection in 2023. The six-foot-three, 290-pound defender has made 20 defensive tackles and one sack this season, adding to his career totals of 171 defensive tackles, 26 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 77 regular-season games.
The Tiger-Cats have also moved Canadian receiver Keaton Bruggeling and American defensive back Quavian White to the one-game injured list, while Canadian linebacker Daniel Kwamou has been demoted to the practice roster.
Canadian running back Ante Milanovic-Litre is back on the active roster after missing five games due to a hamstring injury, rookie offensive lineman Arvin Hosseini will depth in a backup role, and defensive lineman Maalik Hall will make his CFL debut in a backup role. Phillip Brooks, who was signed this week, will handle return duties.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-5) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (5-6) at Percival Molson Stadium on Saturday, September 6 with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m. EDT. The Tiger-Cats lost a heartbreaker to the Argonauts on the weekend, while the Alouettes were on a bye.

Just watching this game and have a couple of comments
-Kenny Lawler having s very tough game, dropping several passes, hardly worth the big coin they're paying him
-Fox is having a big game, man I wish we still had this dude on our D line—how did we let this guy get away?
-James Morgan absolutely sucks as a Qb, Montreal is dead if that's all they got at Qb

Morgan is their 4th string QB I believe, what were you expecting?

Fox is playing on a much better front 4 than we have in Winnipeg. It's more a question of why didn't we do something more significant in free agency?

I realize that my point was if you're going with him the west will crossover and you're not in the playoffs, so make a trade and try and salvage your season

Alexander is expected back next weekend, he'll raise there level of play significantly and the Als could go on a run.
I wouldn't have let Fox go, I liked the 3 guys we didn't sign, Fox, Garbutt and Haba. Fox is a star.
Doh. 2 threads: merge request!

Woods and Adams could be very good also if they got playing time. If Fox and Garbutt were here there probably sitting on the PR also.

Woods I really like and we shall see how he plays when he gets a chance
Adams has been ok
Fox looks to have taken the next step after leaving
Garbutt been ok I think but Haba has bounced around
Hard to say what those three would have done for us this year
Pretty boring game. First 2 games of the triple header not helping out fantasy players at all!
I think Kenny was sick of getting hit. They'd put him in a brutal tight zone hole and he knew he'd get killed by 4 guys from all directions. He's better in space.
Ento doing Ento things. Man that guy is good. Dequoy pretty invisible. Teams just don't throw to the side he cheats to.
