Title: Good/Bad/Ugly
Post by: Jesse on September 01, 2025, 02:09:04 PM
Was not in the mood last night, but here we go:

Good:
- Zach had 300+ yards, 3 TDs, and the only INT was that late 2-point attempt, under the pressure he was facing all night, I thought it was a pretty gutsy performance.
- Defence was very solid. They caused a turnover at the Rider goalline and 3 TDs against were the result of offensive turn overs.
- Didn't see any explosive plays on the back of Lawson Jr.

Bad:
- Another 2nd and short attempt before the half that somehow turns into a sack
- Not converting the TD on the 2 yard line
- The 2 point attempt
- Schoen's first 2 catch attempts got him absolutely rocked
- The OL play as a whole. Couldn't keep Zach clean at all.

Ugly:
- Fumbles. Two offensive fumbles on our goal line were the difference.
- The late offensive drive with 3 consecutive penalties to negate first down plays. Followed by aforementioned fumble.
- The guard play in particular. Neufeld and Wallace played like they either bet on the Riders or Zach kicked their dogs.

castillo has to make that kick

absence of using brady consistently

kick and punt coverage was pretty good and forced a fumble

tackling was a bit weak at times

clercius was awesome - don't stop using him

Also bad was Zach/ offensive line, 2nd and inches taking a sack,
Its very noticable Hogans play calling at times. Previously we would not have tried to get cute and just continued with moment.
Or at least have a quick outlet given how the riders had neen getting yo Zach.
I still maintain that Wilson is the better choice on short yardage. Hes much quicker and can even break one

Good:

Zach Collaros
Cam Lawson
Kick cover teams
Both corners
Defensive gameplan
Even Holm

Bad:

Generating QB pressure
Deatrick Nichols
James Vaughters
Offensive line (particularly the interior)
Brady Oliveira production and fumble

Ugly:

Streveler's goal line option read
Payton Logan

Ugly

Schoen limping badly after the 2 pointer pick.

Good

-Clercius adds to his resume, every receiver contributed.
-Kyrie, still performing at a high level, cross-fingers but this may be his best season ever.
-Dexter Logan and Vaval did ok at CB, no obvious screw ups.

Bad

-Losing Schmeck and playing shorthanded the rest of the game.
-Kramdi was missed.
-LB's out of position to stop the run, relying on smaller DB's to tackle RB's, need more beef.
-Zach getting sacked on 2nd and 1, that play had long term implications, Zach can't be caught standing flat footed in the backfield, he has to keep moving as he's not as quick as he once was.
-Screwing up the 1st and goal series early in the game, Strev can no longer make the corner run, try something else.
-Lucky if we see one jet-sweep a game now, it used to be a team strength.

Ugly

Brady only 5 touches whole game unacceptable Hogan is not a good play caller

What's worse than Ugly because that's what Hogan and his play calling is. Guy needs the apple and a road map asap.

I don't agree that we need to give the ball to Brady just because. The offence scored 30. Seemingly did their job outside of the turnovers.

Some games the D is giving you passing lanes, not the running game and that's fine.

Thus far in 2025, the Blue Bombers have lost yardage on just 11 drives led by Zach Collaros. The bad - 5 of those drives happened yesterday.

Zach Collaros went 1 for 1 on QB sneaks yesterday.

Jamieson Sheahan and the punt cover team has netted less than 30 yards on a punt just 10 times in 2025. 3 of those punts took place yesterday.

We live and die by the run game.  How it's been for a decade

The good

Mitchell looked like he cared.
Zach was great for most of the game.
Receivers respectable

The Bad
Lack of a professional OC.
2pt convert attempt at end of game.
Schoen
Strevlor has no legs to be who he was
OC decision making.  Let's face it. The guy is maybe a good amateur coach....maybe
# 0
 # 1

The ugly
3rd down gambles. O line can't even get us a yard.
Guards are embarrassing to watch pass block
How can we not find two men to pass block .
How can we not be able to pass block.?
Deciding not to pay very good linemen, and pay a guy like Mitchell.
Offensive play calling.
Lousy d line pass rush
A defensive lineman who used to try, now try's to be a volleyball blocker, and plays extremely poorly on non passing downs.

I agree.  SSK D is built around run stop.  Their weakest point is the mid/deep pass game.  Their LBs don't really pass cover.  And their DBs are weak, especially the field side.

If you can get the pass off they are extremely beatable.

They are like the reverse-Bombers.

Things can change.  We've had 1 good Brady game this season... how many games in?  If your OL can't run block well, and your main rivals have all beefed up their DL, then you ain't gonna have a big run game (most of the time).
