In the BC@WPG game the booth guys kept saying something like "Vavool" for Vaval. Like 5+ times.
That's the first I've heard of that. I don't think they said it that way in WFC pressers.
Anyone know what the scoop is here?
The "scoop" would likely be that it's a new player and not everyone is on the same page with the emphasis?
I'd probably stick to the way the Bombers pronounce it unless we hear otherwise?
I didn't notice but I did notice he had a very good game. He'll be tough to take off the AR.
TSN talking heads often get info from players/teams who want their names done "right".
Case in point: "Mac-mah-hone" LOL, said no one ever.
The thing is, no one would ever look at "Vaval" and think "vavool", like it's some Italian luncheon meat or something. That's what makes me think someone sent them a memo... but then why wouldn't MOS have that same memo?
Weird.
I'm pretty sure they were calling him "Va-ool" on TSN. I'm guessing he misread the name as Vaual and went with this pronunciation. Listening to Bonfire After Dark, Darren Bauming mentions multiple times what the proper pronunciation is. When it comes to player names, I trust DB over Glen Suitor any day.

Now that you mention it, maybe TSN was leaving out the middle V! It sure sounded weird.
If Mafia and Doug are saying Vahvahl then it must be right.
Now someone from WFC get the memo to TSN to get this fixed!
Thanks!
I noticed this too and was curious.
Maybe they mixed him up with Vanterpool?

The surname is French, which could explain the weird pronunciation.
This from AI.
"Haitian Carnival Tradition:
In Haiti, the name Vaval is strongly linked to the annual carnival celebration, where a mythical figure, the "King of Carnival," is known as Vaval.
Old French Origin:
According to MyHeritage, the name could also trace back to the Old French word "vaval," which was used to refer to a young man or squire, potentially indicating a social role or status.
Surname Distribution:
The surname Vaval is predominantly found in Haiti, reflecting its connection to the carnival tradition. It is also found in some parts of the United States, particularly in areas with Haitian populations."
Haiti, did you see those tattoos??? That's voodoo stuff, originally thought he had a face tattoo as well but it was just a charcoal cross. No wonder he runs so fast, the devil is always chasing him! I'd like to see an episode of The Huddle were Ed gets him to break down his tattoo collection, it would be more interesting than talking about food.
Dustin saying "Vah-ool" again tonight.
Some Eastern European and Slavic languages don't pronounce the V, they turn it into a W. They could be saying Vah-wool. However, that doesn't explain saying the first V! ;D

Then wouldn't it be Wahwoool?
Re Vaval.....Bauming on the pregame show said the tattoo is a checkered flag...related to the fact that
Vaval is a serious dirt bike racer. Lots of injuries in that sport.
The guy is a great find. On YouTube he has a video of himself playing defensive back.
On top of his good play, His attitude, from what I can see, is impressive. A "team" player.
I thought I saw some well organized blocking on the returns. Special teams are clicking. Fumble recovery
Only in the CFL could you have a player named Justin Macinnes playing in a game reffed by Justin McInnes .
Dustin tonight is saying VAHval. Quite a few times. Gone is "Vahool" and "Vavool".
However, in my mind (and from WFC pressers?) it should be vahVAL, with emphasis on 2nd syllable.
Oh well, at least we now know it's not Vahool! LOL

In the BC game I had no idea who they were even talking about. He and Suitor are a pair of donkeys and it's embarrassing for the league that we can't find better, more competent, play-by-play announcers.
I think I'm actually with Tecno on this one that the weird and inconsistent pronunciation of this dude's name is perplexing and weird.

Saw Vaval out there twice in passing situations taking reps at what looked to be left side HB, but it could have been in a double Safety formation.
Dustin N. and Suitor were terrible last night
For Vaval, last night and previous, they sound like they mumble with the name.
Suitor, and his guesses on what has occurred, was simply a mess many times when the replay came up

How did he look? If he can get some reps ok D and hold up, he could be a real important part of our club.

He looked like this, minus the suit. LOL I saw him lineup but don't think he got in on any action.

A classic forum moment there, need that, good for a laugh

Yup, saw it too on my rewatch. He was in on a tackle on 2nd & forever. I think we'd put him in in speed situations, where he might have to race someone down. He certainly isn't in there for beef!

He would be a good add to cover teams if there is room, always good to have a super fast guy that's able to run down the fastest returners. I remember them using Lankford for that purpose.

I've seen him on the field on cover teams...
Thanks for the extra info guys, you are awesome!

Yup! If I was ST coord I would have him on a much later wave who can chase down the guy who slips out, he could achieve really good angles with his speed.
I do not want him gunning and blowing guys up, unless he's set just as a "harassment" gunner, or the "keep in your lane" gunner.

No, he was too far back, they left that to Jones.

He could have been the "spy of last resort".
