The only person who was released who I wish we kept around was Webb. Looked like a lot of speed from the DE position.

The PR seems like it's stocked with prospects who could be good for the future.

There are still moves that need to happen, but we're a couple of weeks from our first game still.

No complaints here.

Don't love only carrying two DEs on the AR, both of whom are over 30.

Yes, not even enough for a proper rotation, hoping not to see a DT trying to play DE.

A lot could change in the next couple of weeks.  We have Adams, Woods, and then Kornelson, Lawson, Thomas, and Schmekel. Can't see us with 6 DTs and only 2 DEs.

Probably. The current set up screams 3-4 but we'll see.

Webb looked great on that fumble return, nut I think Person was the one that caused the fumble.  SO if you have to choose one... I think they chose right.

No big surprises, I knew we wouldn't cut our vets and happy we didn't.  Proud of Sheahan for making the roster, he had a  some good competition there.  I think he will serve us just fine.  Happy to have Allen, Cooley, Cobb, White, Woodbey on the PR, those are some studs!  Case a good backup.  Some of the other guys I know less of but showed flashes and I know others were pumping their tires.  Gowan had good pedigree and showed ok.  I seen Avery make a few plays.  Can't keep everyone, never know could see them on a call back.

Interesting that we have no one on the retired list - draft picks that can return to University. Does anyone know if any of our draft picks that we released can return to University?

I'm surprised that Myron Mitchell was released. Thought he had a good camp and pre-season games.

There was an article the other day about Novak (the 3rd LB we drafted this year), and that he could go back to school as a back up plan. Likely outcome.

Uwubanmwen is going back to U of A. You don't see him on the retired list as he nevered got signed due to recovering from an injury.

Trey Laing had to leave camp. Who knows if he plans on playing football in the future.

We released about 6 players that I thought might stick on our PR. However, even PR spots are limited and some may have chosen to not accept a PR spot.

Overall our PR looks stronger than in 2024 but it's just a guess at the moment. Need to see how this shapes out when we see an actual game day AR and changes made to accommodate.

There are some concerns to be addressed.

No mention of Zack Davis on any list, I guess coming from the Wpg. Rifles he was a non-counter and is not recognized.  Current PR has 11 players, isn't it supposed to be 10?

We are not in line with numbers at all. Still more moves coming.

The question I have is will we see us in compliance at some point this week, or can they keep their cards close to the vest until roster/depth chart is released for our first game in week 2?

It's 13 if you use 2 spots for global players. At the moment we only have 1 on the PR. I think that leaves us with 1 empty spot for a Canadian or Import. However, we know the AR and PR will be adjusted during the week before game day.

On 3rd Down is shows Makonzo as not injured when on may 14th he was shown on the 6 game IR. He'd be great depth if he's healthy and on the AR to start the season but the information is contradictory.

Lofton injury statsus is up in the air. However, since he's missed most of TC I'd guess he misses at least game 1 being replaced by Randolph.

Weitz and Artopolous injury status a bit up in the air. A reasonable guess would see Bailey added with Wietz moved to IR or PR?

Yep, for every player sitting on the IR right now someone on the PR or roster is going to pay the price with their job. The team has extra SMS this year so expect too see creative use of the 1 game IR this year, if they don't want to pair down potentially Lofton, Vanterpool and Randolph are job sharing 2 positions with Wallace and Eli continuing on as 6th and 7th man.

Ya, the big surprise is M.Mitchell.  Well, sort of.  He clearly had improved, and he clearly had the correct attitude and effort.  So it's just that his raw talent is lacking (and he still sucks at returns).

However, I could see him being on speed dial should we have REC injury problems in-season.  Other teams may take a bite as well.

Also, R.White going to PR answers the question about D.Mitchell being guaranteed a spot, and Sterns beating White out to start the season.  I hope DM doesn't turn into the next A.Bowman/C.Matthews.

That's correct. Davis was never added to the Bombers' roster so he didn't need to be deleted.

Same goes for running back Kaiden Banfield (number 35).

Pretty disappointing they cut M. Mitchell when it looked like he outperformed 2 of the vet receivers they retained, it devalues the concept of open competition, but that's the coaching staffs prerogative to make those decisions.  Dillon Mitchell is being given the opportunity to be the next Kenny Lawler, he'd better grab that ball and go on day one of the regular season or his stay will be short.

Roster has been updated slightly and now shows Makonzo on the 6 game IR. That's too bad and I wonder whether it will be longer than 6 games. He would have been very good depth.

I think the Bombers see a guy that had an outstanding season in 2022. However, he only played 6 games in 2023, and nothing last season. He was a gamble when we signed him.

Quote from: DM83 on June 03, 2025, 02:39:11 AMWhy do you think it's gonna be a 3-4.  A four man front provided some pressure. Complaints about coverage poor LBs have surfaced from posters.

I will not watch a passive non aggressive defense..  hope was provided, in the last Sask game as the def was great.
Just because a few posters are complaining about our LBs, doesn't mean it's true.  But yes for short routes over the middle we have been exposed at times.  Hopefully we can fix that by schemes and new faces stepping up or exisring guys adjusting.  Dbs will play a role as well, safety a little bit.

For a few years the league has seen a lot more 3 man fronts, which could continue, I'm not sure.  I see our starters at LB being good to great and our depth is exceptional.  I see a defense that will be aggressive at times but also giving a lot of looks to confuses QBs and the LBs are a big part of this.  I don't care how we structure our D as long as it's effective and I believe we will be a top 3 D this year.  I think we will get more aggressive as we gel, mostly to give our new safety and corner time to adjust.

Hall and Younger are the class of the CFL and I trust them fully.  Hall will go down as creating on the best long standing defenses in Bomber history imo and will setup Younger to be a star for years to come.  I think they will figure this out pretty darn quick.

Our D will have more flavors than the bdi lol.  More rotations than a merry go round. ;)

Turns out I was wrong in thinking that M. Mitchell must have turned down the PR. MOS revealed on the coach's show that only one player turned it down. That was Evans, the punter.

Could come down to choosing the receivers Zach is most comfortable with, I think he probably has a say on which receivers and which O-linemen he prefers to play with through Hogan.

Let's hope he finds an early season rhythm with this group! That is key.  Looks like Wheatie found the way already.  Love that guy.
