Title: What makes a good IMP OL?
Post by: TecnoGenius on April 27, 2025, 01:58:35 AM
It always amazes me that there aren't zillions of great IMP OL in the CFL.  Shouldn't there be an endless supply of NFL cast-offs?  Yet here we are in the CFL with arguably not even enough good IMP OTs to go around.

Normally the CFL benefits from the "must be giant" requirement in most NFL positions (like REC and QB): any great QB and REC under 6' has a good shot in our league after being passed over down south.

But I don't see the physical size aspect as being the factor with hoggies.  In both leagues they must be tall, and big.  (Unless they are even taller in the NFL?)

So what is it that makes an OL not good enough for the NFL, but great in the CFL?  Like Big Stan.  The best CFL OL ever isn't good enough for the NFL?  Why?  And why are they so rare?

I think the linemen in the NFL are alot more athletic--their footspeed and overall speed is alot quicker than our guys--I m thinking Dobson, young gun, who was an allstar last year, was pretty much a slug on the field--short, wide and slow.

So how would Big Stan compare then to your average NFL OL?

What you say makes sense, I'm wondering if there's other things too.
