Bryant, the club's future Hall of Fame left tackle, told the media on Tuesday that he plans to play again next year. The native of Goldsboro, N.C., who was named All-CFL for the eighth time in his career this season, will turn 39 in May.
"I can't go out like that," he said. "This year was just very disappointing, I could say embarrassing how it happened. To get through all the adversity we went through this year — 0-4, 2-6, going on the road — and then getting back to the Grey Cup, and then the things that happened and how the score looked, I just feel like that's not something that I can settle with and not try to compete and get back to it and win it."
Streveler, Schoen, and Bighill, all of whom suffered torn ACLs this season, indicated they're planning to play in 2025.
"I'd love to be back here, I love it here," said Streveler, who is expecting a baby in January with his girlfriend, Taylor Anderson. "I think everyone knows how much I love this place. I love the culture, I love the guys in this locker room. I'd love to be back here."
Schoen is hoping to be back to 100 percent at least a month before training camp gets underway. He's optimistic that the injury won't hurt him too badly in free agency, saying that'll be "between the team or potential teams and my agent."
Bighill, who lives in Winnipeg year-round, wouldn't provide a firm timeline for his return but indicated he could be back sometime around May. He also said he hasn't given "too much thought into" exploring free agency because he's assuming he'll get a deal done to return for a seventh season with the Blue Bombers.
Neufeld also said he has "full intentions" of being back in Winnipeg next season as a player, though he has yet to communicate that to head coach Mike O'Shea and general manager Kyle Walters.

Blue Bombers re-sign kicker Sergio Castillo
November 21, 2024
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has re-signed veteran kicker Sergio Castillo to a one-year contract.
He was scheduled to become a free agent in February of 2025.
Castillo (5-9, 197; West Texas A&M; born: November 1, 1990, in La Joya, TX) returns to the club after serving as the club's placekicker since 2023.
The 34-year-old is in his third stint with the Blue Bombers where he began his Canadian Football League career in 2015 and returning in 2021 via trade. He then signed in Edmonton in 2022 before rejoining the club in 2023 as a free agent.
Castillo was named the Blue Bombers Most Outstanding Special Teams Player for a second consecutive season in 2024 after connecting on 79.7 percent of his field goals (51-of-64), and hitting on 38-of-39 converts.
His 51 successful field goals – third highest in Blue Bombers history — came from an average distance of 37.1 yards and the average attempt from 39.2 yards – both league-highs. He also established a new CFL record with 11 field goals of 50 yards or more, including two makes from 60 yard – breaking the previous team record of 58, first set by Bernie Ruoff in 1975 and tied by Justin Medlock in 2016.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign WR Keilahn Harris and re-sign DL Lucky OgbevoenNovember 22, 2024 Michael Heilman
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receiver
Keilahn Harris and re-signed defensive lineman
Lucky Ogbevoen on Friday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Keilahn Harris is six foot and weighs 180 pounds. The 23-year-old from Richardson, Texas, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. In 2023, he made seven catches for 76 yards and one kick return for 22 yards in three preseason games. He spent a month on the practice squad before the Falcons released him on October 28, 2023.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Harris on January 17, 2024. An injury prevented him from attending training camp and he was released on May 28, 2024.
Collegiately, Harris played three seasons at Oklahoma Baptist (2019, 2021-22) making 196 catches for 2,510 yards, 26 touchdowns, six carries for 15 yards, completing one pass for 15 yards, one touchdown, 70 kick returns for 1,570 yards, one touchdown, 10 punt returns for 66 yards, and 8 tackles (7 solos, 1 assist) in 34 games for the Bison.
Harris was named a two-time All-GAC (2021-22), two-time Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Team Honorable Mention, and Second Team All-American by D2CCA. In 2022, Harris made 80 catches for 1,050 yards, 7 touchdowns, two carries for no yards, completed one pass for 15 yards, one touchdown, 32 kick returns for 716 yards, 10 punt returns for 66 yards, and four tackles (4 solos) in 11 games. His kick return yards (716) broke a program record.

THE CFL GAVE US ANOTHER SNEAK PEEK... at the nine team's negotiation lists with 10 players from each team's prospect group being unveiled on Friday. (
https://www.cfl.ca/2024/12/13/cfl-clubs-reveal-10-names-from-negotiation-lists-3/)
This is a critical component to every team's roster build and some of the players the Blue Bombers have had on this list in the past include current players Deatrick Nichols, Terrell Bonds, Michael Ayers, Kody Case and QB prospect Darren Grainger and, at one time, the team did have the CFL rights to QB Brock Purdy before he landed the starting gig with the San Francisco 49ers.
Here's a brief look at the 10 names on the Blue Bombers latest negotiation list reveal:
-Ian Book, QB, Notre Dame: Book has been on the team's list for a few years from his days with the Irish through his NFL journey that has taken him to New Orleans, Philadelphia, New England and, most recently, Kansas City. He was released by the Chiefs in late August.
-Haynes King QB, Georgia Tech: Made history in the Yellow Jackets epic 44-42 overtime loss to Georgia at the end of November by becoming the first player in FBS history to throw for 300 yards, rush for 100 yards and have three rushing TDs in a game against an AP Top 10 opponent.
King will be in action in the Birmingham Bowl on Friday, Dec. 27th, 2:30 p.m., against Vanderbilt.
-Diego Pavia, QB, Vanderbilt: Yes, check out the Birmingham Bowl as both pivots in that game have their CFL rights held by the Blue Bombers. Pavia threw for 17 touchdowns against just four picks this year for Vandy and was the Conference USA Player of the Year last season while at New Mexico State. He was recently named the SEC 'Newcomer of the Year.'
-Chase Atropeus, QB, Tennessee Chattanooga: Led his school to a 7-5 record in 2024, including throwing for two TDs and running for another in a win over Austin Peay in the regular-season finale in late November.
-Mark Gronowski, QB, South Dakota State: Another pivot who has been on the team's neg list for a long spell. Gronowski has helped lead the Jackrabbits to the last two FCS national championship titles and has SDSU poised to win another. They host Incarnate Word on Saturday in a national quarterfinal.
–LaJohntay Wester, WR, Colorado: Has posted sensational numbers this year with the Buffaloes, pulling in 70 passes for 880 yards and 10 TDs — second on the team to Heisman Trophy candidate Travis Hunter. Colorado meets BYU in the Alamo Bowl on December 28th.
-Eric Garror, DB, Louisiana: First team All-Sun Belt in 2022 and also served as a punt returner during his days with the Rajin' Cajuns. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2023 and then with the Seattle Seahawks this year. He was released in October.
–Tay Gowan, DB Central Florida: Former sixth-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals who has also had NFL looks from Philadelphia, Minnesota and Tennessee. He was among the Titans final cuts in August.
–Anderson Hardy, OL, Appalachian State: Released from the Miami Dolphins practice squad at the end of October. Has also had NFL stints with Pittsburgh and K.C. He played tackle at App State and some centre with the Chiefs and was projected as a guard coming out of college, where he was an All-Sun Belt selection.
-Malik Fisher, DL, Villanova: A 6-4, 265-pound end who starred at Villanova, where he earned First Team All-CAA in 2020, Second Team in 2021, and Third Team in 2019. He had seven sacks with the DC Defenders in the XFL, tied for second in the league, and was signed by the Houston Texans this summer before being released in September.

1st & 10 - A roster check-in as free agency looms
January 24, 2025 Ed Tait
The Canadian Football League free agent market opens in less than three weeks and while the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football operations department has already done some serious grunt work in re-signing some of their own, the true heavy lifting is just ahead on the horizon.
Just as a reminder, the official opening of free agency goes Tuesday, February 11th at 11 a.m. and is preceded by the communication window which runs February 2-9 — a frenetic week which allows teams to step up conversations with pending free agents and make formal offers if they wish with the contracts then registered with the league — to give players and clubs a truer lay of the land before the market opens two days later.
Now, the Blue Bombers 2024 season not only came with an abrupt and disappointing conclusion, but it also did so with a list of 27 pending free agents heading into the winter. Since then, nine players have agreed to terms in offensive linemen Stanley Bryant and Pat Neufeld, defensive linemen Willie Jefferson and Jake Thomas, linebackers Tony Jones, Shayne Gauthier and Kyrie Wilson, defensive backs Evan Holm and Jamal Parker, Jr. and kicker Sergio Castillo.
As well, the club scooped up veteran receiver Dillon Mitchell following his release by the Edmonton Elks, while watching receiver Ontaria Wilson sign a deal with the New York Jets.
"It's a waiting game now but we're reaching crunch time on a lot of things," said Blue Bombers GM Kyle Walters. "There's a bunch of irons in the fire and you've got to be ready to quickly pivot to something else and go from there."
Still, that leaves the Blue Bombers list of pending free agents at 18 and some pressing questions as the negotiating window and free agency approaches. Of those 18, 14 started at least one game last year and the list features All-CFL cornerback Tyrell Ford, West Division all-star guard Liam Dobson, a future hall of famer in linebacker Adam Bighill, two veteran receivers in Dalton Schoen and Kenny Lawler, long-time safety Brandon Alexander, popular No. 2 quarterback Chris Streveler and leading kick returner Lucky Whitehead. Just as a reminder — and undoubtedly a talking point in any discussions — Bighill, Schoen and Streveler are all coming off season-ending injuries suffered at various stages last season.
UPDATE: make that list of pending free agents now 17 after Bighill posted a thank-you and farewell to the Blue Bombers on Instagram Friday night:
And just to be clear as to how this unfolded from a club perspective, head coach Mike O'Shea told Bighill in early December he would not be receiving a new contract offer from the club. Bighill represents himself and GM Kyle Walters said they spoke not long after the player's meeting with O'Shea to confirm the news.
"These are always difficult discussions, especially for a player of Adam's stature," said Walters. "This is the business part of the game and after we spoke I thanked him and we talked about plans moving forward — would he be released, was he free to call other teams — and I wished him the best of luck in trying to land another contract."
With all this in mind, our latest edition of 1st & 10 looks at the current state of the Blue Bombers roster — those under contract, the pending free agents, the new faces and a burning question for each position group (*Indicates Canadian; (G) Global player):
QUARTERBACK
Signed: Zach Collaros, Terry Wilson, Jake Dolegala
CFL vets added: none yet
New: Darren Grainger
Pending free agents: Chris Streveler
Burning question(s): The three pivots who suited up for the Grey Cup are all back in Collaros, Wilson and Dolegala. Question is, with other teams in the West bulking up at the position — Edmonton committed to Tre Ford and then traded McLeod Bethel-Thompson to Montreal for Cody Fajardo, Saskatchewan inked former Calgary starter Jake Maier for depth behind Trevor Harris while Calgary traded for Vernon Adams, Jr. and signed NFL journeyman P.J. Walker — are the Blue Bombers comfortable rolling with the quartet under contract or looking to add another vet, prospect, or both, before camp? And is there a potential place for Streveler, who blew his knee out in the Banjo Bowl?
RUNNING BACK/FULLBACK
Signed: Brady Oliveira*, Michael Chris-Ike*
CFL vets added: none
New: none
Pending free agents: Johnny Augustine*, Bailey Feltmate*,
Burning question: The Blue Bombers signed Oliveira to a two-year contract just before free agency last season, giving the club stability at the position with the two-time CFL rushing champion and reigning Most Outstanding Player. Chris-Ike is more of a fullback and Augustine — who has provided Canadian depth behind both Oliveira and Andrew Harris since 2018 — is now 31. Does the club look to the draft to find homegrown depth here or grab an American?
RECEIVER
Signed: Nic Demski*, Drew Wolitarsky*, Kevens Clercius*, Keric Wheatfall, Myron Mitchell, Ontaria Wilson (signed with New York Jets)
CFL vets added: Dillon Mitchell
New: D'Marcus Adams, Bryson Daughtry, AK Gassama*, Jaylen Hall, Keilahn Harris,
Pending free agents: Dalton Schoen, Kenny Lawler, Lucky Whitehead
Burning question: The constraints of the salary cap would suggest the Blue Bombers might have to choose between one of Schoen or Lawler but, as GM Kyle Walters told media during CFL meetings earlier this month, the same thinking was prevalent last year with Schoen and Oliveira about to hit the market and both ended up staying. Schoen's productivity over his first two seasons – 141 catches for 2,663 yards and 26 TDs in just 34 games – was astonishing, but he suited up for just three games last year before his knee injury. Lawler is a dominant game-changer but also missed 14 games over the last two years due to suspension and last year's broken arm. While landing both would be a tasty option, is that kind of investment in one position group the right move given potential needs elsewhere on the roster?
OFFENSIVE LINE
Signed: Stanley Bryant, Pat Neufeld*, Chris Kolankowski*, Kendall Randolph, Gabe Wallace*, Tui Eli*, Micah Vanterpool
CFL vets added: none yet
New: Antonio Garcia, Chris Walker
Pending free agents: Liam Dobson*, Eric Lofton
Burning question: Canadian O-linemen are always in high demand on the open market, so Dobson's camp will be fielding a ton of calls if he gets to next week's negotiating window. There are Canadian options available if he should leave in Wallace and Eli — plus a potential draft pick or two — but would the team consider going with three imports up front given Kendall Randolph started games at guard and tackle last year?
DEFENSIVE LINE
Signed: Willie Jefferson, Jake Thomas*, Cam Lawson*, Tanner Schmekel*, Jamal Woods, Devin Adams, Collin Kornelson*, Lucky Ogbevoen (G), Kyle Samson*,
CFL vets added: none yet
New: Brandon Wright
Pending free agents: TyJuan Garbutt, Celestin Haba, Miles Fox
Burning question: The Blue Bombers finished first in some important defensive statistical categories last year, including points allowed (19.9), net offence against (328.6) and passing yards against (234.8 ). Yet, the team was sixth best against the run and last in sacks.
So, does the team bulk up along the defensive front with a proven CFL vet to take some extra attention off Jefferson and give defensive coordinator Jordan Younger even more options schematically?
LINEBACKERS
Signed: Tony Jones, Michael Ayers, Tanner Cadwallader*, Shayne Gauthier*, Max Charbonneau*, Kyrie Wilson, Fabian Weitz (G)
CFL vets added: none yet
New: Jason Person, Marvin Pierre
Pending free agents: Adam Bighill, Brian Cole II
Burning question: The commitment to Jones after the season was telling and it impacted Bighill — who is coming off the injury and and is now 36. Cutting ties with a player who casts such a big shadow, both in the locker room and on the field, is never easy. The Blue Bombers have some solid linebacking options in Jones, Wilson — when healthy — and the up-and-coming Ayers. But do they go shopping for more help on the market in this position group?
DEFENSIVE BACKS
Signed: Redha Kramdi*, Deatrick Nichols, Evan Holm, Terrell Bonds, Michael Griffin II, Nick Hallett*, Marquise Bridges, Jake Kelly*, Jamal Parker, Jr.,
CFL vets added: none yet
New: Russell Dandy, Quandre Mosley, Patrick Rogers, Jordan Toles, Duron Lowe,
Pending free agents: Brandon Alexander, Tyrell Ford*, Noah Hallett*, Nick Taylor
Burning question: This is one of the most intriguing storylines to track in the next few weeks: if Ford doesn't land an NFL opportunity, can the Blue Bombers be a player in bidding war that will surely unfold for his services?
SPECIALISTS
Signed: PK Sergio Castillo, P Jamieson Sheahan (G), LS Ian Leroux*
Pending free agents: LS Mike Benson, returner Lucky Whitehead
Burning question: How much does last year's experience with Janarion Grant — letting him leave in free agency for Toronto and again be deadly in the return game — impact what the team might do this winter? Grant combined for 105 touches in the return game last year — 67 kickoffs, 41 punts — while Whitehead, added in early July, combined for 69 touches as the club searched for answers in that department.
Let's also remember this as crunch time approaches: a year ago the Blue Bombers got a ton done when the calendar flipped to February, locking up Schoen and Oliveira along with then pending free agents Alexander, Kolankowski, Thomas and Gauthier while adding Streveler.
So, buckle up, Bomber Nation, for the ride is just about to get interesting.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers release veteran receiver Drew Wolitarsky
By John Hodge -January 27, 2025
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released Canadian-American receiver Drew Wolitarsky.
The 29-year-old made 33 catches for 403 yards and one touchdown this past season, missing eight games due to injury. He started five games at field-side wide receiver and five games at boundary wide receiver.
"These decisions are always difficult and it's especially true with a player who has been with us for so long," said general manager Kyle Walters in a statement. "Drew has been a solid contributor for the team, was popular in the locker room and was instrumental in two Grey Cup championships, and for that the franchise is forever grateful."
Per sources, Wolitarsky was due a $12,000 offseason roster bonus on Feb. 1 as part of a deal that would have paid him around $110,000 in 2025.
The six-foot-one, 225-pound native of Santa Clarita, Calif. was selected in the 2017 CFL Supplemental Draft out of the University of Minnesota after qualifying for Canadian citizenship. Winnipeg forfeited a third-round pick in the 2018 CFL Draft to secure his rights.
"I found out this morning that I am being released from Winnipeg," said Wolitarsky on his Instagram page. "I'm still just trying to wrap my mind around that, to be honest with you. I'm having a hard time believing that. It's been so long in that place. To get that call was definitely heartbreaking for me."
In total, Wolitarsky made 227 receptions for 2,954 yards and 18 touchdowns over 96 career games, winning two Grey Cups.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers lose young QB Darren Grainger to retirement
By John Hodge -January 27, 2025
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have lost developmental quarterback Darren Grainger to retirement, the team confirmed to 3DownNation on Monday.
The six-foot-four, 225-pound passer had a brief stint with Winnipeg during training camp in 2024 and later joined the practice roster after Chris Streveler suffered a season-ending knee injury in September. The team released Grainger in October but signed him to a futures deal, which kicked in after the Blue Bombers lost the Grey Cup to Toronto.
The 24-year-old native of Conway, S.C. finished his collegiate career at Georgia State University, throwing for 6,779 yards, 57 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions and rushing for 2,130 yards and 19 scores over 38 games. He was twice named honourable mention All-Sun Belt with the Panthers.
Grainger started his collegiate career at Furman University, an FCS program located in Greenville, S.C. He threw for 1,403 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions with the Paladins and ran for 349 yards and five scores. In 2019, he was named to the Southern Conference's All-Freshman team.
The Blue Bombers now have only three quarterbacks under contract for 2025: veteran starter Zach Collaros, journeyman Jake Dolegala, and Terry Wilson, who threw one pass attempt as a rookie in 2024. Streveler remains a pending free agent.

Blue Bombers re-sign two-time All-CFL receiver Dalton Schoen
February 1, 2025
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with receiver Dalton Schoen. He was scheduled to become a free agent on February 11.
Schoen (6-1, 210; Kansas State; born: October 13, 1996, in Overland Park, KS) returns to the Blue Bombers for a fourth season in 2025. He was limited to just three games in 2024 after suffering a season-ending knee injury in a loss to the B.C. Lions. Over those two-plus contests, Schoen pulled in 14 passes for 159 yards.
His two seasons prior to 2024 were among the most prolific in Blue Bombers and Canadian Football League history. In 34 games over 2022-23, Schoen racked up 141 receptions for 2,663 yards and 26 touchdowns while being named a West Division and CFL All-Star in each season.
In 2023, Schoen had 71 receptions for 1,222 yards and 10 touchdowns, finishing third in the league in yardage, first in receiving touchdowns and third in second-down conversion catches with 30.
His rookie year of 2022 was sensational, as he led the league with 1,441 receiving yards on 70 receptions while tying for the league lead in touchdowns with 16. Those numbers helped him earn him the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie honours.
Schoen's 1,441 yards in 2022 was the seventh-highest total in club history (Milt Stegall holds the club record of 1,896, set in 2002) and set a team record for touchdowns by a first-year Blue Bomber.
Over 37 CFL games, all with the Blue Bombers, Schoen has 244 receptions for 2,822 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Schoen came to the Blue Bombers after first signing in the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020 and following looks from Kansas City and Washington.
Schoen was a walk-on at Kansas State, climbing up the depth chart to eventually start as a sophomore and become a key target over his final three years. He finished his college career ranked seventh in school history in yards per reception (17.05) and 15th in career receiving yards (1,569). He finished with 92 receptions for 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns over 34 games from 2017-2019.
He was a 2019 Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and a member of the First Team Academic All-Big 12 from 2017-19.

Canadian FB/LB Bailey Feltmate retires from CFL to pursue coaching, nursing
By John Hodge -February 4, 2025
Pending CFL free agent Bailey Feltmate has retired from professional football to accept a coaching position at Dalhousie University.
The six-foot-two, 240-pound native of Moncton, N.B., spent this past season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, recording one catch for five yards and eight special teams tackles over eight regular-season games, helping the team reach a fifth straight Grey Cup.
The 27-year-old was originally a second-round pick in the 2020 CFL Draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He spent three seasons with the team, making four defensive tackles and 35 special teams tackles over 43 regular-season games.
Feltmate will serve as the special teams coordinator with the Dalhousie Tigers this fall while also studying nursing at the school. The team competes in the Atlantic Football League (AFL) alongside the Holland College Hurricanes, University of New Brunswick Red Bombers, and Saint John Falcons. Dalhousie won last year's Moosehead Cup after going a perfect 6-0 in the regular season.
"I am thankful for every opportunity that Winnipeg and Hamilton have given me over the past four years! I have gained so much appreciation for this sport and the opportunities it presents itself with," wrote Feltmate in an exclusive statement to 3DownNation.
"Football will always be a part of my life and I will forever be grateful for the impact it has made on me not only as a football player but as a man. It has shaped me into the person I am today and I will take these lessons into the next chapter of life as a nurse and coach."
Feltmate played collegiately at Acadia University where he won two Loney Bowls and was twice named a second-team All-Canadian at linebacker.

Each CFL team's additions and subtractions in free agency
By John Hodge -February 4, 2025
The CFL's free agency negotiation window has been open for just over 48 hours, and more than 30 players have switched teams after agreeing to terms on new contracts.
These deals can't be officially ratified until free agency officially gets underway on Tuesday, Feb. 11, but we've taken the liberty of listing each team's signings, agreements, trades, releases, and expected losses thus far this offseason.
Please note that re-signings are not reflected below, nor are players who remain pending free agents. "N" denotes National players (ie. Canadians), "A" denotes American players, and "G" denotes Global players.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Acquired: LB Jonathan Jones (A), REC Dillon Mitchell (A), DL James Vaughters (A)
Agreed to terms: REC Gavin Cobb (N), DB Josh Hagerty (N), REC Reggie White Jr. (A)
Released or agreed to terms elsewhere: OL Liam Dobson (N), DB Tyrell Ford (N), DL TyJuan Garbutt (A), Celestin Haba (A), REC Kenny Lawler (A), REC Drew Wolitarsky (N)
The Blue Bombers got a headstart on free agency by scooping up three players who had been released elsewhere — Jones, Mitchell, and Vaughters, all of whom could be starters come Week 1. Cobb and Hagerty are nice Canadian depth pieces, though it's hard to overlook how much talent has left Bomberland. Lawler is arguably the league's best receiver, while Ford and Dobson are high-level Canadian starters.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with quarterback Chris Streveler.
Streveler (6-1, 216; South Dakota/Minnesota; born: January 6, 1995, in Naperville, IL.) returns for a fourth season with the club (2018-19; 2024-) after suiting up for 13 games last year before suffering a knee injury in the Banjo Bowl.
He made one start for an injured Zach Collaros in 2024, helping lead the club to a 25-16 victory over the RedBlacks and finished the year with 343 yards passing after completing 31 of 52 attempts, for one touchdown and one interception.
Streveler also rushed 87 times for 272 yards and 10 touchdowns, a total which led the Blue Bombers and tied for the league lead with Tommy Stephens.
Streveler first signed with the Blue Bombers on May 4th, 2018, and was the club's starter to open the season just a few weeks later following the sudden retirement of Darian Durant and an injury to Matt Nichols near the end of training camp.
That made him the first straight-from-college quarterback to start Week 1 for a CFL team since Anthony Calvillo with the Las Vegas Posse in 1994 and the first for the Blue Bombers since John Schneider in 1968. He threw for 11 touchdowns in his first season in Winnipeg while rushing for 10 more, making him the first Winnipeg QB since Matt Dunigan to hit double-digit touchdown totals through the air and along the ground.
During the 2019 championship run, he again stepped in for an injured Nichols and guided the club to a 3-5 record. His 726 yards rushing that year established a club record by a quarterback, eclipsing Ken Ploen's mark of 541, set in 1960.
Streveler started 12 games in 2018 and 2019 with the Blue Bombers, going 4-8 in those games. He threw for 2,698 yards with 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions during his days with the club and rushed for 1,167 yards and 22 touchdowns.
He then spent the next four years in the National Football League suiting up for nine regular season games and starting one during his days with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets. Streveler also spent brief stints with the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins.
Streveler began his college career at the University of Minnesota, playing both quarterback and receiver before transferring to the University of South Dakota. In his two seasons with the Coyotes, he threw for 6,081 yards and 54 touchdowns. In 2017, Streveler was named MVFC (Missouri Valley Football Conference) Offensive Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award as the most outstanding offensive player in the NCAA Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision.

CFL Free agency: Blue Bombers Day 1 Wrap
Feb 11 - Ed Tait
The doors to the Canadian Football League's annual free agent market swung open Tuesday with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers playing active shoppers while also seeing some of their roster looted by higher bidders.
The Blue Bombers addressed some needs, including adding six players in kick returner/running back Peyton Logan and stockpiling receivers Jerreth Sterns and Reggie White Jr., while bolstering their Canadian depth in defensive end Brock Gowanlock, receiver Gavin Cobb — both University of Manitoba products — along with defensive back Josh Hagerty.
At the same time, while not officially reported yet by their rivals, the club is expecting to have receiver Kenny Lawler and defensive end TyJuan Garbutt sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and cornerback Tyrell Ford with the Edmonton Elks. Confirmed reports already have seen the departures of guard Liam Dobson, linebacker Brian Cole and defensive tackle Miles Fox to the Tabbies and defensive end Celestin Haba to the Toronto Argonauts.
Long-snapper Mike Benson re-signed with the Blue Bombers on Tuesday while Brandon Alexander, Johnny Augustine, Noah Hallett, Nick Taylor and Lucky Whitehead have all hit the open market, as has Bailey Feltmate, who has reportedly retired.
The club also made official the release of future hall of fame linebacker Adam Bighill with this video salute:
Already this offseason the Blue Bombers had announced the signings of veteran defensive end James Vaughters (Calgary), linebacker Jonathan Jones (Toronto) and receiver Dillon Mitchell (Edmonton) while locking up offensive linemen Stanley Bryant, Pat Neufeld and Eric Lofton, linebackers Tony Jones, Kyrie Wilson and Shayne Gauthier Dalton Schoen, defensive linemen Willie Jefferson and Jake Thomas, defensive backs Evan Holm and Jamal Parker, Jr. and quarterback Chris Streveler.
The signing of Logan could be an under-the-radar addition as he gives the Blue Bombers a boost to their kick return game and backfield depth with Brady Oliveira. Just 26, Logan signed a two-year deal and last year in 14 games with the Calgary Stampeders rushed for 355 yards, added 121 receiving, led the red and white in both punt and kickoff returns with his 539 punt return yards and 13.5-yards per punt return both ranking third in the league.
"It's pretty cool. I'm really excited," said Logan in a conversation with bluebombers.com from Calgary Tuesday afternoon. "The people that reached out to me from Winnipeg really made me feel wanted. They said they wanted me; they kept in contact with me and that was important.
"I had some players reach out to me the past few days. I just wanted to know how the team works, how their system works. Watching from afar you see they've consistently been to championship games and overcome adversity. They always seem very disciplined, too. All that stuff really stands out."
Logan said he heard from Blue Bombers special teams coordinator Mike Miller and punter Jamieson Sheahan and received a text from Oliveira and said he wants to report to Winnipeg for rookie camp to hit the ground running when main camp opens in May.
"I don't mind going to new environments or adapting to new situations. I'm very adaptable. I'm not afraid of change," he said. "I'm a structure guy. I always say I carry myself like a soldier — you give me the gameplan, tell me what I have to do, tell me what I have to study and that's what I'll do.
"I try to be as versatile as I can... anything you need me to do, if you need returns, I can go be a returner. If you need me to be a running back for a few plays I can do that. If you need me to run down the field and make a tackle, I can do that. I'm fine with any of that."
Sterns and White Jr. will be part of a revamped Blue Bombers receiving corps with Lawler, Drew Wolitarsky (Hamilton) and Ontaria Wilson (New York Jets) all now in different uniforms and will join returning veterans Dalton Schoen, Nic Demski, Kevens Clercius and Keric Wheatfall.
Sterns finished 2024 with 39 catches for 492 yards and two touchdowns and in 23 games over two years with the Roughriders had 83 receptions for 941 yards and three touchdowns. White Jr., meanwhile, started to flash last year some of his form from 2022 — when he had 53 catches for 722 yards in 15 games before suffering a knee injury that cost him the entire 2023 season. In a dozen games a year ago for the Als he had 24 receptions for 355 yards and four TDs.
Cobb, Gowanlock and Hagerty give the Blue Bombers some younger Canadian depth on both sides of the ball and on special teams, with Cobb also a former Canada West All-Star as a returner during his days with the University of Manitoba Bisons.
Gowanlock was limited to just three games with Montreal last year due to injury but gives the Blue Bombers more homegrown D-line talent while Hagerty has 32 CFL games to his name with Toronto and Edmonton and is an excellent contributor on special teams.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign quarterback Shea Patterson
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with quarterback Shea Patterson.

He dressed for all 18 regular-season games and the Western Semi-Final and Western Final last year for the Roughriders, completing 131 of 217 passes (60.4 percent) for 1,655 yards and six touchdowns against five interceptions. Patterson was the first overall pick in the 2022 USFL Draft by the Michigan Panthers in 2022 and was later signed by the New Orleans Breakers. He then signed with Saskatchewan in February of 2023.
He split his college days between Ole Miss (2016-17) and Michigan (2018-19) and earned All-Big Team Third Team honours in both his seasons with the Wolverines and moved past Tom Brady into seventh place on the school's all-time passing-yardage list.
Patterson was also selected by the Texas Rangers in the 39thround of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign defensive back Javaris Davis
February 18, 2025 Michael Heilman

The Guardians released him on March 15, 2023. Next, the Arlington Renegades signed Davis on March 28, 2023. What the Winnipeg Blue Bombers top free agents got paid (& how they fit into the roster)
By John Hodge -February 19, 2025
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were highly active in free agency this year, adding 10 players from other CFL teams. Now that the dust has settled, it's time to take a look at how much the free-agent additions were paid, per sources, and how they'll fit into the depth chart.
This biggest addition — financially, at least — was defensive end James Vaughters, who received a $45,000 signing bonus on a deal worth $160,000 in hard money. The 31-year-old native of Chicago, Ill. made a little over $170,000 with the Calgary Stampeders last year when he recorded 32 defensive tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles over 18 regular-season games.
General manager Kyle Walters made it clear that the Blue Bombers are looking for more production opposite Willie Jefferson. He appears optimistic that Vaughters can refind his form from 2023 when he made five sacks and two forced fumbles over only six games before suffering a season-ending arm injury.
Dillon Mitchell was Winnipeg's second-highest-paid free-agent addition at $148,000 in hard money, including a $63,300 signing bonus. The University of Oregon product, who took the CFL by storm as a rookie with the Edmonton Elks in 2022 before two middling seasons in 2023 and 2024, also has an $8,000 bonus in his contract if he hits 2,000 receiving yards. Only three CFL players have ever reached that figure in a single season, so you have to admire the optimism.
Jonathan Jones received a $15,000 signing bonus to join the Blue Bombers on a contract worth $120,500 in hard money for 2025, which is significantly more than veteran Kyrie Wilson is set to make. As such, it seems fair to speculate that Jones is penciled in as the starter at weak-side linebacker, a spot he manned off and on over three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts.
Explosive playmaker Peyton Logan got a $10,000 signing bonus to come to Winnipeg on a deal worth $107,500 in hard money. The deal seems like a bargain considering the 26-year-old's versatility. Logan is among the CFL's best returners and should also play a significant role in Jason Hogan's new offence as a change-of-pace running back behind Brady Oliveira and a receiver in the slot.
Shea Patterson will earn $88,000 in hard money to serve a depth role at quarterback, plus playtime incentives. The 28-year-old went 2-4-1 as a starter with the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season, throwing for 1,655 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions, earning the team's only win over Winnipeg.
Winnipeg's two other receiver signings, Reggie White Jr. and Jerreth Sterns, will both make between $85,000 and $90,000 in hard money. These are bargain-rate contracts for players looking to reignite their CFL careers. White Jr. was once poised to break out with the Alouettes before suffering a devastating knee that caused him to miss the entire 2023 season, while Sterns was outshone over two years in a deep Saskatchewan receiver room.
The team's four Canadian depth signings — receiver Gavin Cobb, defensive lineman Brock Gowanlock, and defensive backs Josh Hagerty and Enock Makonzo — will all make between $80,000 and $85,000 in hard money plus incentives. None of the additions, two of whom played collegiately at the University of Manitoba, are expected to be day-one starters, but all four could be on the active roster come the first week of the regular season.
There's been speculation that Winnipeg, likely the CFL's most profitable team, could stuff contracts with marketing money to massage the salary cap. Due to a loophole in the collective bargaining agreement, teams are able to pay players an essentially unlimited amount of cash in marketing money, none of which counts against the salary cap.
Based on their recent signings, it's clear the Blue Bombers didn't do this. Jones has $8,000 of marketing money in his deal, Logan has $7,500, and Vaughters has $5,000, none of which are particularly significant sums. The king of CFL marketing money is still easily B.C. Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke, who will earn $200,000 off the salary cap in 2025.
With the Grey Cup set to be played in Winnipeg for the first time in a decade, many local fans were hoping the team would throw the salary cap out the window and spend like drunken sailors. For better or worse, that didn't happen. Had the team done so, it seems likely that Kenny Lawler, Liam Dobson, and Tyrell Ford would still be wearing blue and gold.
Let's examine how these new additions will fit into Winnipeg's depth chart. The outline below is obviously unofficial — there will be plenty more changes to the roster before training camp — but it is one interpretation of how things currently stand. This depth chart is based on sourcing, last year's depth charts, and historical precedent.
The receiving corps will miss Lawler's explosiveness but it's still a good group, especially with Dalton Schoen returning from an ACL tear that caused him to miss almost all of last season. Dobson will be missed at left guard and though Kendall Randolph, Tui Eli, and Gabe Wallace have all fared decently in spot duty, one would think the Blue Bombers will address the offensive line in April's draft.
Brady Oliveira remains the best running back in the CFL, while the depth behind Zach Collaros has arguably improved with the addition of Patterson and Terry Wilson entering his second CFL season. Chris Streveler is back as the likely No. 2 behind Collaros and may have a larger role in the offence under Hogan after not seeing much action outside of short-yardage in 2024.
One could argue that Winnipeg's defensive line and linebacking corps have improved from last year, depending on how well Vaughters and Jones fit into Jordan Younger's system. The secondary will miss Tyrell Ford at field-side cornerback, though the team still seems high on Jamal Parker after he missed all of last season due to injury.
Logan is a significant upgrade at returner, a spot that was a revolving door for most of last year. Winnipeg finished eighth in punt return average and kick return average in 2024 and it's likely that they'll improve in both categories in 2025.
Arguably the biggest drawback for the Blue Bombers this offseason is their ratio flexibility. The team consistently started eight Canadians — one more than the minimum requirement — almost all of last season and sometimes started as many as ten. Following the departures of Dobson and Ford, the team simply doesn't have that type of flexibility anymore, which could spell trouble if they're bitten by the injury bug.
This year's draft is considered pretty deep and the Blue Bombers will likely end up with four picks in the top 26 selections, giving them a good chance to round out their Canadian depth before training camp gets underway. Even with these additions, however, the team will no longer be the envy of the CFL when it comes to ratio flexibility.

1st & 10: Who's in/who's out and what it all means
March 7, 2025 Ed Tait
Welcome to the Canadian Football League's annual offseason lull — that period in between free agency in February and training camp and with the news cycle heating up again later this month via the national combine followed by the draft in April.
And it's here during that unofficial downshift in news where we thought we'd pitstop for a spell and revisit some of the key happenings which have unfolded for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers since last November's Grey Cup loss, a result which spoiled the club's fifth straight championship game appearance.
Long the picture of roster and front-office stability, the Blue Bombers have undergone more change this winter that at any point during this run which has seen the club post nine straight double-digit win seasons and win two titles. That has undoubtedly led to the tepid response from media outlets across the league as to what the team did in free agency, takes which seemed to focus more on the losses than key additions like Peyton Logan, James Vaughters, Jonathan Jones, Jerreth Sterns, Shea Patterson, Reggie White Jr. and Dillon Mitchell, among others.
Yet, even with all that change there is a sense within the walls of Bomberland that the club could not just tread water in 2025 but also be improved. As GM Kyle Walters said following the first few days of free agency, "Only time will tell, but I do like our roster."
To that end, let's spend this edition of 1st & 10 examining the impact of all the arrivals and departures while offering a bit of a refresher on some of the stuff previously posted on bluebombers.com...

It's a business, and sometimes that means good men get moved on from.
If he's fit and ready to play, he can catch on elsewhere. I am surprised Goveia or Pinball hasn't already signed him...
