Redblacks' All-CFL receiver Justin Hardy healthy for East Semi-Final
By 3Down Staff -November 1, 2024
The Ottawa Redblacks will have one of the CFL's top weapons back in the fold when they take to the field for the East Semi-Final.
After dipping in and out of the lineup the past three weeks with an ankle injury, veteran receiver Justin Hardy will return to the lineup with a full week of practice under his belt. The 32-year-old former NFLer is the second-leading receiver in the CFL and was recently named East Division All-CFL, having caught 97 passes for 1,343 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games.
In a corresponding move, American receiver Andre Miller has been made a healthy scratch and Canadian Daniel Oladejo has been returned to the practice squad.
On defence, the team is getting back rookie strong-side linebacker Bennett Williams after he sat out last week with a head injury. The Oregon product has stepped in admirably for injured all-star Adarius Pickett, recording 27 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, and a sack in 11 games.
Also returning this week are veteran Canadian defensive back Justin Howell and linebacker Lucas Cormier to provide depth. American defensive back Adrian Frye and rookie Canadian linebacker Dawson Pierre will be healthy scratches.
The Ottawa Redblacks (9-8-1) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (10-7) for the Eastern Semi-Final on Saturday, November 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT at BMO Field.

Former all-star receiver Damonte Coxie game-time decision for Argos in East Semi-Final
By 3Down Staff -November 1, 2024
The Toronto Argonauts are facing the possible loss of one of their biggest offensive weapons for the Eastern Semi-Final.
Receiver Damonte Coxie is listed as a game-time decision on the depth chart and his status is considered doubtful after missing the full week of practice with a knee injury. The 27-year-old has exceeded his production after being named an East Division all-star last season and is second on the team with 59 receptions for 860 yards and four touchdowns.
Coxie will be backed up by American Jake Herslow, who caught a touchdown in his Argos debut last week. Rookie Canadian first-round pick Kevin Mital is also on the roster, while star returner and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player finalist Janarion Grant can take reps at receiver after taking last week off.
The team's biggest change may come in the trenches, where reigning Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Dejon Allen is back at right tackle after nursing an arm injury. Left guard Dylan Giffen has also returned from a back injury, bumping Gregor MacKellar back to backup duty. This year's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman finalist Ryan Hunter will jump back in at left tackle, with John Bosse and George Moore returning to the practice roster after auditioning in the regular-season finale.
Canadian defensive end Robbie Smith will also be back this week after sitting out the finale for personal reasons. American defensive tackle Jordan Williams has been sent to the practice roster, while Canadian receiver Tommy Nield is a healthy scratch.
The Toronto Argonauts (10-7) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (9-8-1) for the Eastern Semi-Final on Saturday, November 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT at BMO Field.

Update;
Former all-star receiver Damonte Coxie ruled out for Argos in East Semi-Final
By 3Down Staff -November 1, 2024
The Toronto Argonauts have lost one of their biggest offensive weapons for the Eastern Semi-Final.
Receiver Damonte Coxie has been put on the one-game injured list after missing the full week of practice with a knee injury. The 27-year-old has exceeded his production after being named an East Division all-star last season and is second on the team with 59 receptions for 860 yards and four touchdowns.
American Jake Herslow, who caught a touchdown in his Argos debut last week, takes Coxie's place in the starting lineup. Rookie Canadian first-round pick Kevin Mital is also on the roster, while star returner and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player finalist Janarion Grant can take reps at receiver after taking last week off.

I wonder if Coxie wishes he didn't cut out the protective knee pads in his pants so he could wear the 'cool' pants that had the protection removed. I fail to understand why the league allows this to happen. Oh well he ll have time to think about this now he's sitting out
send Chad home...
not sure ottawa has the horses to get it done though
Hey, looks like this game is showing on TSN as well as CTV today? That's a first... they had said the CTV games would be "exclusive" didn't they?

playoffs are both
Game on!
Come on Dru show me the goods man!
chad is ROCKED
Clean hard hit
Kelly looking dazed and confused....could he choke again in the playoff game??
big baby Chad - staring down his o line group on the bench
ottawa makes a lot of self inflicted mistakes
is that on Bobby D?
Superb DL work on the Argo run game!
that's why you need to score TD's ottawa
i can see why the argos picked Polk over Sheed
Fumble!
Brutal duck from Brown.
looks like kelly woke up...we got a game
addison is the RB's best player
pains me to say it but chad kelly can be a very, very good QB
Tommy Condell never wins anything. Small ball BS only can take you so far.
Throw the ball down field OC!
great response by dru
very entertaining first half
neither team even tries to run the ball.
why try that squib kick???
wow.
so dumb ottawa
so many mistakes
Well, there's stupid and there's STUPID
plap - just put on a nice pair of dress shoes with that suit and call it a day.
more mistakes by the RB's.
clearly a hit to the head
RB D Still in the locker room?
double coverage and a perfect pass by kelly to Polk
Surprised it's still only 11 points. RBs hanging around?
Quote from: The Zipp on November 02, 2024, 07:08:52 PMpains me to say it but chad kelly can be a very, very good QB
Yes. The knock on Kelly was never about his physical skills. It's always been about what's going on between the ears.
RB D running out of gas?
Well, that's not good. LOL! Methinks Ottawa's goose is cooked.
over now i think
RB D collapses. That should be all she wrote.
ottawa O line is playing well.
.....or not
edit
how come our O line couldnt block ceresna and this Ottawa O line can?
crumb - weak sauce
argos d is for real but crumb didn't really look strong on those sneaks
still under review
looks in to me
RBs refuse to go away. Too bad their D is folding.
50 burger on bobby dyce
they will retain him but not sure they should
RB cooked turkey.
This sucks!

Never a good look in the playoffs. Not Dave is HC material. Real solid Winnipeg man but HC? I am not sure.
I know they were desperate but that Brown throw was beyond bad!
Barron Miles will be looking for new work IMO. Redblacks defence was bad all year. How do you win TOP by 17 minutes in the 1st half and give up 20 points?
I feel sorry for Brown but he played well expect for maybe that pic 6 at the end of the game.
Chad Kelly and the Argos. You don't deserve this success. Idiotic franchise.
Amos is injuried but might be ok
And that is why we kept Zach instead of Dru. Dru did great for a 1st year starter. But in the end he couldn't get it done. Not all his fault, but those 2 pick-6's are basically death in a playoff game.
Anyone who think we should have ditched Zach for Dru needs to be forced to watch this game Clockwork Orange-style for 12 hours straight!
P.S. I bet Dru does much better next playoffs.

So many were calling for Zachs head early on and singing the should have kept Brown blues. Agree about the picks and agree he will bounce back next year. A good QB that will be great one day, just not today.

TOR didn't esacpe unscathed. I think Amos is out the rest of the way. That's a blown knee that got kicked while planted. That'll hurt their 2ndary next week.
The big shocker for me is EITS taking Kelly out of the game for protocol?? Usually in playoffs they really let those slide. Kelly bounced up immediately and looked fine. Man, if they do this to Zach I'm gonna be livid.
Also: overturning the sneak TD. Wow. I've never seen that in a playoff game before! I guess evidence was good enough, but still! (I thought it was a TD live, but refs are being extra cautious calling these GL stands.)

BRUTAL! :( Totally ridiculous call just before halftime....Killam may be knocking on RedBlacks door after this fiasco.
East gonna be tuff to beat

You bet. Even OTT looked like they'd be tough to beat! (before implosion)

You're assuming Dru doesn't do better with us than he did with the Redblacks. Which I think is a big assumption.
You're also implying that Zach has played well this year. Which is...hard to argue.

Zach knows how to win the big game. See: last week. See: every playoff since 2019. (Yes, 2 GC losses, but how many post-season wins in the same span?)
Winning the big games usually boil down to experience. (For both the QBs and the coaches/coords.)

Not sure if that's an argument you can reasonably make given Zach's performances in play-offs.

Not sure how to read that. Elaborate. If you're saying he's lackluster... I'd say: doesn't matter, he wins. If Zach only needs 225Y to win, so be it. (Go listen to Nikki Lauda's philosophy.)

A) I would hope that the Injury Spotter (separate from the Command Centre) would remove any QB, including Collaros, if he took a blow to the head.
B) After Kelly's (post game) self diagnosis of a concussion in the 2023 playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if the Injury Spotter wasn't extra careful with him this year.

But they usually don't. I'm not sure it's ever happened in a playoff for a QB (maybe once?)? And there have been plenty of head hits.
One would hope they'd wait for "signs" instead of just saying "big head hit, take 'em out". They should require some woozy walking, KO on the field, wild eyes, etc.
It's a playoff. You have to be very careful before destroying a team's chances just because there's a head hit. TOR got lucky Arbuckle was "just good enough", and TOR had a strong run game to fall back on. Imagine if that was on a critical drive in the 4th? Yowzers.
If any head hit results in a yank, you can bet SSK will be gunning for Zach's head! 15Y be darned, it'll be worth it to them. Paging Mr. Brown...

LOL. Karma
Brown had a great game. He threw for 476 yards against a great Toronto defence. Collaros threw for 249 the last time we played them.
The Redblacks defence was the problem. Huge play after huge play against them.
Ottawa s secondary was horrible, did they make a play all game?!? They need to upgrade their back end to be more competitive next year.

There were several players removed by the spotter over the weekend. That included Kelly and a couple of others. All returned but did miss a series.

If Zach or any other QB got rocked like Kelly did they'd be out for a month of Sundays, he is one tough duck. I thought that sack should have earned a UR and a league fine, although it was clean it was done with excessive force and was delivered with the intent to take the QB out of the game IMO.

487 confirmed. A stat correction has been processed.
