Argonauts missing all-star OL Ryan Hunter vs. Redblacks due to 'personal reasons'
By 3Down Staff -September 6, 2024

The Toronto Argonauts will be without the services of all-star offensive lineman Ryan Hunter this week.

The 29-year-old will not be available to play this week due to undisclosed personal reasons but is expected to be back with the team soon. The outstanding left guard has started every game for Argos this season and was named a CFL all-star in 2023. He won a Grey Cup with the team after joining the organization in 2022, as well as a Super Bowl as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019.

Dylan Giffen will slot into the vacant spot at left guard this week. Veteran Landon Rice remains the sixth man, while rookie John Bosse will dress for the first time as insurance.

Toronto won't know until Saturday the status of two other potential absences, as halfback Dashaun Amos (shoulder) and receiver DaVaris Daniels (groin) have both been listed as game-time decisions. Amos has recorded 13 defensive tackles and four interceptions this season, while Daniels has 30 receptions for 323 yards and two touchdowns.

The team will sustain a couple of changes to the linebacking corps, as Isaac Darkangelo will draw into the lineup to start in the middle and bump Jonathan Jones into a rotational role. Quincy Mauger will also get the start at strong-side linebacker, as Robert Priest will be demoted to the practice roster after starting last week.

Defensive lineman Jordan Williams and Canadian receiver Tommy Nield will both dress this week in depth roles after recovering from injury. Fullback Brandon Calver (knee) and defensive tackle Woody Baron (back) have both been placed on the six-game injured list.

The Toronto Argonauts (6-5) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (7-3-1) on Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

Redblacks lose electric returner DeVonte Dedmon to six-game injured list
By 3Down Staff -September 6, 2024

The Ottawa Redblacks will be without their most electric weapon long-term, placing returner DeVonte Dedmon on the six-game injured list with a hand issue.

Through nine games this season, the 28-year-old speedster has fielded 26 kickoffs for 737 yards and a touchdown, returned 37 punts for 424 yards, and added a 73-yard missed field goal return. He also has one receiving touchdown in 2024.

Defensive back Brandin Dandridge is listed as the team's replacement returner, but will also start at boundary cornerback. Strong-side linebacker Adarius Pickett has also handled return duties in the past.

Khalan Laborn will make his first career start at running back following the release of Ryquell Armstead earlier this week. The former five-star recruit ran for 1,513 yards and 16 touchdowns in his final season at Marshall University and later spent time with the Edmonton Elks. He will be backed up by former Saskatchewan Roughrider Jamal Morrow, who was signed on Tuesday.

After a brief return to the lineup, top pass rusher Bryce Carter (adductor) is headed back to the six-game injured list, with Canadian Kene Onyeka stepping in to start. Rookie receiver Nick Mardner (elbow) is listed as a game-time decision and will be backed up by Daniel Oladejo, with Keaton Bruggeling going down to the practice squad. Defensive back Bennett Williams will dress for depth.

The Ottawa Redblacks (7-3-1) will host the Toronto Argonauts (6-5) on Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

2 interceptions by Kelly

Must have been concussed (self diagnosis) on the first hit he took.

Have to say having Kelly, Brown, Rourke in the league has made the cfl more exciting to watch this season So many have strong feelings esp on kelly and rourke

Webb-tastic!!!!!!!!!!  Interesting list of DB's with 2 or more pic 6's. Dick Thornton on that list. Not bad for a QB / DB 2 way player when passing was less common.

I'm enjoying watching Kelly stink out the joint. Also enjoying Brown playing well.

Is Dru Brown a legit MOP candidate?

If Kelly keeps playing the way he is, then the Argos may look to be another team trying to trade for VAJ.  A QB with a large contract that is under performing has a big target on his back.

IIRC, VAJ reduced his deal and must be under $400K in 2025. Kelly is closer to $650K-$700K.

I don't see him as a MOP candidate yet.

He has nice touch on his passes and he can RIP it when he needs to. I think he has some throws in his arsenal that many other QBs can only dream of.

Brown is the best passing Qb in the league bar none. He s not mop material ??(not sure why not!?!), if I had a football team, he's the guy I'd want as my Qb, young, tons and tons of upside and can chuck the football better than anyone else

Dinwiddie is a goof. If you have to carryon on the sideline, smash a headset etc in an attempt to fire your team  up then then you have serious issues with your leadership group

Still lots of season left but who else has stood out for MOP?

Keep in mind that MOP includes more than just choices at QB. He has had a very good year so far. I hope he is able to stay healthy and rack up at least a ESF. Redblacks probably won't finish 1st.

For the most part, it doesn't.

This might be the year though. Not too many QBs have played the majority of games.

If Castillo makes 2 more 60+, and kicks 7/7 in the GC and wins it in a walk-off... why not a PK for the first time?  :o  :o  :o

I know no one cares about this game, not even TOR or OTT, but 4Q2:41 Kelly's over-the-LoS illegal pass was NOT.  His rear foot was at least 6" behind the LoS when the ball came out.

I note this mainly because the league is very loose with calling this penalty, and like offsides, usually gives the player much leeway.  It's very hard to judge in realtime so they basically have to give them a wide berth or they'd call offside on nearly every play, even when it's not.  Same thing here.

I think it was a Cody past-the-LoS in SSK a few years ago that was at least 1-2 feet beyond the LoS that was unflagged, that we challenged and still lost.

I hoped command would have corrected this one, but they didn't.  Guess by this point they didn't care either!
