B.C. Lions lose LT Jarell Broxton to six-game injured list
By 3Down Staff -September 5, 2024
The B.C. Lions have lost a couple of key contributors to their offensive line ahead of Friday's matchup with the Montreal Alouettes.
Left tackle Jarell Broxton (knee) and left guard Tyler Packer (head) have both been placed on the six-game injured list. Broxton was the Lions' nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2023 and has started every game this season, while Packer is in his first season as a starter and has split time between centre and guard.
Rookie American Kory Woodruff will get his first career start at guard, while six-year veteran Canadian David Knevel will continue on at left tackle after stepping in during the first quarter of last week's victory. Canadian Andrew Peirson will dress as the sixth man.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Lions will have some key depth returning in the trenches. Global defensive tackle Tibo Debaillie and Canadian defensive end Josh Archibald are both back in the rotation after injury, though American Marcus Moore (ankle) has been placed on the six-game.
Versatile Canadian linebacker Isaiah Guzylak-Messam (hamstring) will also be out long-term, but rookie defensive back Cristophe Beaulieu will be back in the lineup. American Jackson Taylor will dress for added linebacker depth, while Canadian receiver Kieran Poissant and Global punter Carl Meyer have both been demoted to the practice roster.
The B.C. Lions (6-6) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (10-1) at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 6.

Alouettes place REC Austin Mack on six-game injured list
By 3Down Staff -September 5, 2024
The Montreal Alouettes have added star receiver Austin Mack to the six-game injured list after just one game back in the CFL.
Mack rejoined the team two weeks ago after being released by the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and posted three catches for 32 yards in his debut against the Edmonton Elks. He later signed a four-year extension with the club that will keep him in Montreal through 2028.
The Alouettes enjoyed a bye week over the Labour Day weekend and returned to practice on Monday. However, their highly-touted pass catcher was unable to finish the week of practice after going down with an ankle injury late on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old recorded 78 receptions for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns with the Alouettes in 2023. He was a key part of the team's championship run, making 13 catches for 185 yards and two touchdowns in the playoffs, including a 104-yard performance in the Grey Cup against Winnipeg.
Mack will be replaced in the lineup by Reggie White Jr., who has 16 receptions for 240 yards and four touchdowns in six games this year. American rookie Jose Barbon will also draw into the receiving corps, knocking Canadian Shedler Fervius into a depth role. Veteran national receiver Nate Behar (hamstring) will be a game-time decision.
On the other side of the ball, the team will regain some depth with the returns of Canadian linebackers Tyrell Richards and Frederic Chagnon. Former NFL starting cornerback Cre'Von LeBlanc is also back in a depth capacity.
In corresponding moves, Canadian defensive linemen Micah Roane and Anthony Federico, American linebacker K.D. Davis, and American offensive lineman Donny Ventrelli have all been moved to the practice roster.
The Montreal Alouettes (10-1) will host the B.C. Lions (6-6) at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 6.

Als move star WR Austin Mack to the six-game injured list
CFL.ca Staff
MONTREAL — Montreal Alouettes receiver Austin Mack has been placed on the team's six-game injured list, according to the team's official depth chart that was released on Thursday.
Mack, 27, dealt with an ankle injury on Wednesday, according to the Alouettes' injury report on Thursday. The team listed him as limited but available to play.
Mack made his return to the Alouettes' roster for the team's Week 12 win over the Edmonton Elks and had three catches for 32 yards. Mack had signed with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons in the off-season, on the heels of a very strong debut campaign in Montreal in 2023.
Mack had 78 catches for 1,154 yards in 2023, along with four touchdowns and was a featured piece of the Alouettes' squad that captured the 110th Grey Cup.
Mack joins a number of talented receivers on the team's injured list. Tyson Philpot, Kaion Julien-Grant and Tyler Snead are all currently on the six-game injured list.
Jose Barbon will draw in to replace Mack on the Als' depth chart for their game on Friday night against the BC Lions.

Another Als win here would do the Bombers a solid!
I guess no one cares about this game?
Must be those annoying horns! ::)
Comes or cares???? lol
Go Als!!!!!!!
I care! I hope they both lose! But we need East to win, so go Cody! Win the game and get beat up doing so.
MTL's R corps is weakened, BC's is full strength, however BC's has been sucking badly. Fantasy picks tough this week... hard to pick any BC guy (they all get even looks), and hard to pick MTL because it's a lot of new guys and whilst Alexander loved Rambo, Cody ignores him.
Lapo seems to of ditched the sleepy mono tone for a super duper voice undulation's.LOL
On the Montreal high?
Rourke looks sharp to start.
TOUCHDOWN BC
made it look easy peezy
Booo Als Boooo
Wake up
Wake up MTL!
Mackie is tonight's fantasy vulture! I wonder what that anytime TD paid out?!
I am already tired of hearing about Stanback's return to Montreal.
Maybe Rugamba can do more finger guns, maybe every series for -10!
Boy, teams have really switched to the dink & dunk game, eh?
Did betts knock a helmet off with his hands?
Great Zema punt!
TSN manages to completely miss the int.
Als short field now!
Another good punt. Als need another stop.
Stanback details 🤣
Blatant hold by als on bc 56 on short yds
Als OL Swiss fromage
Als stink on O
Touchdown BCSUX Boooo
Beyond-The-SMS Betts is making a huge impact. It's literally cheating by fielding a better team than would normally be afforded.
MTL doing MTL things with the picks. I predict 2 more if BC keeps up this mid pass plan.
But MTL needs to do something on O. They are severely underperforming. Maybe yank Cody? Why not? The dearth of Rs in MTL is really starting to hurt them.
Refs seem slightly inclined to help out Kid Kanada. Are they fist-bumping him still?
Betts is always way too pass-rush focused, so get Fletcher going in Betts gaps. I don't know why MTL is a pass-mostly team when they have a good RB and good hoggies.
Macinnes B.C. sure takes a beating game after game.
Yeah als need to speed things up. And run.
Something funny I have noticed this season
Players throwing hands up asking for a penalty, while a play is underway
Wow. Cody stinky. Is that 2 or 3 sacks now? Where's his "wheel out" escape move? He's just turtling now!
Put Alexander in for a series.
We cannot have BC win this game. Not only are my pickems at stake, but they will take 1st place away from us!
BC clearly has started to get serious after weeks of sucking badly, ever since the Victoria game. Poo... I liked them better when they were incompetent.

MTL thought with their record this would be a cakewalk. They started believing their own hype and smelling their own f*rts.
With new command guidelines this challenge will never be overturned.

Wow! I'll have to study the angles a little better once I get the computer to index the frames. I thought it was out but not clear in realtime. Anyone know the command official tonight?
Might the boo-ouiseaus come out soon at Moslon?
Put in Alexander!
What's the TOP? Like double for BC?

Cody got hot TOUCHDOWN ALS
Great challenge by Maas turns into td.
Nice, keep Cody in ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Works for me! Guess who has Spieker in fantasy... he's the only R left of the '23 champs, so Cody throws to his security blanket.
Now if MTL D can get 2 more picks they should be able to pull this off. Rourke seems to tail off in the 2nd H.
Quote from: markf on September 07, 2024, 12:51:22 AMGreat challenge by Maas turns into td.
Ya, I'm gonna study the heck out of that one! I'm not sure how they overturned that without freezeframe, and most of the angles sucked. There must be an angle I missed that makes it "clear and obvious". I would hate to be back in the world of "what on earth is command thinking?".
TSN was talking about touchdown celebrations, I agree the best one was the bobsledding by Calgary. Another one was in Winnipeg with taking out a magazine between the goal posts, but got a penalty for that. Does anyone remember who that Bomber player was?
Cody! Don't you understand, you don't have 4s back there today! Just horrendous from a WPG standpoint.
You don't set the tone for the whole half like that!! "Our tone is DEFEAT!"
Cody not good.
Als D feast
Rourke 2.0 throwing a lot of picks.
The right call
There we go. Livetime only on challenge. It was 100% DPI by 2023 standards. Not by the new standards.
At least it's now consistent.
Just need to go and figure out the fumble overturn.
Oh ya: cost me 6 fantasy points not getting that TD, sigh
Stanback absolute beast
HAHAHHAHHAHAHA
MTL just gave up the exact same Stanback TD that MTL Stanback got on us in the GC!!
AHHAHAHAHAHAHA

Wasn't it Keith stokes??
Anyone know what that pouch of stuff Stanback had there? Chased it with water.
B.C. mackie 34..... good block on that stanback td.
Also scored a td taking the snap.

the score could be a 50 burger by now without the bc turnovers. Doesn't help that this is the Fajardo of old.

Riderfans will probably be saying "roids". To them every RB except theirs is roided up. Which is ironic when you look at "Thor".
Stanback gets his revenge!
This game is rapidly getting out of hand. MTL still has no answer and Bad Cody showed up.
MTL D will be gassed.
BC is focusing on their heavy WR/RB and tiny weeny MTL DBs can't tackle them.
P.S. There was no whistle on that Rourke sack/fumble.

Stanback hardly looks raided up like their beloved Thor! The guy is a poster child for steroids
BC has figured out how to stop MTL's much vaunted hitch screens!
WPG take note for when we face them in the GC in a few months!!
What on earth is going on with MTL's OL? They have been hot garbage all night!! And AFAIK they have not had any changes the last couple of weeks? What is going on there?
The whole team looks asleep.
Mass looks extra annoyed tonight. Lol
Maas rolls the dice again, comes up boxcars again
Hahaha, Dom Davis. Watch MTL screw up 3 sneaks!
Why was Dom jogging like he had it in the bag?? He sprints he gets that TD
BC just looks better tonight.
Go MTL!! Now wake up and start playing with intensity to save us 2 points.

Quote from: GOLDMEMBER on September 07, 2024, 01:58:11 AMI don't think so. He didn't have the angle he was being outflanked.
Only because he was jogging the entire time! He thought he had it in the bag when no one had contain and a slowed it down to walk it in and taunt them. Check it out! If he's full sprinting the entire time he has an easy untouched TD.
Tehemas sack on Fajardo..if that was Zac, Zac would be out of the game
This may be the first great concrete example of whether "hovering over the sideline" balls are considered OOB or not!
I'll study later but I'm pretty sure MTL only touched the ball as it was already hovering over the rail.
Yup, 100% proof finally that a hovering-over-OOB ball is still in play!! Yay. Confirms what we figured out in the other thread.
Holy smokes, lay out for that ball! Dressler comes down with that ball. Pokey too.
Hope that doesn't cost the game.
Buck? Did you see that move? Lets do that with Streveler on a 2nd and short.

Quote from: Pete on September 07, 2024, 02:04:59 AMBuck? Did you see that move? Lets do that with Streveler on a 2nd and short.
Ya, but BC didn't "fall for it" as they had 2 DBs following him. If it worked, it would only be because it was the perfect just-in-front over-the-shoulder ball. Or if the receiver was Dressler.
I really wonder why almost no receivers dive any more in the CFL. There used to be so many! Is this no longer being coached in the US college system?
but theyd never expect it from strev and with a 2nd and 1 it would be a free play
MTL (and us!) needs a stop. Come on Thorpe, figure it out!! BC down an OL now. FB looks hurt too.
Where's Ento tonight? Haven't heard his name even once. He doesn't seem to be in the picture at all. Must not be throwing to his guy, probably Hollins.
Game over.
Well that was embarrassing.
Bring in Alexander, he can sling it 80Y in 2 plays.
That flea flicker whiff is going to cost them the game.
See how Rourke sprinted the whole way, unlike jogger Dom

Wow both corners hurt for BC, Peters back.

On the bright side, those stinking horns have been silenced!!

Thorpe's D completely hosed us in the GC. Ento and Dequoy are the best in the league and you can't throw against them. Notice how BC isn't throwing that way at all. BC sticking to a short/mid game to negate MTL's strengths.
BC OC doing a great job tonight.
BC is so weird. Half the games they look like the best in the league. Half the games they suck worse than HAM.
I really thought Beverette and Sankey would shut down BC's (usually non-existent) run game.
Isn't it amazing how WPG did so much better against BC's run than MTL is doing?
Well, BC showed Montreal is beatable, the Als didn't do us any favours, oh well, beat sask to keep a hold on first place

Ya, thanks a lot Maas. Loser MTL with basically a fully-healthy D and OL and QB corps and they lay this egg? Cody and the lack of receivers cost them. Alexander probably would have played better since most of the Rs are 2nd team guys.
I wonder if MTL feels like playing "kingmaker" by "trying lightly" in some games vs the W? I wonder who they'd rather face in the cup...
Als don't scare any quality teams!
They aren't as dominant as their record suggests, definitely beatable for sure

BC is getting better every game under Rourke, if the trend continues the Bombers would have a hard time beating them playing the way they have so far this season. Really need to see if they are capable of blowing a team out of the water.

Don't think Montreal has too much sway in who they will play in the Cup as in a different division. First have to MAKE it to the Cup to even worry about that anyway.
I guess they know the Bombers might have more motivation to beat them after blowing last year's game. We shall see what that last regular season game of the year brings. Montreal could be home and cooled so could be a nothing burger game for them. Rest up their starters if anyone has little knicks and bruises much like Bombers have done for a couple seasons now. I don't think the Bombers will have that luxury this year though. Maybe good in a way as then have to keep the pedal to the metal and roll into the playoffs on a roll! :)

I think I have heard this at least 4-5 times in the last couples years but never seems to happen. :)
Als are having the same problem as the Bombers earlier in the season. Their best receivers are all on the 6 game IR. Snead, Mack, Philpot and Julian-Grant. Two Canadian starting receivers which may have impacted their ratio.
Sure they still had Rambo but the receiving corps has been severely downgraded. A couple of other players on the 6 game including Matte and Stubblefield.
Lions played well in comparison but certainly didn't do us any favours. This makes today's game even more critical.
