It would be a treat to see the Redblacks lay a licking to the Lions.

Good luck Coach Dyce!

VA was showing full mobility at practice yesterday. He will not travel with the team to Ottawa.

Apparently he had a minor setback on the flight to Edmonton a couple of weeks ago - leg room issue.

BC Lions are targeting the Victoria game for Adams' return to the lineup.

Not sure it will matter. Rourke will play unless he's injured. Even if he's not playing well, he'll need the live action to get better. You don't pay a player that much and make him the back up.

Here's looking for another still rusty game and a Redblack victory.

Next year it's Rourke's team. This year, if he's struggling and VAJ is just sitting there....there will be pressure to make the move.

It would be a bit strange if V.A. was content to sit in Rourke's shadow, but he does come off a bit strange to me.  No way the Lions can continue to pay him $300k+ as a backup, I think the writing is on the wall. Sask. should act aggressively towards acquiring him during the off-season if they don't do well with Harris.

That was literally my point. Next year VAJ will be somewhere else.

This year, if Rourke is struggling and VAJ is healthy, there will be pressure to put VAJ in.

I'm not sure that will happen.  Not with the size of Rourke's contract.

Most likely scenario is Rourke starts to figure things out and it's all moot anyway.

But VAJ has been too good for them to sit there if they continue to stack loses and the QB play isn't up to snuff.

Lions lost 3 games in a row with Adams starting before Rourke arrived. He was less productive against the Bombers than Rourke after 3 practices.

B.C. Lions' DE Pete Robertson added to six-game injured list
By 3Down Staff -August 23, 2024

The B.C. Lions will be without one of their starting defensive ends for Saturday's clash with the Ottawa Redblacks.

Pete Robertson (foot) has been added to the six-game injured list. The 31-year-old, who is in his first season with the Lions, has made 17 defensive tackles and two sacks through 10 games. In 47 CFL appearances with Saskatchewan and B.C., he has notched 103 defensive tackles, 23 sacks, six forced fumbles, and an interception.

Rookie defensive tackle Jonah Tavai, who measures in at five-foot-10 and 283 pounds, is listed as Robertson's replacement off the edge, having recorded three tackles and a sack in three games. Marcus Moore will dress and start at defensive tackle after having been a healthy scratch last week, already boasting seven defensive tackles and two sacks in nine games.

The rest of the Lions roster remains unchanged as they look to break a four-game losing skid and Nathan Rourke looks to bounce back from an abysmal performance in his debut. The only tweak comes in the receiving corps, where Canadian big man Jevon Cottoy will get the start and American rookie Stanley Berryhill III will operate in a rotational capacity.

The B.C. Lions (5-5) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (6-2-1) on Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Redblacks' DE Bryce Carter ruled out vs. B.C. Lions
By 3Down Staff -August 23, 2024

The Ottawa Redblacks will be without one of the CFL's premiere pass rushers when they take on the B.C. Lions on Saturday night.

All-star Bryce Carter (shoulder) has been placed on the one-game injured list. Through nine games this season, the 26-year-old has recorded 17 defensive tackles and four sacks. In 18 appearances last year, he amassed 31 defensive tackles, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Canadian edge rusher Kene Onyeka will get the start in place of Carter, with fellow national Aidan John serving as the only backup end. In 46 career CFL games, Onyeka has recorded 45 defensive tackles, 38 special teams tackles, 11 sacks, and two forced fumbles. American defensive back Bennett Williams will dress to fill the vacant roster spot.

The only other major change for the Redblacks comes at quarterback, where Dru Brown will be back under centre following a one-week hiatus due to a foot injury. The five-foot-11, 191-pound pivot has thrown for 1,936 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions through eight games in his first season as a starter. His last full start came nearly a month ago in Ottawa's 33-6 dispatching of Calgary, in which Brown completed 30-of-37 passes for 325 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.

Fellow quarterback Tyrie Adams will be a healthy scratch to make room for Brown, with Jeremiah Masoli and Dustin Crum serving as backup and third-stringer respectively.

The Ottawa Redblacks (6-2-1) will host the B.C. Lions (5-5) on Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Brown is the future and the one that got the starters contract going forward. He has nothing to worry about from Masoli.

I think Masoli just wanted to get healthy and prove he could still play. I also expect he will retire next season and possibly be a coaching candidate if he's interested.

This is not to say that if Brown struggles a bit that Masoli won't get some series. He's capable of playing well and winning as both a starter and coming off the bench.

That's a nice depth position for the Redblacks to have.

Masoli showed he can still be a 1B QB in this league although one good game back is a small amount to prove much. I think he still wants to win a GC and that might keep him playing for a while. The Kevin Glenn showtime tour of the CFL! :)

Rourke looked .... Middle of the pack at best.  If he messes the bed again next week there could be some serious buyers remorse setting in.

Dru, on the other hand, is the real thing.  Hindsight would have been to give him Zach money and let Zach go.  Or not bring back Streveler and Schoen (nothing against Dalton but he's been injured for the better part of two seasons.

But best result for us.  I would have never imagined we'd be one point out of first heading into LDC.  Now the Esks need to lose.

OTT lighting seems a little better tonight.  Did the league listen?

I noticed a lot of camera aperture adjustments in live-time so maybe they are just fixing it with camera tricks instead of really fixing the actual lights?  The EZs still seem very dark, and shadows are still everywhere.

EDIT: I take it back!  The beginning was looking brighter because the sun was still up, doh!  OTT lighting still hot garbage!  FIX IT AMBROSIE!

Haha, ref #78 screwed up on the missed Ward FG in the 3rd!  He indicated a wide-kick instead of a dead ball!  Then the returner dances and gets tackled in EZ and back ref signals a single (say that 10 times fast).

The score-keeper wasn't impressed and never gave them the point, LOL.  At least someone knows the rules!

Admonishment for #78 incoming...

Ouch!  Acklin!  What a season for CFL injuries!  It's crazy.

I want to say one semi-related thing: Acklin didn't need to jump/hop.  Most players do.  But I noticed Schoen will often do everything he can to keep his feet.  If you keep your feet, the standard for ball retention and TD is far easier.  You leave your feet and you have the dreaded "survive the ground" requirement.

Not dissing on Acklin, who looks to be in big trouble, just pointing out something that always struck me as odd by Schoen.

I've never heard anyone say they don't like Acklin.  He's a well-liked player who would probably find a fit in any team.  Kind of a Denmark type player who isn't the best but can stick in the league a very long time and do some special things.  He looked like he was done for when HAM released him, but I think his best ball is being played in OTT.  Having slinger Dru really helps!  He's probably Dru's #1 or #2 read much of the time.

The middle mid zone sit is starting to get dangerous.  Especially climbing the ladder.  This isn't the first time this season we've seen some crazy nasty hits in that area and scheme.

When you get zone look you might want to be careful: throw to keep your receivers on the ground, not jumping.

Not everyone will get injured like Acklin, but some will; it's all just luck.

No. Standings now show Bombers in 2nd place 1 point behind the Riders. If that odd tie game had ended up as a loss for the Riders, there would be a 3 way tie.  I know that's what what if's are like but I found that interesting.

So many games for all teams ending being decided on the last play or last minute.

Today?  Nope, probably not going to win that one.  2023?  Almost certainly win it because early; twisting/grabbing; arm-barring.

No, the lighting was as bad as it always has been.

Speaking of Schoen - what is his status? Is he gone for the year? If so got to wonder if it is time to move on as he has pretty much been gone for the better part of two seasons.

Very happy for Dru. The guy is a class act all the way and is capitalizing on his chance to be the starting QB with his new team. Ottawa is a very dangerous team with Dru leading the charge. I can't see Ottawa ever allowing him to leave there as much as I'd love to see him in Blue and Gold one day.

Schoen is gone until next year.  I don't remember the thing, but I'm guessing ACL.

Problem is he was basically league-leading R for 2 years in a row... If we can make him feel like this is his home, he may make a great long-term franchise guy.  Think Stegall.  That could spell small discounts in future years.

Schoen's pretty tough.  I think he'll get over this unfortunate ligament thing and be stronger for it.  This is more a luck thing than an injury-prone thing.  Last season was a bit of a different story, but he wasn't gone nearly as long.

If you want to look at shedding under-productive players... gotta put Kenny in that discussion.  I don't think he's won any 50/50 balls in 2 seasons.

Like Techno said, Schoen is done for the year, but what do you mean he's been gone for two seasons?

I think he means the many games to end last season, then just showing up lame in the GC.  He's kind of been like Jeffcoat the last 2 seasons; maybe worse.
